What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

What is the rotation of the shaft on A.O. Smith model B654?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/2/2013 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The rotation of the shaft is counterclockwise. This means the shaft will turn counterclockwise when looking at the motor from the end where the pump is located.

Hi, Jon. You can use this Century B654 or the ST1102 as a replacement. However, this B654 motor is the direct replacement.

does the impellor detach from the motor with just the one nut in the middle

Hi, Val. You will first have to unscrew the Impeller Screw (if applicable) in a clockwise rotation, then unscrew the impeller in a counter-clockwise rotation. Here are a couple guides that we have How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool PumpHow To Replace A Pool Pump ImpellerHow To Replace a Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Pump Impeller.

Hi, I have a leaky motor pump assembly. I have a B654 motor. Which toolkit do I need to buy to do the necessary maintenance? I am assuming the shaft seal and some o-rings need to be replaced once the assembly is opened.... so need the right toolkit please thanks

Hi, Sofia. You will also need to provide us with the make and model of the pump housing in order for us to know which toolkit you will need. If you're unable to provide the model number, pictures of the pump housing will do.

I believe I need this pump my pump hasK63CXDGH-5169 EB654 Do I need any other part when I am replacing this pump?

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/6/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Craig C.

Hello Richard.  The Century 1.0 HP motor B654 is the correct replacement for the Century EB654.  When replacing the motor it is advisable to replace the associated shaft seal, gaskets, and o-rings.  These parts are specific to the manufacturer make/model of the pump, not the motor.  This information is located on the pump body itself.  If unable to determine the pump make/model, please provide several pictures of the entire pump inclusive of the plumbing inlet and outlet.

I have a magnum force pump with a century 7-184949-22 motor that has failed. The recommended replacement is a B654 motor with an external capacitor. Is the capacitor and it's housing removable to install the pump ring-lok?
 Reply

A  Answered on 7/21/2023 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Hello William, yes you can remove the capacitor temporarily during installation but be sure to reattach it before starting up and make sure to reconnect it in the exact locations on the prongs of the capacitor exactly as they were prior.
