Why should I purchase the heavy duty seal?
Reply
The heavy duty shaft seal features carbon graphite, stainless steel, and Viton rubber. The properties of this seal contribute to the resistance of chemical corrosion. This is the best choice for salt chlorine generators or ozonators.

Hi, will this seal work with older 2002-2007 Northstar pumps? I have a model SP4015X20NS and would like to select this seal over the hayward seal because I use a salt chlorine generator and an ozonator. Thanks!

Hi Stefan, The correct Shaft Seal for your Northstar Pump 200-2007 will be the Seal Assembly (1998-2007) (SPX4000SA2).

Hi, Nancyjean. Unfortunately, you will need to provide us with the pump housing model or name in order for us to confirm which shaft seal will be required.

My Pump-1 1/2 Hp, Blue Haven Max, Item # SP3210X152BH was making an oscillating noise, not a steady hum, so I pulled the motor off the pump and noticed the defuser ring was on backwards. It scored the impeller, so I'm replacing some of the parts. What parts should I replace, and will the heavy duty shaft seal work with this pump. Also, can I use a larger impeller to make the pump move more water, or what can I do to make it more efficient? Can a 2 speed motor be used on this system?
Reply
Hi, Richard. You will need to replace the Impeller - SPX3210C, Impeller Ring - SPX3021R along with this Heavy Duty Shaft Seal will work with your existing pump and motor. You can increase the impeller size, but you will have to replace the motor to match also. Yes, you can use a dual speed motor - SPX3210Z2MER.

I have an old Hayward Northstar pump. I just bought a new motor and it came with the wrong shaft seal. The motor is a Century ST1152. I think the shaft is 5/8 inch. What is the right seal kit?

Hello Christopher. The motor shaft seal is specific to the manufacturer/model of the pump and not the motor. The Hayward NorthStar SP4000 Series Pump has several shaft seal options, all dependant on the year of pump manufacture. In addition to serial number identification for the manufactured year, there are visible physical differences that will assist in proper identification. Attached please find exploded parts diagrams for the NorthStar Series Pumps. Note the differences in pump lid and wet end appearance.
