Can you replace single speed pump motor with dual speed pump motor?
Reply
Yes but you can't go with a higher HP than the single speed motor. For example if you have a 1 HP single speed you cannot go with a 1.5 HP dual speed motor; you would be able to use a 1 HP dual speed motor. Customer would need to purchase a toggle switch or timer to switch from high speed to low speed.

What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Can you direct me to the proper hi low switch for this motor?
Reply
Unfortunately the manufacturer does not offer the switch for the 2 speed 220v motors any longer. If you already have a 220 volt timer (on/off) you would need an Intermatic T106R to switch from high to low speed. If you do not have a timer currently you would need the T10604R which is a 220v on/off timer and a high/low timer.

How can I tell whether or not my motor is a dual or single speed?
Reply
Most dual speed motors will have a toggle switch that will allow you to adjust the motor speed to either high or low. Another way to tell if your motor is dual speed is by looking at the RPM's on the motor specifications label. If there are two RPM's listed such as: 1725/3450 then motor is dual speed. If there is only one RPM, then motor is single speed.

I have a Jandy Plus HP pump with the overheating cheap replacement motor. I want to replace this motor but I don't have the exact model on the pump or the original motor. I was told I have to take the pump apart and find out which impeller is in it. Will there be an obvious part number on the impeller if I do this? The original pump was installed in 2010 and was 1 1/2HP 2-spd. This cheap motor is 1 HP 2-spd and shuts off on high speed and doesn't provide flow for the salt gen on low speed.
Reply
Hi Lauren, Yes when you remove the impeller there will be a part # embossed into the plastic of the impeller, once you get the part # then email us and we will let you know which model you have. I think I know the reason why your second motor burned up so quickly. When you went down from 1-1/2 HP to 1 HP if you did not down size your impeller to 1 HP then the 1 HP motor is going to be working too hard as it still has the 1-1/2 HP impeller. Basically the 1 HP motor is trying to do the work of a 1-1/2 HP motor. When you purchase the new motor make sure that the HP rating of the impeller matches that of the motor. We can help you figure this out once you supply the impeller part # information.

I have a Star rite pump with the SQ1102 motor that died 48Y flang but I want to up grade to a dual speed for the energy savings will this motor work?
Reply
Hi Eric, Yes this would be the proper replacement dual speed motor for your SQ1102. Please note that if you are using a standard yellow dial timer to turn your pump on and off then you will need to add this T106R Dual Speed Pool Pump Timer when upgrading to dual speed. Your current timer would power your pump on and off and the second timer would be programmed to switch between the high and low speeds. When you take into consideration the cost of the timer then you might consider this 1.65 HP Variable Speed Replacement Motor as you don't need to purchase a timer with this motor as it the controls are mounted directly to the motor. We wrote this Article on Is a Dual Speed Pump or Variable Speed Pump Right for me which you might find helpful.

Hello Dan. When replacing a motor it is recommended that the shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and diffuser O-ring be replaced as well. The GOKIT54 contains the necessary parts for a Sta-Rite DuraGlas. The GOKIT38 contains all the necessary parts for a Sta-Rite DuraGlas II. It was unclear which model you are repairing. Sta-Rite DuraGlas and DuraGlas II pumps are no longer manufactured/available in single or dual speed models. Attached please find information n the Pentair SuperFlo Variable Speed Pump which would be a suitable replacement. will this motor replace that in a Pentair Whisperflo dual speed 1.5 hp pump # wfds-26? It says 1.0 hp but in the specs it is rated 1.5/1/4 hp

Hello Mike. The Century Motors 1.0 Dual Speed Full Rate Motor SQS1102R is the correct replacement motor for the Pentair Whisperflo model WFDS-26. The total horsepower (THP) of the SQS1102R is identical to that of the Whisperflo WFDS-26 original motor. The secondary HP rating reflects the low speed (1725rpm) horsepower, also identical. It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and diffuser o-ring be replaced concurrent with the new motor. The GOKIT32 contains the necessary parts to complete this project. It says this motor does not come with the two speed switch. Would I just reuse the one from my old motor? Also are there two capacitors on this motor? I suspect it is the capacitor(s) but would like to check before buying a whole motor. There is the obvious one on top of the motor. Is there another internal as well?

I have a Sta Rite P6RA6YF206L pump that needs a new motor. Is the SQS1102R motor the core replacement? Also need the o-ring kit for the pump.
Hello S.D., the correct motor replacement for your original Sta Rite Max E Pro pump model P6RA6YF206L is the B2983. We also recommend replacing the seals and gaskets when replacing a pool pump motor. For your model it would be the GOKIT79 if manufactured/installed prior to 2015. If manufactured/installed after then the only different seal needed would be key number 6-A on this parts diagram.

Hello Jane, the correct replacement motor for your motor part number 193508 is the model B983. If you need a new two speed switch it will be listed in the motors d escription as well. When replacing a pool pump motor we also recommend replacing the seals and gaskets. For your pump model that will be the GOKIT32 in a standard chlorine swimming pool and for a saltwater pool it will be the GOKIT32SALT.
