What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

What about gaskets, Orings, seals, etc? Are they included or available to complete the installation?
Reply
Seal, O-ring and gaskets are typically always avaiable. To get the correct ones, we would need to know the housing this motor is getting bolted up to. The motor can fit on multiple applications.

I have the 128 model and replaced the same pump. Pump come internally wired for 230, correct? I have 230 wiring so does my white wire go to L1 and Black goes to L2? This is how I have it wired and it seems like it's pushing less water.
Reply
Hi Jim, The motor is wired correctly. I would recommend checking the impeller, cleaning out the filter and skimmer. If those are clogged it will cause low water pressure.

If this does not fit, is it returnable,
Seems to match up etc.

I have AO Smith Standard 1hp UST1102 and I have burned out two and want upgrade. Can upgrade to this one B128? Now my UST1102 was 5-5/8" and this one is 6-7/16" will it still work.
Reply
Hi Hector, You can upgrade to the B128 if you system can handle the additional water flow because the B128 motor is a high performance motor which has a higher total horsepower. You will also have to replace the impeller.

I have a Jandy sheath ( jhp1 ) with a 1hp AO Smith century centurion motor, FR-M56J, type-cx, rpm 3450. When I turn it on the motor makes a humming sound and doesn't come on. Is there any way to determine approximate year of manufacture for a motor.
I have CAT B128 / PART O-1644303-23 SERIAL 0I06
Reply
Good afternoon Michael, Sometimes they put the last two digits in the middle. In this case your motor would be a 2003. This isn't always the case thou. You can call A.O smith @ 1-866-887-5216. Give them the number and they can tell by that what year.

My pool uses this exact motor & pump (just bought this house) with a part number O-134303-03, serial OB06. I already replaced the capacitor. The motor sounds loud. was this pump manufactured in 2003? How long do these motors typically last?Should I replace the motor with the exact one or is there a more efficient motor pump assembly that is reasonably priced and more efficient? Should I replace the pump if I replace the motor now? Which pump do you recommend?
Reply
Hi, Scott. I can't tell you when this motor was manufactured based on the info provided. These motors also do not have a lifespan, it just depends on how it is maintained. I would recommend a more energy efficient motor like the B654 or the ECM16CU. You don't have to replace the pump if you're replacing the motor. If the pump is more than 10 years old then you should consider replacing the entire pump. If you can get me the pump housing model I can provide you with some options.

Will this motor, b128, replace a motor on a Hayward super pump?
Reply
Hi, Mike. A B128 motor can fit on a Hayward Super Pump but you really don't see a lot of full rate motor being used. If you can get me the PART, CAT, or MOD # off of the current motor I will be able to confirm.

Will this fit on a EB229? What tune up kit (gaskets, etc.) is made for this? Thanks.

Hi Dave, The B229SE 1.5 HP Uprated Motor would be the proper replacement for your EB229 motor.

i have a century centurion motor b128 0-164303-23 and I am wondering if I wanted to change to a higher hp motor than the 1hp what would be a good replacement.
Reply
You could go up to the B129 1.5 HP Motor but you would need to upgrade your impeller to 1.5 HP. We would need to know the make and model of your pump to suggest the proper impeller. Common pumps are the Hayward Super Pump, Jandy Stealth Pump, etc.. Please reply to this email with your pump information and we will suggest the proper impeller.

These motors come with a one-year manufacturer warranty and in order to cross reference the correct seal kit, we will need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to.

I am replacing a pump motor and also need the seals. Here is the motor.
The pump says Model B91061
Hi Kevin, This is the correct replacement motor for your pump in the photo. Your pump looks similar to a Hayward Super Pump but it is not a Hayward Super Pump. We are thinking the Hayward Super Pump Parts will work as replacement but we are not 100% sure since we have not seen this particular pump before.

There is no make or model on the attachment with the basket. I have posted pictures of what it looks like. Once you send me that info, I can order motor and seals. Thank you.
We will need to know the manufacturer and model of the pump. It looks like a Hayward Super pump. If you find out it is a Super Pump here is the Tune up kit for that pump... Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump - GOKIT3

We are running on our 2nd pump in 6yrs, just burnt up yesterday:dead, billowing smoke, and smelled of burning electrical. Motor is Century/Centurion B128, s#22218CH, pt# 0-164303-23, CX, M56J, 1.0hp, 1.40 sf, 1ph, 3450rpm. I’m sure your 5222x is the replacement. My pump is Hayward SP2607X10, s#21121405000336009. Within the questions I see you told someone that motor won’t work with that pump. You recommended UST1102. Is that correct? Could that be my recurring motor issue? What do I really need?
I received two o-rings with my Century motor Model B128 5222x Where specifically do they go?
Hello, APCO2297 will be installed upon the diffuser and APCO2441 will be installed as the housing oring.
