PSC Ep. 50: Can I use an expandable liner with my oval pool?

In today’s episode of Poolside Chat, Rob and Matt tackle another common swimming pool question:

  • Can I add a deep end to an oval above ground pool?

I am interested in one of your oval pools, and want to install an expandable liner for a deep end. Is this possible and does it void the warranty?

First, for the readers out there who might not be familiar, explain why an expandable liner with our oval pools might bring up concerns.

An expandable liner allows above-ground pools to have a deep end. Obviously, this means there can’t be anything under the pool. Here’s the problem: all of our oval pools have metal straps that run underneath the pool and provide support to the braces. If you want a flat bottom pool, this isn’t an issue, but if you want a deep end, those straps need to be eliminated. The manufacturer of our pools has provided detailed instructions on how to eliminate the metal straps. They’ve also confirmed to us that as long as the instructions are followed, the warranty will not be Voided.

To eliminate the straps, you’ll have to cut them at the center point and attach the cut straps to a cinder block and bury that cinder block at an angle with the slope. For a list of detailed instructions, here is the Wilbar Instruction Manual for Eliminating  Straps.
