What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

I will be buying this motor, but I don't see a go-kit for a 3/4 HP motor. What should I by??
Reply
Hello Alicia. The motor you are looking at can fit on many different pump models. The GO-KITs are determined by the make and model of pump the motor is going on. If you can get us that information, we can get the right GO-KIT for you.

Replacing the motor was pretty straightforward, 6 bolts attach motor assembly to the pump housing, and 4 bolts attach the motor to the motor assembly. The how to guide on inyopools cover's every detail and with the time to read that first it still doesn't take very long. Maybe 1.5 hours

I called Customer Service at INYP Pools and they helped me find the right replacement pump to order along with the correct gasket replacement kit. I received both and am happy to report that everything was installed correctly and now my pump works fine.
The only issue I did encounter was with the installation of the ceramic bushings. The bushing/washer included in the kit was generic and didn't appear to fit correctly. I ordered a OEM Pentair one and it fit properly. This was the first time I've done this type of repair and it'll be much easier the next time now that I know what I'm doing.

(2 out of 5 stars) Don't expect long lasting
Reviewed By: Terence Y. ()
Pros: none
Cons: short lifespan
Ours lasted less than 2 years, then started grinding and howling so loud that I thought it was going to explode. Pool pumps should be able to last longer than that. Our previous one, a genuine A O Smith one, had lasted 13 years.

Pros: Great product, great company. Thank you
Cons: Can't think of any
This motor is lighter, very quiet, easy to assemble! I have advice to add for anyone needing to buy a motor: I found it impossible to remove my old motor from the seal plate of the pump without breaking it. (The piece the motor bolts to) I strongly advise buying the motor, seal plate and seal, get the salt water seal its heavy duty, and spend the extra $25 or so on the oring seals, the big one for the seal plate and the small one for the diffuser. Do it once and be done.

(5 out of 5 stars) Replacement motor
Reviewed By: Kevin P. from Yakima,Wa ()
Pros: very easy swap. perfect fit
Cons: none
My old pump(motor actually) was creatinging a rather unusual problem. It would start up fine but my filter pressure would drop over time resulting in diminished flow. Changed my sand, checked for leaks, obstructions etc. Turned out the motor would heat up and the bearings would drag decreasing the output. This was an old 3/4 duraglass pump. The swap was a piece of cake taking less than 20 minutes. Works like a champ and quiet as well.

(5 out of 5 stars) Excellent Pump Moter Replacement
Reviewed By: PoJo from Clarence, NY ()
Pros: Awesome fit - excellent replacement
Cons: none
Tip to get the impeller off the old pump moter: use a 7/16" open ended wrench - it slides in near the capacitor on the electrical side... rotate the impeller until the wrench slides into place at the end of the shaft and then one person holds the motor and the wrench while a 2nd person loosens the impeller off with bare hands by turning the impeller counter clock-wise.
