Hi, The Tank Lid Assy., 520 (after 11/98) (178582) would be the tank lid needed for the Clean & Clear Plus 520 Filter.

I have a 25,000 gal salt water pool. It measures 20'W x 33'L x 5' D (avg.). What model Pentair Cartridge Pool filter would be best for my pool?

Hi, Leonard. We will also need the flow rate of your pump to determine what size filter you'll need. To calculate the flow rate of you pump you can follow the steps in our How To: Size a Pool Pump guide.

My Pentair clean and clear model 520 tank, top/bottom o-ring needs replaced and I can't tell from this diagram which o-ring I should order . can you advise?
Thx

The body o-ring for your model filter is listed at key number 10 on the parts diagram listed here. There are two types based on year of manufacture. If you are not sure of that then you can call Pentair at 1-800-831-7133 with the serial number of the filter so they can confirm for you.

I know this may get a laugh, however, is it possible to only replace the bottom of my clean and clear unit? it is leaking due to corrosion and do not have $1000 to buy a new unit. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello,Thank you for contacting Inyo Pools. You can go with THIS part, if your unit was installed after 11/98.

I have a crack in the lid assembly. Is there a part number for just the lid assembly and not the entire unit? Thanks in advance!

Hi Dwight, in order to drain water out of a swimming pool with this filter you will need to remove the drain cap that you can see on this Pentair Clean & Clear Plus Cartridge parts diagram on key number 19. Here is a guide that we also created for adding a waste line as another option as well called "How To Add a Pool Waste Line"

Replacing a sand filter with pentair 420 or 520. Don't know which one to buy? Pool, 19,000-23,000 gals(approx) in ground/raised jacuzzi. A 3 HP, Pentair intelliflo pump manufactured in 2012. Pool cleaner tell me to go with 520. Pool company who does replacements states 420 more than enough. i know filters are 40% less for 420 but in a 3-5 year replacement cycle, not enough to be concerned about. Pool in nort Scottsdale,at 2,800 elevation. we don's get sandstorms as they do lower in the valley.

Hi Ethan, as long as you meet or exceed the gallons per minute(GPM) rating that your sand filter has in the new filter then you are good to go. If you are not sure of that specification then please use this guide we put together called "How To Size a Pool Filter" that should assist.

I have a 36,000 gallon pool with a 1HP Hayward pump. Am looking to switch away from D.E. Should I go with 420 or 520 sq.ft. cartridge filter?
Reply
Hello Brian. The Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 520 Cartridge Filter would be the more appropriate selection. This filter has 520 square feet of filter area and is rated for pools of this size. A 420 square foot cartridge filter is rated for pools more in the 20,000-gallon range. Additional note: for a pool of 36,000 gallons the pool circulation pump is undersized at 1 HP. ( other factors may have influenced this pump selection that are not apparent in this information ) In the future, if you choose to upgrade to a larger pump size, the 520 sq. ft. filter can accommodate up to a 2.0 HP pump. 55000 gals having trouble keeping pool clean algae builds up on walls what size filter do i need gone through a couple now is there a filter bigger than 520 thanks

Hi Jay, it sounds like your filter is properly sized for your pool. Generally, lack of chlorine is the biggest reason to have algae. Maybe your stabilizer (CYA) level is too high, making the chlorine ineffective. Your pool may not be as green as the pictures in our article on Why Is My Pool Green?, but I recommend reading that as well as our article on How to Clean a Green Pool?. We would also recommend getting a good, reliable test kit like this Taylor Water Test Kit FAS-DPD - K-2006 to get accurate readings of your pool's chemistry.
