What is the difference between ST1202 and UST1202 other than the price.
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/13/2014 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The ST1202 is a full rated motor with a total HP of 2.6 and the UST1202 is an up-rated motor with a total HP of 2.2.

Is the UST1202 the replacement motor for my 2HP Hayward Super II pump? My motor does not have that external bump. Does that make a difference?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/26/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Hello Doyle - The UST1202 is the correct motor if the service factor (SF) of your current motor is 1.1. This rating can be found on the motor label. The external bump is a run capacitor. All of the new 2HP motors have this capacitor.

How do I change rotation on the UST1202?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/2/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Hello Sal - The rotation of the UST1202 can not be changed. It will only run counterclockwise when looking at the impeller.

Do you know how many gallons per minute is the capacity of this motor? Thanks,

We would need the model of the rest of the pump in order to get the gpm rating.

Hello: I currently have a Hayward Super II pump, with a 1 1/2 HP motor, I would like to upgrade to a 2HP motor. The pump model is SP3010X15AZ. Will this 2HP motor work properly? Thank you

A  Answered on 5/11/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Frank, This would be the correct motor if you would like to upgrade to 2 HP but you will also need to upgrade to a 2 HP Hayward Super II Impeller as well as upgrading to a 2 HP Hayward Super II Diffuser.

Capacitor in the motor blew out, took motor to repair shop and was informed they would fix it for $500; but a new motor with Inyo was $325

Written on 7/17/2023 by Guest

The repair/ replacement videos on the Inyo site were valuable and gave my husband the confidence that he could replace the motor- he watched these videos numerous times and now our pump is running smoothly

in ground pool pump stopped working

Written on 9/20/2022 by Guest

1. turned off power to pump 2. unbolted and removed pump from filter pot 3. de-energized capaciter by shorting it out 4. unwired pumped 5. removed mounting brackets and water mover parts from old pump needed for new pump 6. cleaned mounting brackets and water mover of debris 7. added mounting brackets and water mover to new pump 8. added new wire connecters due to corrosion 9. wired pump 10. added petroleum sealant to filter pot seal 11. mounted new pump to filter pot 12. re-energized pump 14. primed filter pot with garden hose 15. turned on pump; The local pool supply was wanting to charge me $900 dollars to change out pump. It cost me around $300 for the new pump and $10 for the sealant and wire connectors. I watched an instructional video on how to change out pump. It was the best $600 I did not spend. Watch video first to make sure you have everything you need before you start. Only small issue I had was I had to get my cordless impact out to remove mounting bracket from old pump, bolts were on there really tight and I did not want to risk snapping a bolt head off using a socket.

Pump motor

Written on 7/18/2022 by Guest

Having fifty years of pump and motor experience did not help me with this repair. However, my good friend did. I spend winters in Naples, FL. Guess when the pump started to fail. In June 2020. I knew what the problem was but was not there to fix it. With a new motor and seal (tune up) kit from INYO, I was able to walk my friend through the repair. He took delivery of the parts. I had him watch a video and talked to him on a video chat. What made the whole thing possible is that the parts were correct. No screw up and pump is running fine. The only snag was that the impeller was really stuck hard on the shaft so I had my buddy buy a strap wrench, which he used and promptly returned to the store (he's frugal).

Instead of paying $1,000 for a pool company to replace and install a new motor, I purchased this motor from INYO and saved over $700 doing in myself.

Blown Motor thanks to storm/power Surge

Written on 9/24/2020 by Guest

Nothing terribly complicated as I replaced the entire unit. Killed power, disconnected old and then reattached new.

Easy-peasy but saved myself literally hundreds of dollars buying from Inyo and doing myself versus leaving to my pool company.

Hayward SuperPump 2.0 HP was dying

Written on 7/24/2020 by Guest

This motor is a perfect replacement for my pump that was equipped w/ dual-speed unit. Unless you need it, I would avoid the more expensive motors.

After removing power, then wiring to old pump, 4 bolts will remove the motor from the pump. Make sure everything comes out with the motor. On my old motor, inserting a Phillips into the impeller and turning the motor shaft makes easy removal of the impeller. Make sure you order a new seal and I would recommend a new gasket for the diffuser.

The pump plate will bolt to the front of the motor, then the seal is installed and finally the impeller. I had a touch of trouble holding the motor shaft to tighten the impeller. Reassemble with the diffuser mounted to the front of the motor and slide the assembly in place. There is a provided rubber cushion to take up the space at the rear of the motor as it is slightly smaller than the original.

Bolt it all together, then wire it. On a 220/230 connection, you have three leads normally. 2 hot leads and a ground, the hots go to L1 and L2, the ground connects to the ground on the motor frame. Once in place, you will also need to bond the outside motor ground to earth.

You should have an earth ground on the previous pump that you removed. If you do not have an earth ground, I highly suggest that you add one. A 6 foot metal shaft can be driven into the earth and then the motor ground can be connected. If something ever happens to short out the motor, you do not want to electrify the pool water and the earth ground will provide a path for the electrical energy.

Had to replace a defective motor

Written on 9/5/2018 by Guest

I cut the power to the motor and then disconnected the wires, I then unbolted the flange from the pump and removed the motor. I unbolted the plastic flange from the motor and also removed the impeller. I replaced the seal on the impeller and the housing flange. I then reversed the process and reinstalled the assembly.
