Can you use this product to stop a leak in a vinyl liner pool?
Reply
This product will stop a pin hole leak in a vinyl liner pool if the leak is at the floor of the pool. The chemical is heavier than water so it will sink to the bottom.

How do I use Fix a Leak?
Reply
Depending on the type of leak you are looking to repair, there are certain steps you must take before and after using the product. If you are using Fix-A-Leak to seal a pinhole leak in a pool liner you will want to set your filter vale to recirculate. If you don't have a filter valve on your filter then you can remove the filter element from the filter. Once this has been done you can slowly pour the product through the skimmer. The product has very simple instructions on the container. If you want to see Fix-A-Leak in action, feel free to check out this > >video.

How long after putting the Fix A Leak in my above ground pool can we swim?
Reply
After the product is used, it should be allowed to cure for 24-48 hours depending on the leak. It would be best to go swimming before the Fix-A-Leak is used. If that's not possible, I would recommend waiting 12 hours before resuming swimming.

I have a stand-alone hot tub
that has a small leak in a pvc pipe to a jetthat is under spray form could this product work?
Reply
Yes this product can potentially seal small leaks of up to a 1/8 inch diameter in pools and spas including plumbing lines. If the product does does not seal the leak then it is likely that the leak is more sever than you realize.

I have a pool that has a rock wall bordering the perimeter of the pool. The rocks are naturally porous and therefore some water is lost thru the rocks. Will FIX A LEAK coat the vertical surface of the rocks to stop the water from penetrating thru the rocks?
Reply
Hello Joe - The Fix-A-Leak will work if the holes are an 1/8" in diameter or smaller.

Have a pool with a hot tub that water falls into the pool when the hot tub is not in use recirculating. The exterior of the spa is showing some cracked tile and the spa is leaking thru the concrete and tile and efforvessing on the exterior tile surface. I can isolate the spa and recirculate the stop leak material in only the spa, will this stop the leaking concrete shell of the spa?
Thanks

Hello Dennis - This product will work if the crack/hole is smaller than 1/8".

how much does it take for a pool with 33000 gallons of water,do you put in the skimmers run pump and bypass filters
Reply
Delaney, You will need to add 48oz of the Marlig Fix A Leak. Yes, with the filter bypassed or removed, this product is to be slowly added through skimmer or in front of any other suction intake.

I followed all the instructions and ended up using a 32 oz bottle for a 10,000 gallon pool. 48 hrs later, the leak has slowed down by at least 50% but not all the way yet. Can I do a second treatment? By the time I order and receive a second bottle, it will be a week after the first application? Will that work? Please advise.
Reply
Hi Fares, Yes a second application of Fix A Leak should slow or eliminate the leak even further.

I bought a qt of Fix a leak as you suggested. I have a Starite System 3 Modular Media Filter. Do I need to remove the cartridges from the filter before adding the Fix a leak to my skimmer? I'm a little confused by the directions as I have neither sand nor DE filter system.
Reply
Hi Mary, Yes you would need remove your cartridges before adding fix a leak to your skimmer.

Tried this.Seemed to work at first. But on day 2 I started to run my pool as usual (with solar heating)and I started losing water again.Maybe I didn't let it cure long enough? Can you explain what one should do during the 24-48 hr cure period? Do I turn everything off for 24-48 hours? Or keep circulating through the filter for 24-48 hours? Or can I just resume my usual routine(which I did and water loss returned):cleaner for 4 hours, then skimmer and solar for 5 hours? Should I skip solar heat?
Reply
Continue to recirculate water until the leak has stoppedMark level of water in pool and check for 2-3 days to determine if the leak has stopped. After the leak has stopped and given the proper time to cure do not run pump for 48 hours. as well doing this leave solar off the complete time

I have a 48" above ground pool leaks we know it's along seams on bottom but not sure of which ones. I am filling pool about 2-3 inches and adding in your seal a leak - my question is how do I know I've got all the chemical out before filling and letting kids swim - worried of the warnings on bottle.
Reply
Tammy, Once the product has been cured (approx. 48 hours), you can resume swimming.
Reply
Do you pour it through skimmer? And I just put new sand - does it hurt sand? Also do I run it on filter as normal operation unit leaks stop and then leave off for 48 hours?

The best explanation I can find it on the Fix A Leak Web Page iteself. Please click on the link and it is the first bit of information on the top left of the page.

Steve, This is the only liquid sealant that we have. In order to use this product, you will need to know where the leak is. Have you done a leak test?

Hi Mike, Unfortunately the Marlig Fix A Leak 1 Quart can not be used in your pool since you have an in-floor cleaning system.

What is the recommended rpm setting on my pool pump while the pool is running with the product circulating?
Reply
It is intended to work at the normal speed of a single speed pump, which is 3400 RPM. But if you have a variable speed pump, I would not go below 2000 RPM. Just know, the more the water circulates, the better chance of the leak getting fixed faster.

I have a 60,000 liters (salt water) pool. would Marlig Fix A Leak 1 Quart work on a salt water pool?
Reply
Vin, Marlig Fix-A-Leak is saltwater safe. With a pool of 60,000 Liters (16,000 Gallons,) I would suggest using 2 quarts of Marlig to ensure a proper seal.
Reply
I have an fiberglass pool and after letting it drain down with the system off I see it stopped 2 inches below both outlets and the waterfall outlet, seeming to tell me the leak is in the suction side.. If I put the product in the skimmer and turn the system on, doesnt that just pull the product away from the crack or leak and not allow it to actually flow thru the leak to seal it.
Reply
Jerry- Once you add the Fix-A-Leak to your water, it will continue to circulate through the skimmer. This will help it build up and seal the leak.
Reply
Wouldn't this product cause problems clogging / sealing spring return valves, heat exchangers, jet nozzles, pumps etc? The spa part supplier I purchased parts from said don't use it as no telling what havoc it could wreak.
Reply
Kev,The mfg has rated this unit safe for gas heaters. Before using this product, you are to bypass the filter media. Sand filters you set the valve to re circulate. You are to remove cartridge DE elements from filter tank, then proceed to circulate through empty tank. Feel free to review the directions on the mfg website.

Is Marlig designed to stop leaks through hairline cracks in a concrete in-ground pool?
If the Marlig will plug the cracks, will the barracuda type pool cleaner suck the Marlig back out of the cracks over time?
Reply
Miles, Fix A Leak coats all surfaces that it comes in contact with so it will work with hairline cracks in concrete. As for the cleaner, as long as you allow the product to cure properly, the suction of the cleaner should not disturb the product.

Hi Dillon, The Marlig Fix A Leak can work in this situation, just depends where the crack is located.

I have an in-ground concrete swimming pool. I am losing water and it doesn't seem to be the skimmers, any plumbing or light fixtures. I stop losing water once the water level is 4" below skimmers and 1" above all return lines. Basically 1" above all plumbing lines. It appears the pool shell is leaking but I can't figure out where it is leaking from. Is there a reasonable way to find and fix this leak.
Reply
In this case since you have ruled out the majority of the main cases of leaks it would be in your wisest interest to get a leak detection crew with the proper equipment to test all lines for pressure fluctuations. Likely an underground leak somewhere.

Can this be applied under water? I have a couple pin holes on the 2nd step going into my pool and would like to get them fixed when the warm weather gets here. Our pool is over 30 years old and my pool store said it is very costly to replace them.

For the type of leak patching that you are referring to I would recommend the Dynamite pool patch.

how much fix a leak do I need for 100 meters of water pool
Reply
Hello Norman, This product fills holes up to 1/8 in diameter. You would use 4 oz per 250 gallons or 1qt for pools up to 22,000 gallons. 100 cubic meters is equivalent to 26,417 gallons, so you would need at least two bottles of Marlig Fix-a-Leak.

I believe I have a leak in my bottom drain line that goes to filter. I have the line exposed. What will happen to fix a leak product if I just pour it into the line? Will it just go to the bottom of the line into pool or will it fix leak on the way? At this time I have cut several lines to pressure test and cannot run filter. Thanks
Reply
Hello Mike, Per the manufacturers instructions , this product is added to the skimmer or in front of a suction intake, with the pump running. The product must maintain circulation until the leak has stopped. You would not be able to us this product effectively if the pool water is not circulating.

Hello. I have a 15 x 30 concrete diamond bright finished inground pool. I was told I have a leak in one of the PVC lines coming from my pool pump under the concrete patio to the pool. I am losing about 3 inches of water every couple of days. I have two questions. One question is do you think your product would work not knowing how big the whole or crack in the pipe is? next if I use the product and try it and it does not work will it harm anything else in the pool lines pump filter etc.?
Reply
Thank you for your questions. 1. It is very likely this product will repair your leak, but it is possible the crack is too large to repair this way. You are taking a gamble so I could not guarantee you would see the desired results. 2. I recommend reading the product instructions carefully so you understand how to apply this product. If followed correctly, there will be no damage to your pool or equipment.

I used a bottle in my 410 gallon spa. It has slowed the leak but not stopped it. It has been in for two days with pump running for 30 minutes 4 times per day. Should I drain and see if it sets up or should I try running another 32 oz. bottle of fix a leak through system. I ran the pump on high for an hour when I first put product in spa. Then again am I waisting my money and time. Thanks

HI Walt, If one application has slowed the leak then another could seal it but you will have to let it circulate continuously.

My 450 gallon spa has a slow leak, I'm interested in using fix-a-leak on it, my question is what pumps should I run during the initial leak fixing period? I have 2 big pumps to run the jets which generate high pressure and one small circulation pump. Also do I need to drain the spa after the treatment? Thanks.

You will just need to use the pump the does the circulating and will run it continuously for 24 hours. Circulating it continuously will help the solution find the leak.

I have a 500 gal attached to pool, gunnite spa with a slow main drain leak. My idea is to re add water to the spa, heat to 70 degrees and turn the pump on low recirculate just to the spa before targeting the main drains with the Fix a leak. How long do I keep it running? How long should it be off? When do I turn it back on and when can I up the pressure back to normal? Should I maintain the temp the same during the whole process? Thanks.

Good afternoon Stu, What type of filter do you have? If you have a cartridge filter than great. You will need to take out the element, Put the pool in spa mode, Add 8 ounces of Marlig, and run pool non stop for 24-48 hours.
Reply
I treated my attached gunite spa with Fix a Leak, I thought with complete success. It held the completely full spa for 60 hours without any water loss. Now after a week under normal operation, I am beginning to see the level slowly go down. About 1/2 inch in less than 24 hrs. I guess I need to re treat and hopefully re- seal what ever is leaking. Any thoughts? Thanks, Stu.

Good morning Stuart, Sometimes on the size of the leak it will need to be retreated. If it doesn't work on the second treatment . The size of the leak will be to large and you would have to possibly look into a leak detection company.

I have an approx 16k gal unground pool...Would I just put this into the skimmer and run the pump or would I have to drain the pool.
Reply
Hello Michael- Here is a link to the Fix-a-Leak website that outlines the instructions for treating your pool with this product. Please read the instructions before using this product. This product needs to be circulated when added so you do not turn off the pool. You will want to remove the filter (cartridge/D.E. grids) before adding. Fix-a-Leak is a heavy product and needs to be circulated every 4-6 hours with a brush or a pool cleaner vacuum.

Will this product stop a slow leak on cedar hot tub between floor & staves? I do not have a filter or pump either. Tub was leaking all around bottom but has stoped except slow leak in six inch space.

I would recommend draining the hot tub and patching the leak and then if it is still leaking use the fix a leak to take care of the miniscal leaks. Six inches is asking a lot for a liquid solution like that.

I have a 25,000 gallon in ground vinyl pool that is salt water. I lose a 1/4" to 1/2"total per day, and I cannot find any visual leaks. I understand that if it is a 1/8" of less in an underground pipe it will fix it on the return side. What about the suction side? I it happens to be in the vinyl of the pool will it find it.?
Reply
Hi, Richard. In order to get this product to fix a suction leak, you must reverse the flow of water, to force the material through the leak under pressure. Preferably 5-10 psi. until the leak has stopped. That is because in most cases suction lines only leak water when the filter pump is shut off. Normal circulation will simply draw FIX-A-LEAK away from the leak and if the pump is shut off the material will simply not get to the leak.

I think i might try this. I believe it is leaking on the suction side. How do I reverse water?

How do you control the pressure to "preferably 5-10 psi"?
