Replacing the light bulb in your swimming pool light is pretty standard. What isn’t standard, though, are the bulbs. Unlike traditional home lighting, pool light bulbs vary with the brand and light fixture. To help pool owners replace their pool light bulbs, we compiled a comprehensive LED pool light bulb replacement guide.
Hopefully, the pool light bulb replacement guide will help prevent pool owners from purchasing the wrong bulb and educate them on their bulb options, as well.
LED Replacement Bulb Options
Can you install an LED replacement bulb into your existing light or do you have to purchase a brand new light fixture?
That is probably one of the most frequently asked questions we hear from pool owners regarding LED bulb replacement options. And a valid one, too. The answer to that question is “depends.”
The bad news is, not every white light fixture has an LED replacement bulb option.
The good news is, the most popular swimming pool lights will usually do. In our LED pool light bulb replacement guide, we provide all of the swimming pool lights that currently offer LED replacement bulbs.
Hayward AstroLite, StarLite, and DuraLite
The Hayward Astrolite, StarLite, and DuraLite light series are very popular white pool lights that come standard in a wide range of voltages, wattages, and cord lengths. Be careful, although they use the same light bulbs, they use different replacement parts
For a long time, though, the flood bulb was the only option for these lights. Now, we have an LED replacement bulb. Keep scrolling to view your light bulb replacement options and an exploded diagram of your light.

LED Pool Light Fixtures
As the demand for incandescent lights decreased, the demand for LED lights increased. As a result, pool manufactures had to design brand new LED light fixtures that pool owners could use to replace their entire light. That is the case with the Hayward ColorLogic, Pentair IntelliBrite, and Jandy WaterColors. Although all three lights are great LED lights in their own right, they still provide one problem for pool owners- replacing the bulb.
Each light has an integrated LED board that is responsible for emitting light. Unlike traditional lights, once the light goes out, pool owners are forced to replace the entire light fixture. In these lights, you do not have the option to simply replace the bulb. For most, this can be a financial burden. A brand new LED light fixture can easily range from $600- $1,000. Not to mention, replacing your pool light fixture takes two to three hours out of your day to replace. This is really why we like the PureLine Pure Colors LED pool light.
PureLine Pure Colors LED
The PureLine Pure Colors LED light fixture is one of the first LED pool light fixtures that allows pool owners the option to replace just the bulb. the Pure Colors LED light takes advantage of the Pentair Amerlite Fixture and the Pure Colors LED bulb.
The Pure Colors LED light kit provides pool owners better flexibility and control over their pool lighting. Replacing the bulb is more cost-effective than replacing the entire light fixture and it saves pool owners the install time. Replacing a bulb only takes approximately thirty minutes versus two hours to replace a whole fixture.
In today’s age, if you’re looking for the best efficiency and the best lighting, we recommend you go with an LED light. If you currently own an incandescent light fixture, determine if they made an LED bulb replacement. In many cases, you won’t have to purchase a brand new fixture. However, for some pool owners, you may.
If you are currently in the market for a new LED light fixture, we recommend the PureLine Pure Colors. The Pure Colors LED light fixture gives you the flexibility to replace the LED bulb and retrofit into most standard Pentair niches.
If you’re having trouble locating a replacement LED bulb for your light, give us a call, or leave the make and model of your light fixture in the comments section.
I have the Hayward Crystal Logic 10 inch LED light LPLUS11100 with the flat Hayward niche LFGUY1000. In the almost 9 years of pool ownership this is #4 that went dark!
Not crazy about putting another Hayward in, but my question is, is there anything out there that would fit or could be made fit?
Also, I noticed, nobody even seems to carry the Crystal Logic light online.
I posted a question last night and realized I don’t believe I left my email address. My question was regarding what do we do if we currently have an LED light fixture which is the Hayward color logic 2.0 that lasted one year. I want to take it out and replace will I have to choose another LED light fixture or can I install a regular light fixture and buy an LED light off of Amazon or somewhere else?
Any guidance would be appreciated
The light options you have depends on the style of the niche. Only another flat-back LED fixture will work if you have the shallow LED colorogic light niche. If the niche is the standard deep style, then you can use Most LED light fixtures or can switch to an incandescent style.
Very informative article but I do have a couple questions. We have the Hayward color logic 2.0 lock and it has never worked right since we’ve had it. It basically worked one season which put it out of his warranty so I prefer to not go with Hayward again. With that said can I replace it using the PureLine Pure colors since there is no bulb with the Hayward or how do I change that out? Thanks in advance
The PureColors bulb won’t fit in the ColorLogic housing. But you can buy an Amerilite or Astrolite and replace the incandescent bulb that comes with the light with a PureColors. You can also replace it with an IntelliBrite if you prefer an enclosed light, but they are much more expensive.
Before purchasing a new light, you must confirm the niche type in your pool. Some ecologic lights were installed with a shallow niche in which only other flat-backed LED fixtures can fit.
