I need to replace my the capacitor on my 1.5HP pool pump. Do you carry the capacitor I need?

Please note that capacitors store an electric charge and should be handled with the utmost caution and care. We do not encourage handling a capacitor without any type of safety measures in place and highly recommend contacting a professional service company for repair/replacement. For those that feel comfortable changing the capacitor here's >How to replace a pool pump capacitor. In order to match up the capacitor you will need more specifications on the capacitor. You will need to match the voltage, the MFD, whether or not the capacitor is a >run or >start type and the actual dimensions of the capacitor body.

I need to replace the start Capacitor on my A O Smith C48K2PA105C5 MOTOR.
It's 115/230 1hp USQ 1102 and the rating are unreadable on the capacitor.
How can I find out what rating I need?

Hi, Unfortunately we do not have what size capacitor is used on the A.O. Smith 3 H.P Square Flange Motor (SQ1302), you will need to provide us the specs off of the old capacitor.

First, as always, turn off the power to the pool pump at your panel and then verify it by using a voltage tester.
Next, remove the two screws holding the cover over the motor.
Remove the clamp over the old capacitor and note the wire placement; then take a screwdriver with a plastic or rubber handle and touch the terminals together (pro tip if you are worried, hold a paper towel between you and the capacitor). This will short out the capacitor and discharge any voltage stored in it. Then with a pair of pliers pull the wire clamps off.
Attach the wires back onto the capacitor (It should have 2 yellow wires on one terminal and a red and white wire on the other).
Put the capacitor back in place with the plastic guard over the terminals and then tighten the clamp.
Put the cover back on, then go turn the main breaker back on.

I removed the motor from from the pump housing. I then removed the cover from my pump motor. Locating the capacitor, I carefully discharged the old capacitor and the new capacitor to prevent shocking. I removed the old cap connections and wired the new cap placing into the same spot. I put the cover back on the motor and reattached the motor to the pump. I plugged in the pump.

Pros: Easy to replace
Cons: Need to respect capacitor shock hazard
My 1.5 hp A.O. Smith (now Century) motor began to start slowly and then not at all; humming and popping the breaker. This capacitor was an easy replacement (three connectors and a screw under the motor cover). The motor now starts instantly.

As a new super pump is about $800 and 90% of the time I’ve found it’s just the start capacitor, folks should honestly just swap it out if your pump is humming on start or slow start

Was in working condition. Had the lowest rating for capacitance when checked for actual rating. It stays in 161 to 165 range though it says till 193 MFD.
