What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I purchased and received the motor above to replace a very loud motor with the description as follows:.
A.O. Smith, type :cx , Frame: Y56J, HP:1.5, SF 1.0, Volts: 230/115, Code: E,
model: 0-184982-23 Is not installed. Will it fit and work ok?

Hello Larry - The motor would fit. However, you would need to upgrade the impeller and possibly the diffuser. These parts would depend on the make and model of your pump.

Is there any advantage to upgrading from a ST 1202 to a ST 1252? And if so, do you have to change the impeller?
Reply
The ST1202 and UST1252 have the same total hp so you would not need to replace the impeller. There is no real advantage in changing the model.

I am ordering a ST1202 pump, and would like to order a new impeller as well. What is the model number for the appropriate impeller? Is there any way to get them shipped assembled?

I have two ST1202 pumps, both are models K48N2N, HP, 56J, 1.33, etc, except one is 11.2 Amp, and the other is 12.6-11.4 amp.
Question 1: my 11.2A pump is leaking very small of water at the hump on top of the pump, and it shuts off itself every hour or so. Do I need to replace the motor or just a seal somewhere?
Question 2: if I need to replace, would the 12.6-11.4 amp model work?
Thanks
Reply
Hi Josh, Yes, I would recommend that you replace the motor and the seal within the pump and the ST1202 Motor with the Max Load Amps of 12.6-11.4 will work.

My old AO Smith pool motor burned out model # K48M2N110 at 1.5 HP, can I replace upgrade to the ST1202, 2HP unit? And if so, is this the correct impeller to upgrade to? Sp3021-c
Reply
If your current pump is a Hayward Super 2 then yes, that is the correct impeller to upgrade with the ST1202. That is fine to do that as long as your filter is able to handle the increased flow rate.

I currently have a Century ST 1202 Model Num. K48N2N106C1 motor that runs an irrigation pump. I had one that lasted 10 years then the next one lasted 2 years. the one I have now burned the winding's in 3 weeks. Is there a more heavy duty motor I can upgrade to?

Marty, Based on the specs of the ST1202, the comparable motors will not be as "heavy duty" as what you have now. I would recommend staying with the ST1202.

I have an AO Smith 2hp model K48N2N104 used with a Hayward housing. It's rated at 230V with a max load of 11.2 V. Is this the best model for replacement?
Reply
This is the direct replacement motor. Some people prefer a dual speed or variable speed but "best" is merely a preference. You can use the dual speed motor model STS1202 and would need a timer being part number T106R or you can use variable speed model ECM16CU. The more you use lower rpm settings then the more energy efficient they become.

I have the Jacuzzi Magnum Force 2MF-S2 Pump - EST1202. Is this the replacement motor for that pump? The only reason I ask is because the Starter Capacitor is in the back cover - my existing (original) does not have the hump on the top of the motor. Also - I believe the EST1202 is 230V - Can I just hook this one up right out of the box, or do I have to re-wire?
Thanks
