Why should I purchase the heavy duty seal?
Reply
The heavy duty shaft seal features carbon graphite, stainless steel, and Viton rubber. The properties of this seal contribute to the resistance of chemical corrosion. This is the best choice for salt chlorine generators or ozonators.

How do I change the shaft seal on my pool pump?
Reply
Changing the shaft seal is quite simple. Here's How To Replace a Pool Motor Shaft Seal.

should I replace the seal every time I replace the motor?
Reply
Yes we suggest replacing the shaft seal whenever you replace your motor as the old seal sometimes does not mate up properly with the new motor. Also the warranty on the motor is voided is there is leaking to due the seal.

will this fit ao smith 1 hp square flag 56y motor

It will depend on the model of your pump, not your motor. The motor can go to several different model pumps, so would need to know the model of your pump to determine the correct shaft seal.

What is the difference between a chlorine pool and a soft water with regard to the seal?

Dan, Salt-water is more corrosive to equipment so it is recommended to use a heavy duty shaft seal. Other wise, the seal will fail prematurely and cause damage to the motor.

I have a PEA6F-182L model with C103-193P Seal Plate, C105-137PEB impeller and USQ1152 Motor. Just want to be sure this is the correct seal. The "Seal Plate Kit - C203-193P" showed a different seal.

Hi Chris, yes this is the correct shaft seal for the Sta-Rite Dura Glas/ Max E Glass pump series. Just keep in mind that if you have the copper cone insert in the seal plate then it will need to be removed for this shaft seal to fit.

Is there a salt water substitute for GOKIT78?
Reply
Hello Richard. Additional information would be necessary in order to determine if this is the correct shaft seal for your project. Shaft seals are specific to the pool pump manufacturer and pump model, not the motor itself. If you could provide pump manufacturer and model information, a determination could be made as to the correct shaft seal replacement. There is no saltwater substitute for the GOKIT78. A heavy-duty shaft seal (saltwater pools) is available separately: PS-3867 Pump Shaft Seal Heavy Duty (Saltwater Pools) - PS-3867

Will this seal fit a Polaris PB4-60 pre-2011 booster pump for a saltwater pool? The diameter of the shaft seal sold with the PB4-60 is too small for my shaft
Reply
Good afternoon Marc, That part number 5250-210 is not the correct shaft seal based on the information you provided. If you have a pb4-60 then the correct shaft seal would be the Pump Shaft Seal PS-1000, Heavy Duty (Saltwater Pools) - PS-3865
