What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Yes, that is going to be one of the replacement motors for your DuraGlas. If you have the motor part number I can confirm that is the motor that you are needing.

Hi. I have a pre-1998 Hot Springs spa with a STA-RITE Max-E Glas pump. The motor is Model K48K2PA105 Series 8191; 1HP, 3450RPM, 115/230 Volt, KW.75 It is in need of replacement. Is this the right replacement motor? Also would it be worth while to replace the Seal Plate with the newer kit?
I had replaced all the o-ring seals previously, but it still leaked like a sieve (even after rechecking tightness and seating.)
Thanks.
Reply
Hi George, This PL2102 motor can be used to replace the K48K2PA105 motor but it will use more energy since the K48K2PA105 is an energy efficient motor. Yes, I would also recommend replacing the Seal Plate Kit (C203-193P) to ensure that pump does not leak.

I currently have a DuraGlas P2RA5E-181L and it is tripping the breaker after it heats up. This can last 30 min - 1 hour. I'm thinking about just replacing the motor and cleaning up the rest. Is there any other seals that I need to buy?
Reply
Hello Steve, depending on whether you have pre1998 for gokit6 and then there is gokit54 for 1998 to present. If you are not sure you can just get the gokit54 you would just remove the copper cone in the pump. There is a "how to" video on this here.

We have an older pump P2RA5E-181L, 1HP, Type B, . We had our in ground pool changed over to a salt water pool last summer and we knew the pump was getting old. It now just hums and wont pump and water. We would like to replace the pump thinking it would be more economical. Is there a 2 phase pump that we can replace it with or do we have to stay with the 1 phase.
Thank-you,
Elaine

Hello Elaine, if you are looking for a whole pump replacement and want to stay with a Starite brand these are all units for Starite. If you are looking for something more economical may I suggest a Variable Speed, please make sure you have 2" plumbing and are hooked up for correct voltage.

Purchased a PL2102 to replace an AO Smith motor. Old motor had blue wire connected to L1 and black wire connected to L2 on a 230V set up. On PL2102, do I connect the black wire to terminal 1 and the blue wire to terminal 3 or vice versa? Diagram received with the PL2102 shows the power line going to terminal 3, but not sure if this is the blue or black wire. Thank you for the assistance.

Good morning Alex, On the motor label there is a wiring diagram and it shows you the terminals where you should be for 230v.

Hi Bob, The PL2102 motor on this page is the correct replacement motor for your Sta-rite Dura-glas pump with a C48K2PA105 motor. When replacing your motor we strongly recommend a tune-up kit, the kit includes a shaft seal as well as all the gaskets for your pump. The tune-up kit ensures that you don't have any leaking when you install the new motor. There are a few different tune-up kits for the Sta-Rite Dura-Glas so we put together this Video on How to Select a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas Tune Up Kit Here is the Tune Up Kit for pre 1998 Dura-Glas and here is the Tune Up Kit for the after 1998 Dura-Glas. Finally here is a Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful.

i need to replace my p6e6e motor can i use the pl2102 motor to replace it
Reply
Hi, JB. Unfortunately, in order to use the PL2102 motor, you will have to downsize the impeller which will also reduce water flow. The PL2102 motor has a lower total horsepower than what it's originally designed for. You can use the QC1102 EE Motor which is the direct replacement or the SQ1102 standard motor.

Hi, Based on your part # you have a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas and the PL2102 is the correct replacement motor. If your pump is Pre 1998 then you need this Pre1998 Sta-Rite Dura-Glas Tune Up Kit and if your pump is 1998 to Present then you will need the Sta-Rite Dura-Glas 1998 to Present Tune Up Kit. If you don't how old your pump is, then we have put together a Video on How to Tell If I have a Pre 1998 Sta-Rite Dura-Glas or Post 1998 Dura-Glas, which you should find helpful.

Hi, I plan to rebuilt my existing pool pump, Sta-Rite Dura Glass 1HP Model USQ1102, Motor Model C48K2PA105C5. Following your replacement guideline, your guideline suggests replacing the motor with a PL2102. However when I look at the wiring diagram on my existing pump motor, it compares to the SQ1102. Does this suggest that either can be used?
Reply
Hi Jack, The SQ1102 and USQ1102 motors are not interchangeable. When I check this part C48K2PA105C5 I show it comes back as a USQ1102 and this PL2102 is a direct replacement for your USQ1102 motor. We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Pentair Whisperflo, Pentair Challenger, Jandy Stealth, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

The pump is different. Do I attach the hots to the spade fittings on the capacitor? I see no other place for the spade fittings to attach. Anyway you should update your pictures and manual to match the current pump. The end cap is differnet and more of a hassle as the screws are flat head and recessed.

Your installation video is for a 230 volt motor, mine is 115. Your written instructions show moving a white wire on terminal 4 to terminal 1, then moving the black from terminal 2 to 4. My motor already has a white on terminal 1 and it has a black and a white on terminal 4. Am I supposed to move the white now on terminal 4 to join the other white on terminal 1? Do I leave the black on 4 the way it is now?
