What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

A  Answered on 1/12/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

Hello Michael - The B668 (3285-81) is a replacement motor. You will need to replace the shaft seal (5250-106) if you are replacing the motor. If you decide to replace the complete pump (LA01N), you will not require any additional parts.

Hi, John. The Motor Shaft O-ring  - 112 does not come with the motor. I would recommend using the PS-3865 SW Pump Seal.

Is there a picture of the wiring for 115V supply? The B668 motor I have does not have the black rotating dial for 115 or 230 nor does it have the black plug. I have two outer connections with wires already connected and disappearing into the motor. There are two connections between these other two to attach my wires too (also the ground connection). With black and white, 115V supply attached the motor overheats and shuts itself off. Should I just change the breaker and wire for 230V?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/15/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

Bret, There should be a wiring diagram on the motor label. To wire it for 115v, you will have to move some of the wires internally wired to the motor.

I have the B668 motor from A.O. Smith. It runs no problem, but it has made a very loud whining sound now for 4-5 years now. I replaced the bearings myself a year ago, but it didn't seem to have any effect (maybe I didn't replace them correctly, I don't know). It is just the bearing that can cause that sound? Is there something else that can cause that?

 Reply

A  Answered on 3/25/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Ron. Bad bearings are the only thing that can cause a motor to make a loud whining sound.

I have replaced the capacitor on top of the motor. Motor ran for about I minute and shut down. Is there a capacitor in back in of motor. Do I have to replace the o ring on the Shaft.
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/27/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Ray. This motor does not have another capacitor. It sounds like there is a more internal issue with the motor. A shaft o-ring is not required for this application.

Our booster pump was leaking for a bit so my husband turned it off. When he turned it back on after a few days it made a loud grinding sound. We are trying to figure out if we need to replace the whole motor or if there is another option we can try. Not sure if it is completely shot. Any ideas? Suggesrions? I have added the photos of the label so if we need to replace, you can tell us what product(s) to purchase. Thanks!

Hi, Kelli. Based on your description the motor bearing has failed or is failing. The motor will have to be replaced with this B668. You will also need to get the Volute O-ring - LLA415 and Pump Shaft Seal - PS-1000

Hi Kelli, In regards to replacing your motor it does not matter which cleaner you have. If you are looking at replacing your cleaner, then we would suggest going with Legend or Racer Pressure Side Cleaners as those will work well with your Letro Booster Pump.

No, the Letro Booster Pump 3/4 HP Motor for 1997 to current - B668 does not require an o-ring on the shaft. The Pump Shaft Seal 5/8" - PS-1000 or PS-3865 for salt pools will need to be replaced with the use of Clear Silicone RTV 3 Oz. (66br) - 80050 You may use How To Change The Shaft Seal On A Polaris PB4-60 Booster Pump for the replacement directions to the PSR1000 seal. The O-ring, Volute - LLA415 should be replaced and add a little Magic Lube O-ring Lubricant 1 Oz. Teflon - 630 to this O-ring for sealing.

I have this as booster pump and it’s dead. So I will need a motor and what else?

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/9/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

You will require this motor page Motor B668. When replacing your motor you will need a seal kit. For us to suggest the proper seal kit could you send a photo of a wide shot of your complete pool pump to show the pipes going in and out of the pump? To supply this photo simply click the reply link below and upload your photo. Once we get this photo we can make the proper recommendation for the seal kit.

Ok, thank you! another question, it also leaks from the bottom so should i get the entire pump with the casing or just get the motor? Motor doesn't work but when it did, it leaked from the bottom so not sure if i should just buy the entire piece & not just the motor. Will i still need the shaft seal and do i need anything else if i purchase the entire piece versus just the inside motor? Let me know. Just trying to weigh all my options. thanks!

Hi Tara, If it is leaking then I would suggest this complete LA01N Letro Booster Pump as the price of the complete pump is not much more expensive thethe motor and seal kit. Also the installation will be a lot easier by replacing the complete pump vs. replacing the motor.
