What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Need to purchase a shaft seal or a tune up kit for this motor as it is running dry now. Any suggestions for the right model number to look up for?

Good afternoon, we would need the information on the front half of your pump? I would need the manufacturer and model which is usually located on a sticker or plate on the plastic housing of the pump. https://www.inyopools.com/Blog/pool-parts-101-the-difference-between-a-pump-and-a-motor

Looking for replacement motor for my Jandy PHPM2.5 Filter Pump. Please see the attached photo showing the description of the current motor. Could you please verify Century 2.5 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2840 listed above is the correct replacement. Thanks!
Your motor is the B2840 so yes, this s the correct single speed replacement motor.

I am replacing the 2.5 HP motor on my Pentair WFE-30. is this the correct motor replacement for this pump. I can not find a frame type or number on my current pump but all else looks correct. Also, what rebuild kit do I need?
Do all pool pumps rotate the same way?
How about the impeller, do they all pull the same way?

Virtually all pool pump motor shafts spin counter-clockwise if you are looking at the front end of the motor. They all pull the same way.

Will this work as a replacement for my Century 2.4hp pump? See image. Thx!
Hi James, You will actually need this B130 Replacement Motor. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.

Ok yeah. Please look at my images. The bolts are impossible to move. They are below the flange part of the impeller and all solid metal there. I tried wrench with tons of force and not moving. So do I need a new impeller or assembly? Idk. I just cannot in any way move those bolts.

Thanks for the photos! You will need this Jandy Stealth Seal Kit and the other parts for your pump can be found here Jandy Stealth Parts Page In regards to the bolts maybe try some WD40 or a longer handle ratchet which will allow you to generate more torque.

OMG I have to remove impeller. Just saw video on your site. Thx. Sorry I didn’t see that

Here are pictures. I can’t get the old flange kit off. It is rock solid with barely any movement for the nut. So I probably need to replace that black large piece attached to engine. Any idea what it is or how to remove/replace it? Pics attached.
Replacing Century B2983, part # 7-196444-05. Any advantage or adverse effects using the 2.5 hp model B2840?
Thanks,
Terry Bridgman

Hello Terry. Replacing the Century Motors 1.5 HP Full Rate Dual Speed Motor model B2983 with the Century Motors 2.5 HP Up Rate Motor model B2840 provides no advantage to water flow but may provide a small incremental increase in motor life expectancy. The transition would result in an increase in power consumption. First by eliminating the low-speed option and secondly, the amperage draw of the B2840 is slightly higher at full RPM. If the installation is in the State of California, the motor model B2840 is not available as it is not California Title 20 Compliant.
