Do you carry replacement grids for the Hayward DE3620 filter? If so, are they made by Hayward?
Reply
Hayward doesn't make the grids for their filters. The grids are usually made by a different manufacturer. We do carry replacement grids here: http://www.inyopools.com/cartridges_unicel.aspx

How do I backwash my Hayward Vertical Grid DE filter?
Reply
When the filter pressure rises 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure, the filter must be backwashed. Turn off the pool pump. Rotate the multiport valve to backwash position or slide the slide valve up. When the pump is turned on, the dirty DE and water will flow out to waste. Once the water runs clear, turn off the pump. With a slide valve, push the handle down and start the pump. Once the pump is primed, add the required DE. If using a multiport valve, rotate the handle to rinse. Turn on the pump and let water flow for 20-30 seconds, cleaning out the plumbing lines. Turn off the pump and rotate the valve back to filter. Turn on the pump and once primed add required DE.

I have this model filter for a 20,000gal in ground pool. What is the minimum size pool pump hp I should use when relacing the pump?
Reply
This filter is designed to handle a flow rate of 72 gallons per minute. Not all 1hp pumps have the same flow rate. It varies depending on design. The minimum would be a 3/4hp, but no more than a 1hp.

Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 36 Sq Ft w/o Valve
- which valve can I purchase to use with this filter. Multiport valve or glide valve?
Reply
Brandon- With the DE3620 Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 36 Sq Ft w/o Valve you have a couple options as far as valves, if you want the multiport valve you can use the Vari-Flo Valve 1 1/2" for DE or Vari-Flo Valve 2" for DE and if you want to use a slide valve you can use Valve Ass'y, Slide -2" Skt Wg (sp0410x502s).

Backwashed old filter and removed drain plug to lighten tank for easy lifting.
Removed inlet and outlet connection from multi-valve.
Positioned DE Filter tank so it would line up with multi-valve connections and hand tightened.
Primed filter pump and opened vent valve at top of DE Filter until all air escaped.
Added 4.5 pounds of DE powder thru skimmer slowly.

Pros: Fully compatible Hayward has a great track record for reliabilty
Cons: None
Replaced same size Hayward de filter which was more than 20 years old. Parts were becoming obsolete. I didn't know how much longer I could take it apart and get it back together. The new filter fit perfectly with the existing multi port valve. Can't wait for next season.

Our pool professional recommended this brand to replace our 30 year old DE filter which is no longer manufactured. It was installed 2 days ago and is working well. We also purchased the multiport valve to go with it. Very fast delivery! Ordered on a Thurs. and delivered on the next Tues. Very happy with the price and and the service.

Pros: much more thorough
I replaced a 2-yr old Pentair cartridge style pool filter with the Hayward DE style. Within 24 hrs my water was sparkling, something never achieved with the Pentair (which is why I replaced it after just 2 yrs). I can already tell that I won't need nearly as much chemicals or babysitting of the system to maintain a really clean pool. What a great product!

(5 out of 5 stars) DE pool filter par excellence
Reviewed By: coolblue from Winter Springs, FL ()
I recently purchased a Hayward DE-3620 filter as a replacement for a 10-yr old Hayward DE-3600, and was initially most satisfied with the ability to directly install the new unit in place of the old one without having to make any adjustments whatsoever to the interface connections with the existing vari-flow valve and external piping. Upon first use, I found welcome improvements had been made to the ease of operating the air relief valve and to the pressure gage with a simple means for indicating changes in pressure from the initial setting and when filter cleaning is required. Having just encountered a particularly heavy accumulation of oak pollen and blosom debris that indicated a need to manually clean the filter elements (rather than the more usual backwash routine) I was most impressed with Hayward's changes to the design of the clamp ring and the relative ease and speed with which the top shell and the internal filter elements could be removed. I am pleased to see that Hayward has continued to improve their already great DE filter product line.
