My pool contractor is starting to dig tomorrow and I'd like to get him to install a couple of these speakers in my 20'x40' free form pool. How many speakers should I have ideally? The pool will have a gray marbelite bottom, are there covers available for the speakers to match?

We spoke with Clark Synthesis and they recommend 2 speakers. Clark Synthesis stated you should place a speaker every 20' X 20' square section of the pool. You may purchase the speakers through this link http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00100001005502.htm and you may purchase the in wall installation kit through this link http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00137648035518.htm the in wall installation kit kit comes with a stainless steel face plate cover, niche and all parts to install the speaker into the niche. You may view the installation guide through this link http://www.inyopools.com/owners_manual/aquasonic.pdf

What is the rated power of the speaker in watts in air? Any boat mount accessories? Could this be used to heard fish?
Reply
The Aquasonic is rated at 135 watts at 4 ohms. The speaker does not produce much sound in air and should not be used as an air speaker. We do not provide any boat mount accessories. While the Aquasonic can reproduce sounds in the range of hearing for many fish (30 Hz to 4 kHz), and the Aquasonic is used in some underwater animal training programs, we are not aware of anyone using the Aquasonic to affect the behavior of fish.

What is the maximum depth for this speaker?
Reply
The manufacture tests the pool speakers down to 10 feet. However, recommend that they only be used down a few feet, which is the standard depth for a light niche. The manufacture will not warranty anything below 10 feet.

Can you hook an I-Pod up to this speaker?
Reply
We spoke with the manufacture of the AquaSonic speaker and they stated that you would plug your I-Pod into an amplifier and then the amplifier is wired to the speaker. The needed amplifier for the AquaSonic speaker is a 125 - 150 Watt into 4 Ohm.

I live overseas and am interested in purchasing this speaker but our electrical is 240V 50 Hz, will this speaker work overseas?
Reply
The speaker is simply a speaker. AC Power requirements only apply to the amplifier. We recommend that you use an amplifier that delivers 125 to 150 watts into 4 Ohms.

I'm an oceanographer looking for an underwater speaker that I can hang over the side of a ship and transmit acoustic signals. What is the maximum working depth (or pressure) for your AQ339 Aquatic Pool Speaker?
Reply
The manufacturer does not recommend using the AQ339 speaker in ocean water as it isn't designed for salt water use and is only sound tested to a depth of 10 feet. We do carry Lubell underwater speakers and their LL916C 180dB Professional Underwater Speaker can be used in ocean water.

Can this speaker be used in a pool with a salt chlorine generator?
Reply
According to the manufacturer, the AQ339 Aquasonic underwater speaker is designed to work in a salt water pool. They said that due to the low level of salt used (3000 PPM) there is no problem using this speaker.

Can it be used in a chlorinated pool?

Yes , this can be used in a chlorinated pool. I took this from the description itself : This underwater speakers has been use for aquatic therapy, swim-in-place exercise pools, major luxury resorts, the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, the Watsu Pool at the Mauna Lani Resort in Hawaii, for Dolphin Dance at Kelani Institute, Cirque du Soleil "O" at the Bellagio, synchro swim teams, marine biology studies, diver communications for the Navy, and at Sea World to train orcas.

I am building a lap pool. Dimensions are 12 x 67 feet long. How many speakers will be required? Thanks
Reply
How Many Speakers – The rule of thumb is one speaker for every 20’ x 20’ (or 400 square foot) section of pool. So for a 20’ x 40’ pool, you would use two underwater speakers. Some speakers have minimum and maximum depth ratings so be sure to consider this before installation.

Could this speaker be installed in a standard pentair nitch? And can it be used with a Sonos amp?
Reply
Hi David, The Aquasonic Underwater Speaker can be installed in the Pentair Large Niche and can be used with a Sonos Amp with the correct hardware to connect the amp to the speaker.
Reply
Do you need any kind of mounting kit or do these just mount right into the large pentair niche?
Reply
Hi Kyle, The In-Wall installation does require the Pentair large niche. The In-Wall Assembly Kit p/n AQ339KIT comes with everything needed for installation in a concrete pool and AQ339KITFV for Vinyl or Fiberglass pool.

Can the speaker be installed both vertically and horizontally?
In other words, can the coil vibrate both horizontally and vertically, producing the same result? Just asking because some speakers can only be placed horizontally.
Furthermore, can anyone add photos of his setup with everything from the speaker to the computer and everything between?
Thank you in advance.
