I have a Hayward pro series sand filter model no s244s with a six position valve. The valve needs to be replaced or repaired . The label on the valve with the model # have wore off, not sure if this is the correct valve. Please advise

Hi James, You will need to take a look to see if the plumbing going into the valve is 1-1/2" or 2" there should be some digital writing on the white pvc pipe indicating your pipe size. The replacement valve for 1-1/2" pvc is part number SP0710X62. The valve for 2" pvc is SP0715X62.

I have a triton tr60 sand filter with a hayward vari flow valve model 710. It seems to wear out prematurely the spider gasket and is hard to turn. I was thinking I should replace this assembly. Maybe the coil spring and other parts are worn to help facilitate this problem. Am I thinking right or do I not know how to put a simple looking gasket in correctly? PS We bought house in 1992 and it was here then..Also if needed , do I have the correct one in this diagram?

Hi Greg, I think you are on the exact path here with replacing the handle assembly. This would give you the complete new top half of the valve. You may want to also purchase the Hayward 710 Cover O-ring shown as Key #6 in the 710 Valve Parts Diagram as this o-ring is not included in the cover assembly. Based on the information you provided this would be the correct cover assembly for your valve.

How do I replace this? I broke the handle - SP-710X-F off the filter. Do I simply unscrew the 6 screws, take out the old, pop in the new and screw it back up? Seems too easy. Is there more to it? And do I need to also purchase the O ring? Because I have no idea what that's all about. My local pool store wants to replace the whole top piece of the filter including the pvc pipe outlets. Part cost alone is $120. Seems a lot for a broken off handle.
Reply
Beth, To replace it, you would turn off the pump, release the pressure in the tank then unscrew the 6 screws and bolts that hold the key assembly in place. Once you have removed the old one, you will want to inspect the spider gasket and replace if it necessary. Installation would require lining up the tab (one screw hole has a flat side on the cover assy) then installing and tightening the screws and bolts.

it will depend on where it is leaking. When the new gasket was installed, was it installed groove side up?

Another words this replacement would be 180 degrees or upside down. What’s the deal ? Can I stall this be installed 180 degrees opposite of the original? Haven’t done one before. Thanks
Hi, Dennis. Yes, you can install the replacement cover. The valve will work just fine.

There are two gaskets that this assembly can used based on the year range of the valve that you have. Valves manufactured from the year range 1976 to current use gasket part number 4700-10X and valves manufactured from the year range 1969-75 use gasket part number 4700-10.

I have a Hayward SP710 that leaks out of the shaft seal. I would like to replace this part but your measurements don’t match what mine are. i.e. the screw holes measured 3.25” center to center, yours are 3” according to your schematic. Help!
I cannot read your label to verify the full valve model number, the SPX0710XBA17 installed with the Hayward Multiport Vari-Flow 1-1/2" SP-710X, SP-712, SP-711 1976-Current for the valves that are the black color. You are welcome to reply back with a clear image of the valve label showing the P/N number on it and we will verify the correct key cover assembly.

Thanks in advance!
