How much money can I save with a variable speed pump?

The amount of money that a pool owner can save will vary greatly. Using this guide will help you get the most out of your variable speed pool pump.

I have a 12,000 gallon pool. the pump location is 10 ' from the in ground pool and at the same elevation as the bottom of the pool.I am using a 27 " diameter filter. Approximately what is the minimum speed I can run the pump to get one turnover every 24 hours.

Running this pump at 600 RPM for 24 hrs will turn over your pool 2 times. With your size pool and whether you have 1.5" or 2" plumbing around 600-700 RPM will be enough once the pump is primed. The pump will run at 3000 RPM to prime then fall to set RPM.

I'd like to combine this pump with a heat pump, but see the maximum flow rate on the heat pump is only 70 GPM. If the Hayward pump pumps more than 70 GPM, how does everything work properly? It seems that either the heat pump won't heat properly if the flow is too high, or the pump/filter won't filter properly if the flow is too low. The filter I'm looking at says 120 GPM. Please help!! Thanks!!

Hi Matt, You would actually want to run this pump at the lowest RPM's possible while still maintaining a clear pool, this is a bit of trial and error when you first install the pump. The lower the RPM's / GPM's you can run the pump at the lower your operational costs will be, even if this means running the pump for longer periods of time. The 120 GPM filter will mean that you will have large capacity filter which allow you to have longer periods of time between cleaning the cartridge and when you do go up to the highest speed on this pump then your filter will be able to handle the output of this pump. As far as the heat pump goes you will program the pump so that when the heat pump kicks on that the pump is running at the ideal flow rating for your heat pump.

I have a 27,000 gallon pool. The pump location is about15 feet from the pool and 5 feet above it. I am using 1.5" plumbing. What speed settings should I set for the pump?
Reply
This is somewhat trial and error. For just filtration,I would start by running this pump at half speed, 1725 RPM, for 16 hours. If that keeps your pool clear, try dropping it in 200 RPM increments a week at a time. When your pool starts to cloud up, bump it back up to the previous level. If you are running a suction cleaner, you may have to run at 2400 RPM or more part of this time for the cleaner to operate efficiently. If you have a spa, you would probably want to run that at full RPM while you are in the pool.

Can this pump be controlled with Hayward Aqua Pro controller
Reply
Hi Don, the controller will simply turn on and off the pump. Settings would need to be programmed on the pump. If you are looking for a pump that will be fully controlled by your automation then you would want to go with the SP3200VSPND

I have 2 questions:
1) Somebody else asked if this model has been discontinued and the answer was yes, what is the replacement model?
2) Because this pump has a built-in timer to control when the pump runs is there a connection back out of the motor wiring to power a AquaRite 900 series electronic chlorine generator?
Reply
Hi Jack, The current model is the SP2302VSP. The new model has a time only for it's programming, you can not connect anything else to run off the the timer, you will still need to a separate timer to operate the AquaRite 900 Chlorine Generator.

My pool service recently installed a Maxflo VS model #SP2303VSP. When I sent in my application to SanDiego Gas and Electric they returned my request saying they would only pay for models listed. But I see model SP2300VSP is on the list, but has been discontinued. Is there any information you can give me that will qualify my model SP 2303 for the rebate.
Thanks

Hi Miriam, Unfortunately, we do have any info that can be provided to you. You can try contacting Hayward.

water got into the circuit and wiring area tripping the breaker. I took the top off and
blew the water out but the breaker still trips?

If water got in your controls on your motor, it's ruined and you will need to get a new one.

Can I replace the Hayward SP322063EEV 2.7 THP 3 phase pump with this model SP3202VS to eliminate separate controller box? Is the pump frame going to be the same?
Reply
Yes, will work as a replacement. It is not going to be 3 phase like the one you currently have but it will work.

Is this pump a good replacement flow & capacity wise for the Hayward super II 2 speed pump & does it need a Varible Frequency Drive or not? Have a fully automated Hayward control panel that's 9 years old w/ spare relays.Looking to plumb to circulate the 25000 ga salt water pool to qty 10 x 4x 12 ft Solar panels on ground racks ~ 20-25 ft away.

The Max-Flo will be about 10 GPM less than the Super 2 and you will not need a VFD.

i use this pump sp2602vsp in my pool i want to get one for my fish pond do you see any problem with doing this or can you recommend a pump to use

A variable speed pump would be a good choice for a fish pond. You may want to consider the PureLine Prime PL2605 Variable Speed or the PureLine PureFlow PL1615 Variable Speed as options.

I have a appx 23000 gal semi unground with about 40' head. I am using a hayward 32 or 36 DE finer with a Hayward Super pump since 2014. The pump finally went and I'm looking for a VSP (115V). Will the .85 HP in the Hayward SP26115 vsp be enough HP to do the job?

Hi Wayne, I would suggest something with a little more power like the 115V Pentair Super Flo Variable Speed Pump

Hello, I have a 28,000 gallon inground with one and a half inch pipe and 53 feet of head. My current pump let go and I'm looking to replace it with a variable speed. I do not know the GPM max of my filter, it is a Jacuzzi FM 24. I would like to upgrade to salt water in the next couple of years and maybe add solar heating. What would you suggest.

Hi, Steve. This MaxFlo VS Pump will be about to operate a chlorine generator and good for a 24" Sand filter. However, may be inadequate for solar panels depending on where they are positioned and the quantity.

I have approx 12000 gal, 40' head and solar panels on roof directly above pump. The roof is approx 15' tall. What is the appropriate pump?

Hi, John. The Raypak Variable Speed Pool Pump 1.65 THP - PS165VSP is sufficient for your pool.

I have a four year old Hayward SP2300 VSP pool pump that has quit working. I have verified it is not an electrical supply problem.
Please recommend a replacement motor and any other related parts I will need. Thanks.

Hi, John. You can use the ECM16SQU VS Motor which will require an external timer like the Intermatic Timer - T104 along with the pump seal and o-rings which are listed on the Hayward MaxFlo VS (Variable Speed) Parts Diagram page.

i have this sp2300vsp pump operating at 3000 rpm, 18 psi clean pressure, I have a brand new hayward DE 3620 filter. When pressure reaches 18.5 psi, i hardly have any pressure on the return line. I degreased the filter element, no change. I closed the discharge valve, the pressure went up to 19- 20 psi. is there something wrong with this pump?
Reply
Vic, Make sure you are adding the correct amount of d.e powder. You can try changing the valve setting to re-circulate. If the pressure remains the same, the pump is operating normally.

When did they stop making these and how long is the warranty if purchased new?

unit not restarting is the a reset anywhere

What is the difference between the SP2303VSP and the W3SP2303VSP beside the weight. One says carton weight is 45 and the other is 28.7 but other than that was not sure. Do the have the same foot print. I am replacing a SP2300VSP.

Jay, The SP2303VSP, and the W3SP2303VSP are the same pump. Beginning late 2019, Hayward designated that any of their products being sold online had to be designated with the "W3" prefix. Any product with the "SP" prefix can only be sold through "brick and mortar" retailers.

how many gallons per hour does W3SP2303VSP moves giving that it's variable at its highest speed to it's lowest speed

Hello George. Attached please find the product details for the Hayward Super Pump Variable Speed Pump model W3SP2303VSP. Under the heading "Super Pump VS Performance Comparison," flow rates (expressed in gallons per minute) can be determined for various levels of Total Dynamic Head (THD - resistance to water flow, expressed in Ft. of Water).
