Whats the difference between p6e and p6ra models?
Reply
Hello Dennis - The difference between P6E6E206L and P6RA6E205L is the difference between a Full Rated (Energy Efficient ) and a standard motor. We have great guide on explaining the Difference Between Full Rated and Up Rated pumps which may be helpful. They will produce the same horse power, just the Full rated would be more efficient at doing it.

Bought this pump 2 years ago and will not turn on without me removing back and twisting shaft to get it started. Do I need a new motor? if so which one?

Dennis, The replacement motor for your Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro 1 HP Up Rate Standard Pump is an A.O. Smith 1 H.P Square Flange Up Rate Motor (USQ1102), also recommend getting a Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Tune Up Kit (GOKIT79).

Will this pump match up fairly closely with the max-e-glas 1/2 hp pump I currently have ? If not what pump would be most suitable. The max-e-glas I have is a PE series and is 13 years old.

I have an older (Appx 28 yrs old) sta-rite P2R-A5E with 3/4 horse motor, presently having a 42 GPM flow rate alternately serving a 13,000 gallon pool and a 500 gallon hot tub, works well. I want to purchase a back-up pump if this one gives up. Wondering if a 1 HP would be over powered + my pump has 1 1/2 inch inlet/outlet. I need an exact fit (I don't want to have to deal with re-plumbing) needs to be fast and easy in this application. ..and quiet is a big plus. Thanks for your advice! John

You will need to confirm the model number on the filter to determine if it can handle the increased flow rate. The Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro 1 HP Up Rate Standard - P6RA6E205L will provide an approximate 65 gallons per minute at 50' of head. This is the direct replacement to your pump. The filter offers 2" ports, you will need to purchase threaded adaptors that reduce to 1.5" for the installation. If you click on the tape measure below the image of the pump on the product page, it will provide you with all measurements to compare to your current pump.

what is the GPM at TDH

Hi. I will need the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) figure in order to calculate the GPM.

Looking to change this model out to a variable speed. Recommendations?

Hi. Your options are the Sta-Rite IntelliPro Variable Speed Pump - P6E6VS4H-209L, Hayward TriStar VS Pump - SP3202VSP or the PureLine Prime 2.7 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump - PL2606.

Do I need to go so high on the HP, Would any of the other Pureline (PL2516, or PL 2605) work just as well?

Since the pumps have different performance levels, you will have to go higher on some versus the other. If you can provide the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of your pool, we will be able to recommend the best variable speed pump that will meet your pool needs.
