I have a SP3200DR and the drive board has burnt out .After testing motor windings I found all OK but board . It burnt out at mains next to motor terminals . I'm trying to just order the board only can someone help out please?

Currently Hayward doesn't carry a replacement for just the circuit board. You will have to replace either the motor drive w/ Digital control interface SPX3400DR or just the Digital Control Interface Assembly SPX3400LCD

If I want to put on an Eco star sp3400 Hayward but can't afford a different filter right now can I just run the pump on the slowest couple settings until I can install a bigger filter? I have a sta rite posi flow 2 Ptm 70.

Hi Justin, Yes you could run the pump on the lower speeds until you got the larger filter.

What's the difference between VSP and the VSPVR besides the price and one goes down to 600 speed range?
Reply
EcoStar VSPVR has an integrated Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) that helps prevent suction entrapment without additional devices, plumbing or wiring. It meets or exceeds all relevant ASME/ANSI standards as required by the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act and similar state and local requirements.

Can you use the Hayward Navigator Pro with the Hayward EcoStar variable speed pump model Sp3400VSP.
Thanks

Yes, you can use any suction side cleaner with the EcoStar. The great thing is you will be able to dial in your RPM's to what is needed to keep your cleaner moving.

I'm having a new in ground pool build its 18000 gallons with a 6'6" high grotto water fall with (4) deck jets spouts and water slide, They are using a Hayward
SP3400VSPVR Eco Star pump for water features and a the same pump again for pool . They are using 2 1/2 on suction and 2" on discharge does pipe size sound correct for this pumps

Hey Rick, yes the piping and configuration of your pool would be fine for the Hayward ECOSTAR VS pump.

My pool is 10,000 gallons, I have measured the head length. From the skimmer it's 20ft to the pump, from the main drain it's 40ft but there are 2 drain openings about 18 in. apart not sure if I double that number. The pump that's in there right now is 1 1/2hp 2in.pipe.According to my cal.the replacement should be 1/2 or 3/4hp I want to replace it with a variable speed pump but I have only seen them in 1 1/2 hp and up. Would that be overkill?
Thanks Scott

It is going to depend on the flow rate your filter can handle. Running the Ecostar at 1725 RPM the flow rate will be 80 GPM. The Ecostar has a 2.7 HP motor which is going to be overkill, like you said. The Super Pump VS is a 1.5 HP which would be fine if you're filter can handle about 90 GPM.

what speed should I use when backwashing and rinsing?
Procedure for starting the filter if I wanted to run the filter after the timer shuts down.
Reply
After hitting the quick clean button you will run the unit at 3450 RPM's for the backwash cycles.

Hello. I have a 14,614 gallon pool with an attached spa with a 2’ waterfall, two skimmers, two floor returns, 80’ of 2” pipe as the crow flies to the spa and 60’ to the floor drains, a heater, and a Hayward C4025 filter that will take up to 150 gpm. Is the SP3400VSP just right or overkill and the SP3202VSP would be more appropriate? I have currently have a TriStar with a 2HP, two-speed motor that has gone bad after 5 years of 12 hour days in north Texas. Thanks.

How can I get the manual

Hi Larry. You can view or download the Hayward EcoStar Owners Manual.

I have a Hayward ECOSTAR pump. The drive (controller) has failed (2nd time) and I'd like to replace the 3-phase motor with a 2-speed motor and use a combination of a T106/T104 mechanical timer to control the 2 speed motor. Is there a motor I can use with the ECOSTAR wet end? I understand I may need a new impeller and other parts. I already have the timers and a sub-panel that delivers 240 Volts 1-phase power. Just trying to avoid replacing the wet end unless this is not economical.

Hi, Danny. You could use a dual speed motor, I will need to know what size dual speed motor you would like to use. To keep your existing Impeller and parts, you can use the SPX3220Z2MER - 2.5 HP 2-Speed 208/230 Volts Motor.

Hello, I have a 5 yr old SP3400VSP that has recently failed; upon start, motor makes a thud sound, momentarily vibrates/shudders then throws codes. What could be causing this? What would be the replacement motor if that were it? Thank you!
Reply
Hi, Dale. Please provide the error code so that I can let you know. The sounds could be from the motor or a broken pump part. If the motor is the issue, the replacement is Part # SPX3400Z1ECM.

Hi, my in-ground pool has Hayward Ecostar SP3400VSPVR pump. I'm getting SVRS tripped error message on the pump display. Pump is running but moving water at a very low rate. I checked and confirmed there is no blockage in suction lines from the pool drain and skimmers. Is it time to replace the pump? Could it be the control drive? Any suggestions to troubleshoot the issue?
Reply
Hello, Sounds like a drive issue. We would recommend changing the motor with the drive.

In many of the Hayward manuals, I read that "It is recommended that a minimum length of straight piping (shown as “L” in above diagram), equivalent to 5 pipe size diameters, be used between the pump suction inlet and any plumbing fittings (elbows, valves, etc.)." Why is that necessary and what are the consequences if the value is not adhered to"? Is the life of the pump shortened if it's less, and if so, why?
Reply
This is necessary because otherwise the water will create bubbles and cause cavitation which will cause the pump to wear out prematurely
Reply
And by bubbles you don't mean the kind of champagne type bubbles that appear in the pump's wet end as a result of an ozone generator?
Reply
Danny, Yes, the bubble could be of different size depending on the pump's horsepower and the amount of straight pipe it has.
Reply
That is correct. Having to many fittings before having a set length of pipe can cause turbulence

In the Hayward Owner's manual it states "fasten pump to base or pad with screws or bolts to further reduce vibration and stress on pipe or hose joints". Is this done in practice? What if it's not done?
None of the pumps I've had were screwed or bolted to the concrete pad. I tried to do it to my current pump and successfully drilled the hole in the 2 inch concrete slab, but could not drive the concrete screw due to an impossible angle.
Will look to see if I can strap the pump instead.

Hi, Dan. That type of installation is not done but is recommended especially larger pumps like this EcoStar Pump.
Reply
This is not necessary but with larger pumps is is "recommended"

I have a Hayward EcoStar Variable Speed pump SP3200DR that is giving out. I also have OmniLogic controls. Is the SPX3400Z1ECM an appropriate motor replacement? Is the TriStar W3SP3206VSP an appropriate replacement pump for the EcoStar SP3200DR with Omni Logic? If not can you recommend the correct motor and pump replacement. Thank you!

I would recommend the SPX3400Z1ECM as the replacement motor for the EcoStar. Here is a link to the complete parts breakdown for that pump Hayward EcoStar Pump SP3400VSP SeriesYou can use the TriStar Pump, but will probably need some rewiring. Here is what I found on wiring the TriStar to the OmniLogic. If it was me I would contact Hayward to make sure it is not difficult to rewire the Omnilogic to a Tristar."TriStar PumpCommunication wires should be run from 2 & 3 on the RS485 connection green block on the OmniLogic to A & B on the pump. Terminal 2 - A and Terminal 3 - B."

I have a Hayward SP3400VSP and want a replacement and see the SP3400VSP is not available. What is the replacement pump (requires no re-plumbing of inlet and outlet)?
Reply
Hello Bill. The Hayward 2.7 HP TriStar VS Pump, Inground Pool, Variable Speed, 230 Volt - W3SP3206VSP is the replacement variable-speed pump for the Hayward EcoStar SP3400VSP. Attached please find EcoStar product information. Hayward EcoStar Variable Speed Pump - SP3400VSP According to the dimension information for each pump, the inlet/outlet orientations differ by 0.04" (inlet) and 0.02" (outlet). This differential should not require plumbing alterations if the EcoStar was installed with unions. Minor plumbing alterations will be necessary is the EcoStar was installed with male adapters.
