Do you carry replacement grids for the Hayward DE3620 filter? If so, are they made by Hayward?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/2/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hayward doesn't make the grids for their filters. The grids are usually made by a different manufacturer. We do carry replacement grids here: http://www.inyopools.com/cartridges_unicel.aspx

How do I backwash my Hayward Vertical Grid DE filter?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/8/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

When the filter pressure rises 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure, the filter must be backwashed. Turn off the pool pump. Rotate the multiport valve to backwash position or slide the slide valve up. When the pump is turned on, the dirty DE and water will flow out to waste. Once the water runs clear, turn off the pump. With a slide valve, push the handle down and start the pump. Once the pump is primed, add the required DE. If using a multiport valve, rotate the handle to rinse. Turn on the pump and let water flow for 20-30 seconds, cleaning out the plumbing lines. Turn off the pump and rotate the valve back to filter. Turn on the pump and once primed add required DE.

This model filter uses approximately 6 lbs. of D.E. when completely empty and approximately 3lbs. of D.E. after backwashing.

I have this model filter for a 20,000gal in ground pool. What is the minimum size pool pump hp I should use when relacing the pump?
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/17/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Brian M.

This filter is designed to handle a flow rate of  72 gallons per minute. Not all 1hp pumps have the same flow rate. It varies depending on design. The minimum would be a 3/4hp, but no more than a 1hp.

A  Answered on 5/6/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Andy O.

Brandon- With the DE3620 Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 36 Sq Ft w/o Valve you have a couple options as far as valves, if you want the multiport valve you can use the Vari-Flo Valve 1 1/2" for DE or Vari-Flo Valve 2" for DE and if you want to use a slide valve you can use Valve Ass'y, Slide -2" Skt Wg (sp0410x502s).

Is their an advanage by going to a higher volume filter? i.e. my filter should be a DE3620. If I go to a DE4820 will there be any type of advanage?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/11/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, the advantage would be that the larger filter likely would not need to be cleaned as often and could handle extra water pressure if the motor is ever up sized.

Hi, You can backwash a DE4820 filter using a slide or multiport valve. The "waste" port is located on the valve.

what size de filter do i need fora 19000gal pool with a 3/4hpee motor
 Reply

A  Answered on 7/11/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Matt S.

For a pump and pool that size, The Hayward Pro-Grid DE3620 will work fine, but you can use any of the filter sizes above that like the DE4820, DE6020, or DE7220. The larger the filter, the longer you can go between cleanings and maintenance. If you want a thorough guide on how to size a pool filter read/watch this guide: Inground Pool Equipment Selection Part 2: Filters

I have a 15 X 30 X 5 ft. inground pool with attached spa. I am running an old Waterway Crystal Water DE filter with a Pentair WFE-8 pump (2 in piping and a multiport valve). I replaced all the broken filter grids this spring and now I am again spewing DE into the pool. I think I need to replace the filter as it may be too small for the pump. I cannot read any of the markings on the filter (they all faded) What size filter should I have with this pump?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/16/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi Russ, The filter that you currently have is too small to be used with the WFE-8 pump. You will then need to determine the flow rate by calculating the "Feet of Head" of your pool in order to properly size a filter. That will be the determining factor on what size filter you need.

I have a 10x20 igp with 17 year old Hayward DE4800 filter and 1.5hp super pump. I go the whole season without having the clean or backwash the filter. I'm looking to replace the filter and was considering the DE3620, is this the right one to get, and is the 1.5hp pump too much power for this filter or can I use it? I was considering rebuilding the the motor or is a new one a better choice?
 Reply

A  Answered on 10/12/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Megan C.

Hi, Jeff. I best recommend replacing it with the same/new Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 48 Sq Ft w/o Valve - DE4820. The Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 HP Single Speed - SP2610X15ump has maximum output of 83 gallons per minute. Depending on the location of the equipment to the Total Resistance to Flow, you may exceed the design flow rate of the Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 36 Sq Ft w/o Valve - DE3620 at 72GPM. Please review our How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool first.

Hi, Jerry. The filter pressure will vary due to several factors such as the type of pump used, flow rate, pipe size etc. The lover the filter pressure the better.

Unfortunately, the lid for your model filter is obsolete. The best places to try and locate that would be at maybe a local pool retailer.

A  Answered on 6/11/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

You can switch but it may not be an issue that a larger filter will resolve. I would start by putting the valve in the recirculation position and if the return pressure increases then the issue is the grids need to be cleaned well or even replaced.

I have an old Anthony Apollo VA-52 - 2". The filter area is 52ft². For my pool volume (27000gal) the equivalent Hayward model seems to be a 36ft² model DE3620. I have a 2HP pump (oversized) with 2" connections. The pump curve shows a flow range with enough head for almost all filters. I just need to confirm the equivalent filter models to replace the VA-52. I had a filter bag blowout and the pool went green overnight when all the DE and muck blew back into the pool. Close call as I had 1 spare.

Cameron, the Anthony models were private labeled Hayward products. We apologize for the inconvenience, however, we are unable to obtain confirmation of the correct grid replacements and our database does not reference the Anthony parts.

If you are getting good flow pressure back to the swimming pool with no D.E. powder leaking back into the pool then a lower filter gauge pressure reading is actually a good thing for it means less water resistance from within the filter body itself.

A  Answered on 10/10/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

You may want to go back over the way all of the parts were installed as something may not be correct. Also please be advised that if the pool has been in clean up condition then it may be just getting backed up quickly. If non of these resolves that then you may want to consider having a technician come on-site to help inspect it.

Hi Kyle, you will need to inspect them for any damage to the material or even the plastic skeleton. You may also be able to soak and clean them first to break down any oils that may be sticking to the material.
