Can I replace bearings on a variable speed pump motor?

PSC Ep. 64: Can I replace bearings on a variable speed pump motor?

In today’s episode of Poolside Chat, Rob and Matt tackle another common swimming pool question:
  • Can I replace bearings on a variable speed pump motor?

“Is it possible to replace bearings on a variable speed pool pump motor? If so, is it more difficult than a traditional motor?”

To answer the first question, yes it is possible. And to the second question, it is more difficult than a traditional motor. We only recommend that a qualified motor repair shop replace the bearings in a variable speed pool pump motor. The magnets in the motor are very strong and there’s a potential for a hand injury during reassembly.

If you’re wondering, “Am I qualified enough to do this, replace these bearings?” Chances are, you are not. Unless you’re licensed, I would steer clear and find a pro to do it for you. Now, if you have a single-speed motor, we do have guides and videos on how to replace those (Part 1, Part 2.) They should be in the description down below but take a look at those if you have a single speed motor.
