What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Hi Rob, The 1.5 HP Full Rate Two Speed Motor W/ Timer - Round Flange (B977T, B2977T) would be the replacement dual speed motor for p/n 7-193633-24.

I have this motor, however I have a crack somewhere in the Hayward pump but I am unable to find a model number to replace the part. Can you tell me which Hayward pump this motor would sit in? Also since I have this motor is there a better more efficient motor I could replace it with?

Hi Shannon, We can not identify the pump model off of the motor. If you can send us photos of the pump housing we can identify it that way.

I have this motor and the impeller brok off at the end of the stem. How do I find the right impeller to replace the impeller?
Reply
Hi Peter there should be a part # embossed into the impeller, if you can find this then just enter the part # into our search box and the impeller should come up. You can also email us a photo of your pump and motor label and that will allow us to determine which impeller you require.

I have an old AO Smith-labeled filter motor coupled to a 1MF-S pump with 1.5 HP impeller, 40k gal pool. The motor plate states 1.5 HP (1.10 SF), and Part 7-184949-22, which should be either 1.5 or 1.65 THP depending on interpretation. That part number seems to cross-reference to the B654 motor, which is only 1.4 THP. Based on THP matching, I would have used this B129 motor with 1.95 THP instead. Will the B129 work with this application?

Hi, I have a AO Smith, Part# 7-184950-22 motor currently which is connected to Jacuzzi Magnum Force Pump. Will the B129 fit this unit. I am being told by my pool tech that it will but I have noticed that some of the specs are not 100% matching. For example the Amps don't match perfectly and the SF is showing 1.5 where I believe this motor is a 1.3 SF. I have never had such a hard time finding a match.........

I have a B129 motor which hums, but won't start. I have tried turning it off and on and it did finally start after several tries, but not any more. The propellor does turn. I assume it needs a new capacitor. What would be the correct part number to order?

I have a Jandy Stealth JHPU2.0 pump from 2004. Existing Motor is 7-193633-24 but doesn't state HP or SF on it. Need a new motor. Have heard B129 or the B230SE is correct?
Also considering going to two speed. What would be the right motor and any issues to be concerned with?
Reply
Yes those two motors are correct single speed replacements and the dual speed we would recommend is the B977T. There are no real issues to be concerned with on the dual speed. Just getting used to the control on the motor itself.

This is the model motor that is on my rather old Hayward Superpump II. Is there a similar fit motor whose effective horsepower would be 1HP versus ~2HP here? I'd be good with a dual speed as well.
Reply
Hi Rob, If you currently have the B129 motor on your Hayward Super II then you can down to a B127 Replacement Motor which has a true HP of 1.13. If you go this route you would need to replace your impeller with this 1 HP Super II Impeller. The reason for needing the new impeller is your 2 HP impeller would overwork this motor. When replacing your motor we would also suggest this Hayward Super II Tune Up Kit. If you wanted to go dual speed you would need this Dual Speed Replacement Motor along with the same impeller and seal kit suggested earlier. The smaller HP will have a lower output of water so if you have spa jets or solar then you may want to stay with the larger HP.

Hi, Ken. The shaft access is located directly in the center of the rear end of the motor as shown in this image >B129 Rear View.

Hi, Chawn this would be the proper replacement motor for your B129 but to determine the impeller you require then we would need to know the make and model of your pump. Could you send us a few photos showing a wide shot of your complete pump to include where the pipes come in and out of the pump? Also, could you supply some photos which show both your pump and filter as this would help us suggest a filter as well? You can simply reply back to this email with your photos.

I’m replacing the motor on my pool. The motor on now is the A.O Smith Cat. B129, 1.5 hp. The pump is a Hayward 3010x. Does this motor bolt up directly or does it need an adapter? Also, do I need the tune-up kit. The motor makes a high pitched squeal when running and does not pump water. Does that sound like the motor?
Reply
Hello Larry- Yes, the loud squeal is a motor bearing issue. I would highly recommend changing the motor. The Motor 56j Thrd Full 1.5 Hp (b129) will bolt right up to your pump without the need of any adapters. You will also need the Tune Up Kit Hayward Super II - GOKIT2.

is it required to be the seal?
Reply
I believe that you are referring to needing to change the main shaft seal. If so, then yes it is recommended to be changed. You will need to know the model name or number of the pump housing that the motor actually bolts to in order to cross reference that seal. If you cannot locate that information then you can email images of that housing to upload@inyopools.com so we can try and identify that model for you.

Hi Brewman, You could go with this 2.7 HP Variable Speed Replacement Motor and you would not need to replace any other parts on your pump except the seal kit, which is always suggested to replace when replacing your motor. You could possibly go with the 1.65 HP Variable Speed Replacement or the 1 HP Variable Speed Replacement but you would need to change out your impeller to do this. Could you click the reply link below and let us know which Hayward Pump you have (i.e. Super Pump, Super II, Tri Star, North Star, Max Flo, etc..) this will allow us to suggest the proper replacement impeller.

Hello. I have a 2004 Jandy setup. I want to replace my pump and I'm pretty sure the exact replacement is your P129. Attaching pictures of current pump. I understand I'll need to replace the Shaft Seal. Anything else? (o-rings, etc.) What I want is the same single speed 1.5 HP, 3450rpm but I'd like a quieter more efficient running pump that matches what I have. Hoping maybe this P129 is newer and quieter? Do you suggest something different? Not wanting the variable speed types. Thanks!
Hi, Robert. This B129 is the best replacement option available. You will also need to get the Jandy JHP Series Tune Up Kit - GOKIT77 to complete the installation.

thanks. One more question. Does this new pump come with a cap on the rear? Something to protect the wiring plate from rain? Or can I purchase that separately?

Yes the motor end cap is included with the motor, you might also consider a Motor Cover to give extra protection from the elements.

Hi, Kathi. The filter is sized based on the flow rate of the pump. In order to calculate the pump's flow rate, you will need to know the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of your pool.

Hi Gil, the B129 motor is a direct replacement for your old one but we are unable to ship it to you due to the Title 20 regulations in California. Your options are the dual-speed B2977 motor or the variable-speed ECM27CU motor. Send us information or pictures to upload@inyopools.com to let us know what the model of the pump is that the motor attaches to so we can recommend a new motor shaft seal or tune-up kit.
