How does the dual speed feature of this pump work?
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/15/2006 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Some dual speed pumps have a toggle switch in the back of the motor to change speeds manually, but many do not. Generally you would need to tie this dual speed pump into one of our dual speed pump timers/controllers. One of the more popular models is the Digital PE153 series. This timer has 3 functions: one to turn the pump on and off, a second auxiliary to switch from high speed to low speed, and then a thirdĀ for any other piece of pool equipment. You may view these controllers through the following link: Intermatic Timers

My pump works but after an hour of running the basket is only have full. What causes that to happen?

I would recommend inspecting any seals/gaskets on the suction side of the pump. You may have an air leak.

Will this pump accommodate salt water introduction without deterioration ?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/13/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes this pump can accomodate salt water at the levels of a traditional saltwater pool which is 3,000 - 4,000 PPM of salt, however the pump would not withstand ocean water which has a much higher concentration of salt more in the range of 50,000 PPM of salt.

can you tell me what water temperature these pumps can operate under

Tony, I've look through the Hayward Super Pump Owners manual and found nothing about water temperaure that the pump can operate under other than instructions for winterizing the pump.

Is it fine to run the pump on high speed for days at a time? Trying to clear up a cloudy pool.

A  Answered on 7/2/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R.

Yes, there is no problem with running a 2 speed motor at high speed for days at a time. It's no different than running a single speed pump at 3450 rpm.

is there a switch to change speeds?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/4/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

Hello Glen, the hayward SP2607X102S Dual speed pumps with "S" designation to include "Hi/Lo" switch.

The hi/lo switch got bumped real hard and broke off. Where can I buy a replacement. The old switch had the number 624964-001 stamped on it. Can I just hard wire the yellow and purple wires to get lo speed or the black and purple wires to get high speed? Does not sound real smart but will it work?

Hi Paul, We do not have just the switch but the complete End Cover Switch Assembly (1011431-001).

Does the model with the manual speed toggle switch have the Hi and Lo wiring terminals to allow me to control the speed from a separate 2 speed timer?
 Reply

A  Answered on 11/17/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, With the manual toggle switch you would not be able to wire the pump to a dual speed timer. You can only use one of the two options.

Are the threaded fittings standard pipe threads - i.e. can I just use store bought PVC Sched 40 pipe fittings or are the threads proprietary?

A  Answered on 11/11/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Charlie R.

Yes, the threads on the pump are a standard 1.5" you can pick up from a local store.

My motor is shutting down after 30 seconds of running and then turns itself back on in about 5 minutes. I assume that I am needing a new motor. My real question is that my pump is 16 years old so in yur opinion should I just replace the whole thing or just the motor?

If you pump housing is not crack and not leaking I would just replace the motor and all the seals. Hard to beat the durability of those older pump housings.

I have a Hayward 2607X102S, this has the high low speed toggle switch. Can I remove the switch and control the speed through a Intermatic T10604R? I need an automated control for the pump management.

Hi, Barry. Yes, you can bypass the toggle switch and wire the motor directly to the T10604R controller.

The high/low speed toggle is wired to the #2 & #3 lug on the motor terminal. The other wire runs likely to a motor tap on the winding or at least out of sight into the motor. What would be the proper connection to bypass the toggle switch and run it on the Intetmatic T10604R? Not yet sure where, if anywhere, the wire towards the motor winding should be attached.

Would this pump be suitable for our new pool (8,889 Gallons)?
 Reply

A  Answered on 12/3/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Chris. It is possible based on the pump's Total Dynamic Head (TDH).  Check out our How to Size a Pool Pump for more info.

I have the SP2607X102S in my pool and it just burned out - AGAIN - 3 times in 9 years of 24/7 operation!! It is installed with unions so I can just unscrew them, slide the new pump in and back in operation. Is there any variable speed pump you sell where the pump portion (not including the motor) would have the same dimensions as the SP2607X102S

Unfortunately, there is not a direct fit. The Hayward Super Pump VS Variable Speed Pump 230V - W3SP2603VSP measures 9.87" from the intake to the discharge port as compared to the current is 9.75".  I added the W3SP2603VSP dimension image below. The Waterway Power Defender 140 Variable Speed Pool Pump 1.4 HP 115V/230V - PD-140 is another pump you may review that could be used to replace the current, however, it too will require some minor plumbing adjustments.
