What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Hi, I have a 15 yr old Sta Rite Dura Glass II 1.5 hp motor & pump, the motor is shot, bearing making noise. Pump is P4RA6F - 187L. Motor model from nameplate is AO Smith C48L2PA105 Frame 48Y. Manual says the motor for this pump is A100FLL When searching internet it says motor is USQ1152. Is this EE model ??
Reply
Hi Bill, The direct replacement for the C48L2PA105 Duraglas P4RA6F - 187L would be the Standard Efficiency USQ1152 Pool Motor The motor on this page UQC1152, would most definitely work as a replacement for your Duraglas P4RA6F - 187L and it would be the energy-efficient model. So the USQ1152 is the standard efficiency model and the UQC1152 is the energy-efficient model.

I have a 1999 Pac-Fab Ultra-Flow pool pump and the motor has been very loud this year - It looks like I need to replace the motor but I can't find anything online with the exact replacement motor - the motor has a Part # 10-177450-03, is 1 1/2 HP with SF 1.1, it is 7.8 - 7.4/14.8 amps, 208/230 - 115 v and 3450 RPM. It looks like your replacement motor UQC1152 would work, but not sure?

Hi David, you would require the 1 HP Full Rate Ultra Flo Motor you currently have a 1-1/2 HP Up Rate Motor which is exactly the same as 1 HP Full Rate Motor. We have an article explaining Why a 1 HP Full Rate Motor is the same as 1-1/2 HP Up Rate Motor which may be helpful to read. When replacing your motor we would also suggest an Ultra Flo Tune Up Kit.

Can I use this replacement motor?

Hi Matt, The A.O. Smith Energy Efficient 1 1/2 H.P Square Flange Up Rate Motor (UQC1152) can be used to as a replacement if the pump you have uses a square flange motor. To be certain if the UQC1152 motor and to get you the correct seal we will need to know the manufacture and model of the pump housing.

I have a Whisperflo 1.5 HP square flange pump motor B2854. Will this motor work on my pump even though it is listed as 48y while mine is a 56y? And is this the best energy saving motor short of upgrading to a two-speed or vsp pump? We are about to install a solar system on a second story roof and the rep said to go with a standard duty pump motor.
Reply
Hello John, The UQC1152 Energy Efficient A.O. Smith 1 1/2 H.P Square Flange Up Rate Motor will be the most energy efficient option short of going to a dual or variable speed motor. The only difference between 48y and 56y is that the diameter of the barrel on the motor is 1 inch smaller on a 48Y as opposed to the 56Y.

What would be a 2-speed or variable speed pump replacement for a 1.5 hp single speed pump. : K48L2PA105A6. UST1152.

Hi Brian, The 2-Green 1 HP Full Rate Dual Speed w/ Digital Controller (B2982T) would be the 2-Speed replacement or the V-Green 1.65 HP Variable Speed Motor (ECM16SQU) would be the variable speed replacement base off of your current motor.

Will there be any problems with replacing a K48L2PA105A6 with a B2982T given that the former is a 48 and the latter is a 56?
Reply
Hi Brain, You will not have any issues replacing the K48L2PA105A6 with the B2982T. You will just have to remove the spacer from the motor stand so that the B2982T motor sit properly if your pump currently have one.

I replaced our 12 year old motor with a UQC1152 Emergy Efficient A.O. Smith 1 1/2 H.P. motor from your company 2 1/2 years ago. The old one was getting very noisy so the new one was great. But now, after only 2 1/2 years the newer one is making some horrible noise. Is there anything that can be done about that other than replacing the motor again? I would think this one should have lasted at least 10 years.

can I use this motor for part #7-177450-03. My old motor says 1.5hp on the pump, but the replacement on your website has 1 hp on the pump?
Reply
Technically you could use this motor but it is a 48 frame which means that it is skinnier than your original hence may not rest on your pump motor stand. The model that comes up as a 1 hp has a total horse power of 1.5. The label just can be confusing. The correct model replacement is the B841.

You can use this model motor however may not rest on the pump base the same way as the original which would be model B841. The seal kit for your pump is actually based on the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor attaches to. If you cannot locate that information you can always email us some images to upload@inyopools.com so we can review and further advise.
