Can you replace single speed pump motor with dual speed pump motor?
Reply
Yes but you can't go with a higher HP than the single speed motor. For example if you have a 1 HP single speed you cannot go with a 1.5 HP dual speed motor; you would be able to use a 1 HP dual speed motor. Customer would need to purchase a toggle switch or timer to switch from high speed to low speed.

I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.

What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.Â

Hi, We will have to know what model or p/n of the 2 Speed Toggle Switch that you have operating that motor. If you're not sure you can replace the entire cover with the 2 Speed Toggle Switch (18313301).

I am looking for a 50 cycle motor for my 1.5 hp Pentair Opti Flow pump.

Hello Andrea, I found the Pentair Optiflo Pump - 3/4 to 1 1/2 HP Parts breakdown. In the motor section (#15) the single speed replacement for your pump is the 1.5 H.P 230/115V Thru Bolt Motor (BN35). I was not able to find reference to any additional 50 cycle motor. (There is also a 1 1/2 HP 2 Speed 115V Thru Bolt Motor available as well part #BN50)

I'm looking to replace my motor for my waterway pump. I have a A.O. Smith motor HP 1.5 - .18 SPL, MODEL # PH2150-3R, CAT # BN37, PART # 7-177782-03, FR R48Y, VOLTS 115, AMPS 11.0/2.9, TWIST LOCK CORD

Hi Jeff, The BN37 motor is the correct motor for the PH2150-3R pump. The "SPL" does not reference the actual hp of the pump.

Pros: Does what it should - well constructed.
Cons: Little bigger (about 1.5" higher) than what I replaced/the web picture is different than what I received.
The website made it easy to identify the correct replacement motor and order. The motor was a fit, form, functional replacement and worked for the application. The new motor arrived in good condition - not damaged. It was easy to install - the back end of the shaft accommodates a 7/16 wrench which can be used to tighten whatever is attached to the threaded end.
