What is the difference between an inline and offline chlorinator?
Reply
An inline chlorinator would be plumbed directly inline with the plumbing. For an existing pool, this would mean a section of pipe would need to be cut out to install the chlorinator. An offline chlorinator attaches to existing plumbing by chlorinator tubing (holes would be drilled into existing pipe to attach the tubing.)

2 questions: Do I need to bleed air out every time I add tablets? The first time I used it, I filled it with water to get air out as instructed, turned on pumped then noticed a small water leak coming from edge of glass... Is this OK? I shut pump off then drained water out resealed the lid and turned it back on. Water level never came up high enough to leak water.
Reply
It is always okay to bleed air from the system after opening equipment up. If there are leaks coming from any pieces of equipment then check the condition of parts surrounding the area as well as any seals and gaskets.

Does this take 3" chlorine tablets?

Jack- The POWERclean ULTRA In-Line Chlorinator w/ Clear Lid Model # 25280100 does take 3" Chlorine tablets.

What is the length of the chlorinator, will it take the place of a salt chlorinator?
Reply
Hi Michael, The POWERclean ULTRA In-Line Chlorinator with the unions is 12.05" from end to end. It depends on the salt cell that you have but there's a good chance that you have to re-plumb this chlorinator into the spot of your cell.

Do the 2'' unions come with it?
Reply
Hello Dac,Yes the 2" Unions do come with this chlorinator according to the parts list on the POWERclean ULTRA In-Line Chlorinator Installation PDF.

with this chlorinator, will I need to have a floating one in the pool and does it use all tablets at a time or one at a time and how?
Reply
With this chlorinator, you would use the appropriate number of tablets to keep your pool properly chlorinated. You will not need a floating chlorinator. The number of tablets you would need will depend on the number of gallons in your pool and the demand for chlorine in your pool.
Reply
Does this come in 1-1/2"
Reply
We do not currently have a 1.5" version of this chlorinator, but we do have a POWERclean Ultra Off-Line Chlorinator version.

What is the height of the PowerClean Ultra?
I currently have the Hayward CL200 installed under my pool deck so it cannot be much higher than my Hayward Chlorinator.

Hi Guv From the center of the inlet port to the top of the chlorinator measures 14.50" tall.

Our pool has a strong smell of chlorine in it and I have the setting to as low as it can go. Any suggestions.
Reply
What is the results of a chlorine test on your water? The strong smell could be from an excessive amount of chlorine added to the water or from chlorine bonding to bacteria, resulting in chloramines. Chloramines form when chlorine binds to the body waste swimmers bring into pool. Here is a great link on How To Remove The Chlorine Smell From Your Swimming Pool.

I have the Poweclean Ultra in line w/ clear glass lid, just over a year old. Pool water doesn't fill into unit to accept the tablets I've put in. There are no leaks anywhere. Should I fill the cartridge with water in attempt to prime it ?
thnks
Reply
Hi, Alex. The unit may be clogged from residual chlorine build up. You can try cleaning out the unit by pouring hot water down the chlorinator. Filling the cartridge with water will not resolve your issue.

After about 2 years of usage, the dial on my 25280-100 cannot be moved. The pool repairman who installed the unit said the chlorinator should be removed once a year and the dial assembly cleaned to clear out chlorine residue. I removed the unit but was unable to take out the dial assembly. The handle on the assembly is solid plastic with no apparent way to get it off. It is unlike the diagram that came with the unit, which shows a knockout plug and a screw holding the handle to the unit.
Reply
Hello Jim- Unfortunately I would have to refer you to the manufacturer C-M-P because the only information I can find on this model is the unit that has the knockout plug and screw. I would suggest giving them a call at 800-733-9060.

I noticed water is not coming into the chlorinator. I made sure valve is open on the side. I took the site glass off and turned the pump on and there is a little water that does come out. I did notice the little oring is almost gone on the internal part of the site glass. Put back together and turned pump on still not water entering chlorinator. Any suggestions?

the Clear Glass Lid has become obscure to the point is is difficult to see the tablet at the bottom.
what is the best way to clean the glass lid?

Henry, Since the discoloration is from chlorine gas, there is not much you can do to clean it.

I have the Power Clean Ultra in-line chlorinator. The scale or numbers on the dial that regulates the amount of chlorine flow has worn away from the sun and heat. I'm having trouble remembering which direction to turn the dial for increasing or decreasing the amount of chlorine.

Hi, Krista. Turn the knob to the left will increase and the right will decrease the chlorine output.

My pool shows low chlorine and my dial does not turn is there a trick to make it turn
Reply
Hi, Earl. There is no trick, you just turn the know to increase or decrease the chlorine output. If the knob is stuck you may have to take it apart to see what is wrong or replace the knob.

I have no instruction manual can i get it online some where

Hi, Earl. You can download the PowerClean Ultra Owners Manual.

Hi, Pam. You will turn the knob to the Left (Decrease), Right (Increase) to adjust the chlorine level.

I see this has a pressure limitation of 35 PSI. Will the POWERclean Ultra work with the Pentair 1 1/2 HP pump (sticker information CHII-N1-1 1/2A 1-16-G03 / 34-6206) and B2982 motor?
Reply
Hi. Jim. If your filter pressure when clean does not exceed 35 PSI, then you're ok.
Reply
Dose this chlorinator come with a check valve and a clear lid? What size pipe reducers?
Reply
This chlorinator comes with an internal check valve and a clear lid. 2" unions are included with the chlorinator so if you have 2" pipe no reducers are needed. If you have 1.5" pipe then you will need to purchase two 1.5" x 2" reducer bushings, or if you have 2.5" pipe then you will need to purchase two 2.5" x 2" reducer bushings.

Hi, Jay. The variable speed option is P/N 25280-150-000 - Powerclean Ultra VS In-Line Chlorinator, Clear Glass Lid.

Hi. Can this be used with a variable speed pool pump?
Reply
Yes, you can use a VS pump with this chlorinator. You just want to be sure that you set up the pump to have adequate flow through the chlorinator in order to dissolve the tablets.
Reply
The sticker is wore off and I can’t remember which way is high and which way is low. Please help.
Reply
Hi. Turning the Knob Clockwise increases and counterclockwise decreases the chlorine output.
Reply
The knob will not turn and I am afraid if I use too much force it will break off?. It does not need to be pushed in or pulled out to turn ?
Reply
The UltraClean uses a simple twist knob; there is no catch or locking mechanism to release before adjusting the output.
Reply
All my chlorine tablets keep dissolving but I am getting absolutely no reading of any chlorine in my water. What could be wrong?
Reply
If more water is flowing into the feeder, that increases the level of chlorine in the pool, correct? That's assuming that tabs are in the feeder, of course. I think the label on our dial is backwards. It suggests that clockwise (counterclockwise) turns decrease (increase) chlorine output. Your comments and the instructions suggest otherwise. Thanks!

The lid you must the clear plastic version that will in fact cloud over after time, there is a clear glass lid option available as a complete unit part # _25280-400-000 that should prevent the lid from becoming foggy or cloudy. Yes, more flow increases the chlorine output. It IS a clockwise adjustment to open the control valve. There is also a model for variable speed pumps if that is what you have.

You say in one of the answers the p/n for powerclean with glasslid is 25280-400-000. Thwen the answer goes on to say there is another p/n for variable spped pumps. That is what I have and need to replace the chlroinator. All I need is the top oring, but that is 20 bucks for another 70 bucks i will just buy the whole thing

Hi, Angie. The end with 0 decreases and the chlorine output.

what is the red and white gauge on the side used for? Is it something that needs to be cleaned out periodically?
Reply
Hello, this is a flow meter, and yes I would recommend periodically rinsing it out but it should not get too dirty over time.
Reply
does it have built-in backflow preventor or check valve to protect pool heater from backflow water?
Reply
Hi, Paul. These chlorinators do not have the feature built-in. A Check Valve will have to purchased and installed.
Reply
What should the dial on the chlorinator be set on for winter service?
Reply
Hello, it would depend if you are running the pool during winter or doing a full winter shut down. If you are running during the winter you would need to adjust as needed depending on the chlorine demand of the water.

My pump is 2 HP pump with 84 GPM flow rate. Can I use this chlorinator?.

Hello Mike. The Custom Molded Products POWERclean ULTRA In-Line Chlorinator model 25280100 is compatible with the specifications described. The manufacturer recommends this chlorinator not be installed in circulation systems in which the pressure exceeds 35PSI.

My PowerClean Ultra has worked great for about 4 years. In the past week, I noticed the tube that holds 3" tablets fills all the way to the top with water when it normally is only about 4 inches filled with water. Wearing a mask, I removed the pucks and poured hot water into the tube over the grate and the water bubbles and flows out so I believe I have gotten rid of any residual chlorine grit and grime in the chlorinator. Any ideas of why this is happening and how to resolve it?
Reply
Hi Eddie, our best guess is that there might be an issue with the PowerClean Max Chlorinator Check Valve - 25280000920. Be sure it is clean and free of debris and the seals and gaskets have a light coating of lubricant on them. They can degrade over time.
Reply
Hi Rich, how easy is it to remove the check valve assembly at the bottom of the chlorine puck tube? Does it actually just twist off and come off as one piece with the white ball and gasket and seal (so 4 individual pieces as part of the assembly) or is there something more involved? I don't want to break anything or mess up my chlorinator.
Reply
Unfortunately, we do not have a resource to fully answer your question. When reviewing the schematic there is a part directly under the PowerClean Max Chlorinator Check Valve - 25280-000-920 it appears that piece lifts out of the body of the chlorinator and the check valve has a lock tab to connect to it. The check valve is assembled to replace it, I attached another image of the check valve from underneath. I hope this helps.
