In today’s video, Rob shows us how to replace an incandescent pool light bulb with a Pureline PureColors LED pool light bulb. We’ll also show you why LED bulbs may be a better option than a whole next pool light fixture; we’ll also explain how to find the right pool light lens gaskets to complete the installation.
Why use a replacement Pool Light LED bulb?
Cost
Replacing a pool light bulb instead of the whole fixture is cheaper in terms of materials and labor costs. A Pureline PureColors pool LED replacement bulb can be as little as 1/10th the cost of a whole LED light fixture (Hayward ColorLogic, Pentair Intellibrite.)
LED pool lights may be higher than traditional options, they prove to be cost-effective in the long run. Their energy efficiency and longer lifespan result in significant savings on energy bills and replacement costs, making them a smart investment for any pool owner.
Ease of Installation
A user only needs the PureColors bulb, replacement lens gasket, and a screwdriver to install a new bulb.
If you need to replace the whole light fixture, you’ll need the new fixture, screwdriver, epoxy (or cord stopper,) and any tools needed to pull through the new cable. The materials can vary for pulling through the new cable. Duct tape or twine is used to attach the new cable to the old cable so you can thread it as you pull out the old cable.
Finding the Right Lens Gasket
To complete your pool light bulb replacement, you must pick the right lens gasket to ensure the light housing is watertight. The PureColors is compatible with Pentair Amerlite, Hayward AstroLite, and Hayward Duralite light models.
- Check the fixture label – Your pool light fixture’s model number is on the housing sticker. You can see example model numbers in the accompanying pictures. Search your model number on INYOPools.com to find your lens gasket.
- Compare Housings – Compare your light housing to the examples in our photo gallery. The most notable differences between the AstroLite, DuraLite, and Amerilite are the lens and face rim patterns.

Replacing Your Pool Light Bulb
- Turn off Power
- Remove the pilot screw in the light-face rim
- Place the light fixture on a towel on your pool deck
- Remove the light’s face ring and clamp
- Remove lens gasket and lens
- Unscrew old pool light bulb
- Inspect housing for water, rust, and other defects before installing a new LED pool light bulb.
- Screw in the new bulb
- Reinstall the pool light lens with the new lens gaskets.
- Reattach the face ring and clamp assembly
- Recoil the pool light cable slack to prepare it for the niche.
- Replace fixture into pool light niche, secure with pilot screw and washer.
