I am looking for a replacement motor for my pool pump but all the ratings listed on the label are confusing me. What are the important stats on a motor label I should look for to ensure I'm getting the correct motor?

The key points on a label to know to ensure the proper motor selection are the Model number, Part number or Catalog number. If a match of one of these numbers is found, that match is the drop-in replacement for your motor. We also provide a guide on >How to Read a Pool Motor Label

Is this the same as st 1102?

Unfortunately, the PL1102 is not the same total HP as the ST1102. The PL1102 would be the equivalent to the UST1102.

I have a Hayward Super Pump, Model #C48K2N143B1. Which replacement motor do you recommend? I wouldn't mind have a dual speed with a timer if you have a motor that will fit my pump. Thanks

The correct replacement motor is the A.O. Smith 1 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor - UST1102. If you are looking for a dual speed alternative, I would recommend the 1 HP Full Rate Two Speed Motor W/ Timer - Round Flange (B975T,B2975T). Whenever you change out a motor, we recommend you replace the seals and the GOKIT3 will include all the o-rings and seals for the Hayward Super Pump.

I have a 1 1/2 hp Hayward Super Pump model # C48K2N143B1 which this pump is supposed to replace but this is only 1 hp. Is this the correct replacement motor?

Hello John- I would definitely verify the motor number and specification information on the label and compare it against the UST1152  1.5HP Motor. The models of this motor include C48K2N134B1 (slightly different than N143B1). You would also want to compare the impeller sizing to ensure it is sized for a 1.5HP motor and not a 1HP motor. Here is a link to the Hayward Super Pump parts page. Don't forget the Tune Up Kit!!

When attaching the impeller to the motor shaft, how do you hold the end of the shaft to tighten it on this model?

At the rear end of the motor where the shaft comes out you can hold it steady with a small wrench so that you can unscrew or tighten the impeller.

Seized motor

Written on 3/22/2020 by Guest

Hello All,
Replacing the motor is a must to save money over buying a new pump all together. It is fairly easy for the mechanically savvy.

Turn off the power! Remove the back cover and disconnect the power leads. ***If you are not comfortable working with electricity, then STOP now! You should have an electrician or pool repair company do this repair!

There are 4 bolts on the motor mount that will need to be removed to release the motor from the pump housing. Then you can remove the motor from housing. You will need a 7/16 on the motor shaft on one end and then unscrew the impeller off the other end. You will then find that there are 4 more bolts holding the motor mount to the face of the motor.

I had to soak my bolts in PB Blaster overnight they were stuck pretty good. Once I was able to remove them, I used anti-seize paste when I reinstalled them into the new motor.

The one trick is making sure to install a new shaft seal, or you will have a leaky pump. Take care not to touch that with your dirty fingers. I use the paper that comes in the box to press the seal in place.

Everything goes back together in reverse order of taking apart :) wink. Further, there are lots of Youtube videos that you can watch for a more detail step by step.

Motor stopped running I ordered a motor from your company

So I ordered 1hp flange 56J up rate motor. Took out old motor. I replaced It with the 1hp 56J. This motor is much longer than the one I took out but I accomplished The task and it’s working fine.

Hayward R+R

So a 3 year lifespan on Hayward Super Pump. Pool company says just run it till it gives up the ghost. Bad idea, the old pump got so hot it melted the plastic into wet end. The PL pump was a direct replacement and actually easier to transfer into the Hayward. 7/16 wrench and the wiring was so easy for 220v there are two terminals for two wires + ground you really cant screw this up! Estimated savings about 350 from having pros handle. That buys a lot of chlorine/bromine for my pool!

Bad bearings in pump motor and seals were leaking.

Written on 6/14/2017 by Guest

Ordered replacement motor and saltwater seal kit. Motor arrived three days later by UPS. Seal kit arrived in 4 days by USPS. Don't understand why it took that long for an envelope!! Would suggest UPS for Both items.

Installed seals and pump motor in a couple hours with no issues. Reinstalled entire pump and all seems to be working fine. Good service from INYO.
