Product Disclaimer:
*Please Note: Some pools can expect less cooling if they have pebble (light or dark), quartz, tile, or dark plaster finishes due to the added heat load by these finishes from the sun. If your pool has a pebble finish (any color), quartz, tile, or any dark colored plaster bottom and your pool volume is close to the gallon limits above, you should go up one size when choosing your unit.

Can I install my self? What is the refrigerant? Must it be replenished?
Reply
Yes, anyone can install the pool cooler themselves. In the bottom basis in the box is the installation ,operation manual with diagram and parts list. You can go to a local hardware store and get the proper installation parts. There is no refrigeration, no freon or gas to operate. Electric 110 Volt 60 Hertz 8 Amps fan does the work. This unit hooks up with the pool pump breaker. The home breaker powering the pool pump and pool cooler must be 20 Amps or above.
Reply
Does the Glacier pool cooler have a thermostat? If not how do you regulate temperature?
Reply
The GPC does not come with a temperature control. In most cases an owner will run their cooler at night along with their pool's cycle. An owner may find that running the pool a longer or shorter amount of time will give them their optimal temperature.
Reply
What size breaker does this unit require and what is the running amp draw?
Reply
The cooler piggy backs off the pool pumps power, so the combined amperage will require a 20 amp breaker. The cooler maxes at around 8 amps (when it is initially turned on) and averages 4 amps while it is running.
Reply
Is this an evaporative cooler - or does it just cool water by running at night with lower temperatures? How does it work?
Reply
Yes, this system is based on evaporative cooling. The manufacture has modified the technology to accommodate the swimming pool industry. The pool water is circulated through the system while a fan cools the droplets and removes the heat from the water instantly. The water is then pumped back into the pool lines and circulated back into the pool.
Reply
Our summer temperatures average 98-103. Our pool is extremely warm. How much of a drop in water temperature can we expect? Does the unit have to run continually to be effective and finally, what type of operating costs can be attributed to this unit?
Reply
The pool cooler will drop the pool 10 to 15 degrees. The operating costs are around a dollar a night on running the cooler 10 hours. It does not have to run continually, just run it at night when the sun is off the pool and it will perform and drop this pool down and be refreshing.

Pros: Price, low operating costs.
Cons: Installation was not simple
In Wilmington N.C. we have a 17,0000 gal. pool with PebbleTech. In mid-June the water was 90 degrees by 4 p.m. Now, with the Glacier Chiller, in late July the water stays between 80 and 82. Installation was about $900 because the chiller was integrated with Pentair remote system. Would recommend the Glacier Chiller to anyone looking for a relatively economical answer to tepid pool water. The Glacier Chiller is great!!!

The pool cooler exceeded my expectations! I live in North Carolina and have a beautiful dark bottom pool in full sun. When we have 90 degree weather the pool water would hit 90 degrees during July & August and not be usable. I have had the pool cooler for a month now and when we have had back to back 90 degree days the water stays at 78 degrees when I run it 12 hours a day. This is the best purchase I have made in years! Love it!

Pros: Cools water, easy install, quality product, good customer service reps if you have questions
Cons: Have to switch off/on bc not on timer
Wonderful. Amazing product. This does for your pool what your ice chest does for beer. Our pool is in direct sun all day and the water temp would be in the mid to high 90's. The pool chiller will keep the pool temp in the mid 80's if you let it run more than 6 hrs a day. We try to keep our pool around 89 so the chiller runs about 4 hrs per day during the hot summer months. Building a new home and pool and buying our third chiller. Excellent product. Easy to maintain. Takes 5 minutes to drain if you winterize. Very easy to install. My husband has installed all of them. Very basic and easy to follow instructions.

Pros: Works as advertised. Low initial cost and operating cost when compared to heat pumps with cooling cycles. Solid construction. Clear installation instructions
Cons: Some spatter and additional water loss due to cooling method and evaporation, not significant enough to be bothersome.
After my second summer in south Florida and with an inground pool hovering in the mid 90's from early July I broke down and ordered this unit. I've done the Pvc fountains in the outlets etc. but the cooling just never got it cold enough to carry through the day. I ordered the unit and some valves and actuators that would allow me to tie it in with my existing Aqualink system from a control perspective in order to maintain sanity when the spa and gas heater is used vs just the pool circulation and cooling. Ididthe install myself and the whole exercise took me around five days which included pouring an additional slab next to the existing one to accomodate the expanded footprint. The pool temperature on a 14k gallon salt water pool dropped the first night running from 8pm to 6 am from 94.9 down to 86.9. The second night it dropped further to 83.5. I ended up swithcing the unit off for the last two nights - the kids complained the pool was getting too cold. Our daytime temperatures have been hovering in the low to mid 90's with humidity around 90%+. overnight temps have been in the upper 70's to low 80's. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

In the summer my pool gets to 92+ degrees. Basically, from the middle of June to October, the pool was unusable. I did a lot of research and decided on the Inyo cooler. In one night it drops the temp five degrees and a few more the following night. I run it a few nights before the weekend and the pool is refreshing when it hits 100 during the day. I was a little skepical when I bought it but now can fully recommend this unit. CALL THEM AND GET A RECOMMENDATION AS TO PLUMBERS IN YOUR AREA FOR INSTALLATION!!!

We live in northern Indiana and our pool water usually doesn't go over 90 degrees until late August...not this year; we had water that was 94 degrees mid-June! Purchasing this pool cooler was the best investment. We no longer have an 11,000 gallon bathtub! Even with the air temperature in the 70's at night, the water is cooled to 82. REFRESHING! Installation was a breeze as well.

(5 out of 5 stars) It simply works, period
Reviewed By: Mack A. from Oklahoma City, OK ()
Pros: easily integrated into my pool systems
We had a record hot 2011 summer here in Oklahoma. When I needed my pool most, the water was 95 degrees. Ugh! I bought and installed the Glacier. It simply worked exactly as advertised. Cooled the pool down to 85 degrees in one night. We took it down to a perfect 82 the next. We were easily able to keep our pool exactly where we wanted the rest of the summer, no matter how hot the days and nights. We enjoyed our pool through the final 30 days of 100+ degree heat. If you live in an area where you have hot days and nights and your pool gets too warm when you need it most, you need this device.

Pros: 14 Deg Temp Drop, Quiet
Cons: Large Footprint, Splash out at the base
Let me first start by saying I have NEVER left a product review, EVER. Purchased the Glacier Pool Cooler, 20K Gallon unit and installed it myself. I live in Houston and our high temp has been 100 Deg F plus for the past 15 days. I have a 13,000 gallon pool that gets sun from 9am to 6:30 pm, I have a blue based pebble finish and my water temp was 91 deg in the morning and 95 deg in the hottest part of the day. I completed the install about 3pm on Saturday and adjusted the flow as described in the instructions and allowed the unit to run all afternoon and night. The next morning my water temp was 86 deg, nice but not what I was looking for. So I allowed the unit to continue to run all night, this morning my water temp was 81 deg at the surface!! That is VERY refreshing when it is 100 plus outside. The unit is very large, the 20K gallon unit is about 36" round and it does have some splash out at the bottom, but I knew that when I bought it. If you have a large bathtub in your yard, get this cooler IT WORKS!

(4 out of 5 stars) Very Good Pool Chiller
Reviewed By: John P. from Missouri City, TX ()
This pool cooler chills the water in my pool by about 4 to 5 degrees on very humid days. On drier days (rare in SE Texas summers), it can do much better. But even the 4 - 5 degrees make a big difference in pool comfort when the un-cooled water temps are 93 or 94 degrees. Installation was straightforward but time-consuming given the layout of my existing pool equipment and piping. Getting the wand speed optimized took a few tries and the Inyo and Glacier customer support groups were very helpful in this. One warning -- even though the brochure from Glacier recommends against over-sizing the unit, consider selecting the next larger cooler if your pool is near the upper size limit for a given unit. My pool is about 22,000 gallons and I wish I had installed the GPC210 instead of the GPC25. I would get better and faster cooling with the larger unit. Talk to Glacier customer support before selecting your chiller.

Pros: Cheaper to operate than a heat pump, much cheaper unit cost than a heat pump.
Cons: Higher water loss from the pool, no safety switch to turn of the pool pump if the sump pump goes out.
I installed this myself three weeks ago, it works very well; we run it for 9 hours during the coolest part of the night. With 100+ degree weather for months now, this unit has kept our pool cooled down to 83 degrees in the morning up to around 87 in the afternoon. My pool is a 3'-5'-4' depth pool, in full sun all day - we are amazed. Before, our pool water was getting up to body temperature in the afternoon. My only concern is that there is no safety swith to turn off the pool pump in case something ever happens with the sump pump in the unit. The fan is a little noisy, but not too bad.

Pros: Cools the pool as expected, great price, helpful plumbing instructions
Cons: Some additional noise (due to fan and pump on the unit), slight water splatter around cooler, electrical instructions not very thorough, cooler taller than expected (5' 2" instead of 52")
After considering the Glacier pool cooler for some time, I finally purchased one. Wish I had invested in this years ago! Our swimming pool is in full sun and typically was 95+ degrees in July and August. Running 12 hours a day, the cooler has lowered the water temperature to 88-90 degrees even in a high humidity environment (Gulf Coast). What a difference on a 100-degree summer day! Refreshing. Decided to install it myself even though I'm not all that handy but definitely adventurous. With help from family, installation took two days (planning, site prep, digging, piping/plumbing, electrical, and multiple trips to Home Depot). Most competitive price and good delivery from InyoPools. Also purchased check valves and ball valves from InyoPools and would recommend.

Before I bought the cooler my water was 93 degrees, now it stays between 81 and 84 degrees. I was scared that the water was going to be too hot for this past 4th of July but it ended up almost being too cold for some people.. I love it. Best investment. It would be a major waste of money to have a hot pool that you wont swim in.

Pros: Great cooler, low electricty usage
Cons: noisy
We ordered this pool cooler after we could not use our pool in June of '09 due to the dry, hot, early summer here in Louisiana. My husband and his brother (they are both pretty handy) installed the cooler in one afternoon. It cooled the pool down to a comfortable temp. in less than one 24 hour period. In 48 hours it was a very enjoyable cool temp. We were concerned about our electric bill going up with the use of the cooler but we saw very little increase in our bill, it's about like running a box fan, that was a pleasant surprise.
