I did the #2 treatment and now I can't get a chlorine reading. Did I do something wrong?

With a Stain #2 treatment, the chemical will cause a low combined chlorine reading for as much as 30 days. You should not try to shock out the combined chlorine for two weeks following the treatment. Be sure that you are testing both free and total chlorine to avoid over chlorinating.

How soon can I swim after using the Jacks Magic Stain #2?
 Reply

When doing a Stain #2 treatment we do not recommend the pool being used by people or pets due to the pH being below the normal levels.

During #2 treatment, what chlorine level should I keep, or I don't have to add chlorine at all till the stain is gone? I understand there is no shock for 2 weeks.

You want to keep you chlorine level at 1-3ppm. TIP: This treatment can produce false free chlorine readings for 3-4 weeks; use the total chlorine reading during this time

One of your questions that was answered, was can we swim while using this product, and the answer was no, because the pH levels would be too low. Ok, so how does the pH levels being low hurt anyone? And is the dip sticks good enough to tell, or should I be using the chemistry set?

April. Our body's pH level is around 7.4. Swimming in a pool with the pH level lower or higher than 7.4 can cause eye and skin irritation. You can use test strips or a test kit to check to check the pH ppm of your pool water, an good level  7.2 to 7.6 ppm.

We have a plaster saltwater pool that is 10 years old. We have grayish stains throughout, some darker than others. With our water test, it showed our iron level was just above normal. Would too much iron cause these gray streaked stains?

Hi Stacey, In our Identifying Pool Stains Blog, "iron" stains are usually yellow or brownish. Gray stains is caused by copper. I would recommend getting a Jack's Magic Stain IDentification™ Kit to verify what type od stain you're dealing with.

Does this only work where powder is applied. How long does it take to work. How long do we leave it in before we said it failed. Thanks

Hi, CV. This product when dissolved into the water will treat surface stains. This product depending on the stains and how long it's been can take several weeks to work. You can review the Stain Solution #2 Treatment for instructions.
