What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

will a flo master XP2 pump by aqua-flo fit this motor?
Reply
Danny,As far as bolting up to the XP2 pump, yes both frame sizes of motor and pump are a 48Y frame. Because I do not know the horsepower or specs of the actual pump itself, I wouldn't be able to confirm if this motor will run properly with the pump, though.

Information of my jacuzzi pump,

Also, water exits from side of impeller not top.

Hi Leo, None of the info provide allowed me to cross reference it to a specific Flo-Master Pump. The FMHP pump does have a side discharge but I'm not sure if this motor is the correct one. If you can send us a photo of the motor label I will be able to confirm if this is the correct motor.

Hi Bill, We would need the manufacture and model of the pump wet end in order to find out which shaft seal is needed for that pump.

This is one of the signs that the bearings are going bad in a motor. To confirm the bearing part numbers for that model motor you would need to touch base with A.O. Smith at (800) 262-6484.

Do you provide an impeller replacement for a magnatek Century Pool/Spa motor (7-182895-02)?

In order to cross-reference the correct seals that you may need, you will need to provide us with the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor attaches to. If you cannot locate that information then you can email us an image of the housing to upload@inyopools.com so we can assist in identifying that model.

I have a hot tub that I had to have the pump repaired. The pump is a Magnatek 7-182895-02 that I had rebuilt because the bearings were froze up. Upon hooking it back up it is kicking the gfi off when I turn the pump on. Is it possible that they put the 2 wires down on incorrect pins? It is being run as a 120 volt system with only 3 wires from the control panel. They are white, black and green. Any suggestions that you may have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi, Michael. It is possible that the motor could be wired incorrectly, or the motor is bad. You can use our Pool Motor Troubleshooting Blog to find and correct the issue.

I need the wet end to go with Century Spa motor 186887. Which one is compatible?
Reply
So there is no actual one wet end model that this motor can attach to. You will want to try and locate a wet end model name or number. Most often that model number will be on a label somewhere on the wet end housing. You may also find a part number molded onto the basket which may serve as a clue.

i have a 2.0 hp bn 35 motor, will a 2.0 hp bn 40ss replace my motor
Reply
Hello, with some of these thru-bolt series motors, the labeled horsepower on them is not the true horsepower so for your BN35 you will want to use the BN35V1. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. Could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.

My current motor is a 2HP but you have noted a 1.0 hp for replacement? Is this a typo, maybe?
Reply
Your motor is not a true 2 HP motor, as noted by the "SPL" in parentheses behind it. The SPL stands for Special which just means they have inflated the HP number on the label. If you see a motor rated as a 4 HP SPL, it is more likely a 1.5 or 2 true HP. In your case, the 2 HP SPL is actually a 1 HP

I see this pump is the replacement for the 7-184242-03. how about an 7-184242-02

Hello Gary. The critical numbers in the Century Motors Part Number, as identified on the motor label, are the middle six digits of the x-xxxxxx-xx part number format. The Century motor 7-184242-03 shares the identical motor specifications as the 7-184242-02. The Century Magnetek Thru-Bolt Motor model BN40SS is the replacement motor for motor part number 184242.
