Can the light be changed without draining the pool?
Reply
Yes you can replace the bulb in your pool light with this LED bulb without needing to drain your pool water. You will first need to turn off power to the pool light at your breaker then go to the pool light and remove the pilot screw which is located on the face ring of your light. Once the pilot screw is removed this will allow you to bring your entire light fixture up on to your pool deck where you can then replace the bulb. The replacing of the bulb is as simple as unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in the new bulb. I would also suggest replacing your lights lens gasket when replacing the bulb, the two most popular would be the Hayward Astrolite Lens Gasket and the Pentair Amerlite Lens Gasket. We also have a great Video on How to Replace a Swimming Pool Light Bulb which will walk you through the process.

is there a remote control to stop the changing colors or does it cycle the different colors constantly?
Reply
The light would be controlled through a standard light switch or your pool control system. Flipping your light switch on and off relatively quickly will cycle the light to the next color or next light show. There are 16 modes, 7 modes are fixed colors and 9 modes are rotating color shows.

Can the light be stopped on one particular color? I tried downloading the owners manual and there seems to be a bad link
Reply
Yes the light can be stopped on a color there are 7 fixed colors white, red, green, blue, gold, cyan and violet. You would cycle to the fixed colors by flipping your pool light switch relatively quickly. In addition to the fixed colors there are 9 color shows..... Evening Sea (slow animation of blue and red), Evening rivers (slow animation of green and red), Riviera (slow animation of blue and green, Rainbow (slow animation of all colors), River of Colors (slow animation of all colors followed by Four Seasons), Disco (fast animation followed by Rainbow) and Party (Fast animation followed by River of Colors).

if you just have an ON/OFF switch for the light how does the color change?

What is the correct wattage for lighting equivelent to the existing 12V 300W bulb?
Reply
Hi Dane, I would suggest the 12V 35 Watt Pure Colors LED Pool Bulb as an equivalent replacement to a 12V 300 Watt Bulb.

Brand new pool kit came with a Hayward wet Niche and 120 volt light kit. My "Pool Consultant" informed me that a 120 volt light would not meet code in my area. I ordered this 12 volt color change light and installed it with a transformer. My Electrician installed transformer and wiring to the light J-box.
1. Turn off all breakers to the pool equipment
2. Remove the light assembly from the niche
3. Pull the light assembly up to the deck
4. Loosen the screw on clamp ring until the clamp ring can be removed
5. Carefully pry the gasket/lens assembly away from the stainless steel housing
6. Remove and replace the gasket around the perimeter of the lens, set aside
7. Unscrew the old bulb
8. Install the new LED bulb
9. Lightly lube the gasket and place the lens on the stainless steel housing
10. Replace the clamp ring and tighten the screw
11. Coil up the extra cord into the niche
12. Place light assembly back in the niche and tighten the screw
13. Turn on the breakers and test light operation

Another easy repair. After watching a DIY video on Inyo Pools, I knew this was a project I could handle. First thing you should do is identify the breaker that powers the light and open it to prevent possible harm.
Before opening the pool, while the water was low, I removed the three screws on the rim that attaches the light to the pool. This release the canister so I could work on the light out of the water. After removing the lens, it was just like screwing in a regular light bulb. I purchased an LED light with multiple colors and the suggested new gasket through Inyo Pools.

I had to enter the pool, made more difficult because my Hayward HeatPro heat pump is not operating and the water is still chilly. I removed the Hayward case but found that there had been some water seepage and the outlet corroded. I have not replaced the bulb but, I am looking into getting a new light case to complete the project.

Purchased Intermec 300W transformer from Inyo; installed by a licensed electrician. Removed each light from the niche with a single screw. Layed the fixture on a towel on the pool deck, Removed the clamp from the fixture with a single screw. Screw nuts dissolved as soon as the screw turned. Discovered that the plastic face rims were melted/deformed on both lights. Ordered replacement face rims from Inyo - delivered the next day. Removed the lens and replaced the gasket. Screwed in the new LED bulbs. Added a thin bead of silicone gasket lube. Placed the lens back on the fixture. Fitted the new face rim to the light and aligned the clamp. Replaced the screws and nuts with new stainless steel parts. Reattached the fixture into the niche via the 'hook' on the bottom of the face rim and the screw on the top. Takes a little patience to get the screw to bite, especially in the deep end. New lights look awesome!

(5 out of 5 stars) Great Colors

Pros: Lower cost than any alternative I could find, bright colors, easy to replace old bulb.
Cons: None!
Great colors- bright as I had hoped. Has 16 color programs - but I think I will only use about 4, which are my favorites. Best part is that cost with tax was $160. At my local pool store, they wanted $400 for a color LED light! The company that resurfaced my pool wanted $1000. When I couldn't figure out which light to buy, (fixture was so old, sticker with model number was faded out) I sent Inyo a picture of my light fixture, and they told me which LED light would fit. Great service!

Easy to install. Super fun color change light, although I'm not wild about the red. The green make my water look like Mountain Dew :)

Make sure you read the packaging, the voltage causes 'issues' if you put in the wrong housing. Very bright, fast changing. The only color that is dim is red, but that seems to be the case with all these LEDs. Lots of color changing features and provides great mood lighting.

(5 out of 5 stars) The Light Show is Wonderful to Watch
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
Pool size - 28' x 15.5" Pool finish - Diamond Bright Marlin Blue One single light at the deep end of the pool We love the versatility of the light and 16 programs you can choose from. The light show is wonderful to watch. The LEDs throw light very well to the other end of the pool, with the exception of the red LEDs, which I believe has to do with the red colour wavelength. I would recommend buying up to the 35-watt bulb for a little more money for better overall lighting. Along with the energy saving Led bulbs, which will reduce substantially my operational costs, I feel much better about leaving the pool light on longer. This bulb was installed in an American Products pool light, Model R-100 BC, replacing an old GE 12v 100 watt pool bulb. I would recommend an extra hand compressing down the new gasket as you re-screw in the clips along the rim to prevent cross threading the screws at a slight angle. Other than that I would consider this an easy install for someone who would like to save a little money and DIY. At the local pool supply store, a similar Led Pool bulb would cost me about $300.00, not including the cost of install. Thank you Inyopools.com for all your helpful information and product pricing to make my project possible.
Response From INYOpools.com: Thank you for all the information, photos and tips, Dan, and best of luck with the pool!

(5 out of 5 stars) We Love the Lights
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
The pool is white plaster 34’ x 16’ We have one pool lamp and one spa lamp. We give the lights a 5-star rating. We love the lights. The lights were delivered quickly and the installation went very smooth. We easily and quickly ran through all 16 programs by simply flipping the light switch on and off. Our favorite is fixed color blue. Please see attached photo of the pool and a street view photo of the front of our home - you can see a hint of blue reflection on the house behind the wall.
Response From INYOpools.com: Thank you for the comments, Jeffrey, and love the street view photo!
