I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
Reply
Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

This motor does come with the small rubber slinger gasket that goes over the shaft but it does not come with the shaft seal or pump gaskets. We would strongly recommend the Whisperflo Shaft Seal and Gasket Kit when replacing your motor.

Hello, just replaced my old motor with this one. Claned the flters and added DE. When I first started the motor, I was running at 15 psi. When I tried to vaccum, there was weak suction and pressure went to 20 psi. There's very weak jet at the inlet too. I took the hose off and just ran it off the skimmer and it's still weak. What happened?

Most commonly that is due to the bearings failing however if there is significant corrosion then it may not be worth repairing. I would suggest inspecting first and if the face of the motor and its body is in good condition to then consider replacing the bearings.

Hi Christopher, You will actually need this B2661 Replacement Motor this motor is a 3/4 HP Full Rate Motor where your Motor is a 1 HP Up Rate Motor but this motors are identical as they have the same True HP as the Full Rate Motor has a higher service factor. The math works as follows 1 HP Up Rate x 1.25 Service Factor = 1.25 True HP and 3/4 HP Full Rate x 1.67 Service Factor = 1.25 True HP. You will also need a Pentair WhisperFlo Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Hi Jason, The direct replacement for your motor will be this motor here http://www.inyopools.com/Products/03000017039421.htm if you want to go Energy Efficient then a variable speed 1.65 HP shown here is your best option http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00200017074679.htm if you go the variable motor option then we would suggest upgrading your impeller to this 1.5 HP impeller http://www.inyopools.com/Products/07501352019651.htm so you can take advantage of the higher HP range of this motor. Regardless if you go with the single-speed motor or the variable speed motor you will also need this seal kit here http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00500005003532.htm?Keywords=gokit32

Hi Jason, I'm glad I looked at this again as my original suggestion was on a Whisperflo and you have a SuperFlo. You will still need the same motor(s) but the seal kit will be this SuperFlo Seal Kit which will work on salt. And you will need this Diffuser and this Impeller if you go with the Variable Speed. Please note these are different parts then suggested in the original reply.

Typically with a variable speed motor you can expect an operational cost savings between 50% - 75% compared to a single speed motor. We put together this article which goes more in depth on the operational cost savings http://www.inyopools.com/Blog/how-much-does-my-pool-pump-cost-to-run/ Please note the variable speed motor can only be wired 230V

I have the WhisperFlow pump P/N 011513 as shown in the first image, with the motor, WFE-4/011513, shown in the second image. The system is making loud noise, perhaps like a bad bearing, so I assume the motor. The sound is like that at https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/pentair-whisperflo-loud-noise.130687/.
Do you agree that this is the motor?
What will it cost to replace?
Thx.
Hi John, Yes this sounds like bad bearings and we would suggest replacing your motor. You would require this B2841 Replacement Pool Motor You will also need a Pentair Whisperflo Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Thanks. Is it possible to replace with a variable-speed pump?
Reply
Hi John, yes you could upgrade to this Variable Speed Replacement Motor this will work with the pump in your photos. We did write this article which shows the Cost Savings between a Variable Speed Pump and Single Speed Pump which you may find helpful. One note.. if you do have an automated control system like the IntelliTouch, EasyTouch, AquaLink, ProLogic, etc.. then that system will power the pump on and off and then the onboard digital controller would take over from there as far as the speeds go. You would program all of the speeds directly on the motor controller.

I have exact same motor (Pentair Whisperflo 011513 w/ 1 HP 1.65 S.F. motor 177450) and need to replace it. I have Pentair EasyTouch 4 controller. Is it possible w/ this variable motor and EasyTouch controller: If in Spa mode or Spillway mode, always run the pump at full speed. If in Auto mode and it's on Pool (ie. timed pool circulation), then allow downstep to low speed Or do I need to upgrade to IntelliFlo so full EasyTouch control (which I wouldn't bother doing). Or stay single speed.

If you replace the current single speed with the V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM16SQU it is compatible with the automated system. The Tune Up Kit Pentair/Purex Whisperflo - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT for salt pools.

I need to replace my existing WhisperFlo 1HP motor. This motor/pump supports a waterfall feature. Would it be more efficient and save electricity costs over time by replacing this single speed pump/motor with a variable speed pump?
I suppose the question is which is more energy efficient? A single-speed 1HP pump or a variable speed pump running at 1HP?
Reply
Hello, so a variable speed motor replacement will always be much more energy-efficient than a single speed. It can potentially save up to 80 percent of the electrical consumption compared to your current motor. We would just need to know your current motor part, model, or catalog number to confirm a compatible replacement for you.

is this the same as the 355020s

Hi Irvin, unfortunately, no these are different model motors. Basically, the 071314S is stronger than the 355020S by approximately .5 hp. because it is a 1 HP full rated motor. Here is a blog that we put together that can further explain those details called "How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated"

Hello Rick, based on the information provided we would suggest a new pump. To replace yours we would recommend the Whisperflo Pump 1 1/2 HP - WF-26 and using the Pump Union, 2"NPT x 2"SLIP - 11201-0154 for an easy install. Once motors start failing quickly there could be issues with the pump housing, seal plate, impeller that is adding stress to the motor or might have a defect causing water to enter the motor.
