Rob: Hello, welcome to a special New Year’s edition to poolside chat presented by inyopools.com. I’m Rob.
Matt: I’m Matt. Guten morgen. It’s German. It’s one of my resolutions, learn German. Was haben sie?
Rob: Good luck with that.
Matt: Okay. Auf Wiedersehen.
Rob: Probably go as well as your Japanese from last year.
Matt: I can order sushi like no one’s business. We have a whole list of New Year’s resolutions for the pool owner out there. It’s actually attached to a blog written by a very handsome man. Take a look at it.
Rob: Who is that?
Matt: A little fellow named Matt. Well he ain’t little, but–
Matt: Here it goes. Our first resolution is: I resolve to properly balance my water chemistry. Do you know how to do it because I sure as hell can?
Rob: It’s something simple and if you stay on top of it, it’s much easier.
Matt: In the blog, we actually mention the PoolMath calculator which is from trouble free pool. I actually love it because it takes all the guess work. You don’t have to dump in hope with chlorine and pH balancer. It gives you exact totals. It even helps you calculate the volume of your pool. It’s very helpful. Our next one is: I resolve to stop making mistakes. You should really work on this one.
Rob: Yes, I need to. It was a rough year. A lot of mistakes. Yes, resolve to stop making mistakes. Mistakes with your pool pump motor or your pool pump–
Matt: Your filter, don’t forget your filter.
Rob: My filter. Yes, you don’t want to make mistakes with your filter or your cleaner. No because they’re auto-fill.
Matt: I don’t like that one. Our stop making mistakes resolution is also tied to a bunch of blogs where we go through some past blogs and we mention what are the top seven mistakes people make with their pool pumps. Or top three or four mistakes new pool owners make. It’s very helpful to see where you might be going wrong especially if you’re dealing with an issue like water chemistry, or having a noisy pool pump or something going on with your pool and you just can’t figure it out. Usually it’s the simplest things that are going wrong. Take a look at that. All right next resolution is: I resolve to hack my pool. Not with an axe but something cool and tricky.
Rob: Yes, little things you can do that are inexpensive. Maybe things you have around the house, like dropping a tennis ball in your skimmer because that will suck up the oils and grease.
Matt: Plus you can give it to the dog afterwards.
Rob: You can give it — well, after the oil and grease?
Matt: Yes. Maybe it’s good for the coat.
Rob: It’s a dirty dog.
Matt: I’m not a vet. I’m not a vet.
Rob: Other things you can do: you can use pantyhose in the skimmer basket to catch the really fine debris.
Matt: He always has those on hand.
Rob: Not just in jokes.
Rob: What was the third one? Pouring stabilizer into a long sock–
Matt: Wet gym sock just to prevent it from getting cloudy because–
Rob: Yes because that stuff will clump up, stay on the bottom of your pool so you can fill it up in the sock, let it hang over usually by return jet so that they can slowly dissolve.
Matt: That is no bueno. That is three languages so far.
Rob: I don’t know. I don’t know if you have any more but–
Matt: [Foreign language]. I don’t know what that is. Look it up. Our next one is: I will resolve not to ignore my spa. Now this is tied to an old blog post that I did. Actually a blog series about why is my spa dirty? I have a spa or a hot tub–
Rob: That is presently dirty.
Matt: –on my backyard. Yes, presently dirty. I let it relapse. I apologize, but basically I had a spa in my backyard that was not being kept up. I don’t think I put chlorine or anything in it for a couple of months and then one day, I was like, “I’m going to do it.” I bought a bunch of chemicals and then I took a bunch of pictures, wrote everything down and put it in a spa blog. It’s pretty interesting. I made up my chemical romance joke in there.
Rob: Those are always good.
Matt: Yes, you wouldn’t expect that from a pool blog.
Rob: Hey Matt, how’s that spa looking out? How’s the spa looking now?
Matt: Next resolution.
Rob: Moving on.
Matt: This is the most important resolution. I resolve to stop wearing wigs and costumes. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, please take a look at our Halloween and Christmas–
Rob: Yes, our Christmas and Halloween videos.
Matt: I went to college for this.
Rob: Yes, you did.
Matt: Go UCF.
Rob: I spent eight years here building a very stoic image of myself and I blew it pretty much soon as we started doing Poolside Chat.
Matt: I was hammering away just bring down that wall.
Rob: That wall was brought down.
Matt: Lastly, the most important of the resolutions: we resolve to keep bringing you the pool knowledge and fun you so graciously deserve. I think I used graciously right.
Rob: Yes, sure. Who’s still watching at this point?
Matt: I don’t know.
Rob: Probably turned the channel.
Matt: My mom. My mom’s probably — she’s, “Oh that big old boy,” she loves me.
Rob: Yes, our moms are still watching. Yes, we resolve to keep bringing more knowledge and Poolside Chats to you.
Matt: Yes, because they’re going to keep paying us. Thank you very much. Yes, hopefully because I don’t want to do this out of my garage. Thank you for joining us this year. Hopefully next year is just as fun and hopefully I get a better co-host. Thank you for joining us. Bye.
