Can the light be changed without draining the pool?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/7/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes you can replace the bulb in your pool light with this LED bulb without needing to drain your pool water. You will first need to turn off power to the pool light at your breaker then go to the pool light and remove the pilot screw which is located on the face ring of your light. Once the pilot screw is removed this will allow you to bring your entire light fixture up on to your pool deck where you can then replace the bulb. The replacing of the bulb is as simple as unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in the new bulb. I would also suggest replacing your lights lens gasket when replacing the bulb, the two most popular would be the Hayward Astrolite Lens Gasket and the Pentair Amerlite Lens Gasket. We also have a great Video on How to Replace a Swimming Pool Light Bulb which will walk you through the process.

is there a remote control to stop the changing colors or does it cycle the different colors constantly?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/7/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The light would be controlled through a standard light switch or your pool control system. Flipping your light switch on and off relatively quickly will cycle the light to the next color or next light show. There are 16 modes, 7 modes are fixed colors and 9 modes are rotating color shows.

Can the light be stopped on one particular color? I tried downloading the owners manual and there seems to be a bad link
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/7/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes the light can be stopped on a color there are 7 fixed colors white, red, green, blue, gold, cyan and violet. You would cycle to the fixed colors by flipping your pool light switch relatively quickly. In addition to the fixed colors there are 9 color shows..... Evening Sea (slow animation of blue and red), Evening rivers (slow animation of green and red), Riviera (slow animation of blue and green, Rainbow (slow animation of all colors), River of Colors (slow animation of all colors followed by Four Seasons), Disco (fast animation followed by Rainbow) and Party (Fast animation followed by River of Colors).

Hi Lew, For a 16' x 32' pool I would suggest the 35 Watt 120V Pure Colors LED Pool Bulb. The 35 Watt bulb is comparable to a 300 - 400 Watt Incandescent bulb.

Yes the Pure Colors Bulb can be used to cycle colors with a timer and it does have memory so if the light is turned off for more than 20 seconds then the next time the light is turned on the light will remember the last color show it was on.

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/10/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

The best bet would be to remove the light fixture from the niche in the wall of the pool. To do this you will turn off the breaker to the light then get in the swimming pool and remove the pilot screw at the top of the light face ring. This will then free the light from the wall of the pool and you can bring the light fixture up onto your deck. There should be a label on the light housing which will give you the manufacture and model # of your light. If this information has worn off then you can check your dimensions against the Pentair Amerilite Dimensions or the Hayward Astrolite Dimensions and if they match up then this bulb will fit. The voltage information should be on the light housing but if it has worn off then you can remove the bulb from inside the light fixture and the voltage information should be right on the light bulb.

The American Products CN-5 R-500 references to the Pentair Amerliter 120V / 500W. This light is normally installed in pools. If you have this model, you may install the PL5814 or the PL5809 with the use of the Guardian Silicone Lens Extra Heavy Duty Gasket for Pentair Amerlite - LPL-G-P. You may try to use vice grips or locking pliers to get a better grip on the screw.

I need to replace my incandescent bulb and was thinking about upgrading to the LED color changing bulb. Will this work with a dimmer switch or will I need to install a regular switch?

You would need to use a standard light switch/on/off circuit for this bulb.

I am looking to replace my current pool bulb with a color changing LED I have removed my pool light and it is Fiberstars "Jazz Light" 120 Volts, 84 Watts HID-50. Wil this bulb work, if not will any bulb work or do I need a whole new light?

Unfortunately, this bulb will not fit and you will need to replace the entire light fixture if you want an LED light.

I have a 45,000 gallon pool with a Pentair 784 light at each corner. Would you recommend the 18W or 35W LED bulb if replacing all 4?

Hi, Alex. I recommend getting (2) 18 watt and (2) 35 watt LED bulb based on the current incandescent wattage.

Yes, this bulb would be compatible with your SP580 series pool light as long as you do indeed have 120 volts.

How do you get it to change light? Is there just a switch or is there a controller that you can choose the lights?

A  Answered on 9/18/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

By turning the light switch off then back on, the light will cycle through the different colors and or light shows.

Good afternoon..should the existing screw holding the existing light be replaced also along with the lens?

A  Answered on 3/14/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Alfred, You don't have to replace the lens and screw when replacing your bulb however it is good preventative maintenance if they are really old. We do suggest replacing your lens gasket when replacing your bulb.

I am wanting to replace the old school lights in my pool and hot tub. Can you tell me which color changing LEDs are compatible as well as the gasket I will need. Thanks The first 2 pics are the hot tub light. Last 3 are for the pool

Hi Misty, For the pool lights you can go with this PL5814 Bulb. Unfortunately, your Spa Housing takes a T-4 Bulb and there is not a LED replacement for a T4 bulb. This means you would need to replace the complete spa fixture with this Pentair Spa Light Fixture and this 120V J&J LED Spa Bulb please note that the bulbs in the pool and spa do not synchronize if you go with PureColors and J&J. If you want them to synchronize then you would need this J&J 120V Pool LED Bulbs for the pool and this

Bummer! We probably won't take on the challenge of replacing the entire fixture. Do you carry these T-4 replacement bulbs?

Hi Misty, Here is the link to the T4 Spa Bulb 100 Watt 120V If your okay with White in the Spa and Color Changing in the Pool then you could still go with the PL5814 LED Bulb for the pool, one of the color options for the PL5814 is white.

This PL5814 Pure Colors LED Bulb would be the correct upgrade bulb for your sp-583-sl 500w 120v r40 light. You will also need this SP 583 Hayward Lens Gasket

I just recently bought a LED color changing light. With the light came the new lenses gasket which I replaced as well. It took 2 days for water to get into the light socket area burning the LED light out. Im afraid to spend over $100.00 again for a light that if seal does not seal right I will burn that light out as well. If I buy from your company and if this happens again will I get a replacement bulb for free or will I have to keep paying $100 for a new bulb until the gasket seals correctly.

Carl, If the lens fails and causes damage to the bulb, that is not covered under warranty. Before re-installing the light, I would recommend placing the light assembly in a bucket of water to check for any leaks before installing it back into the pool. Also, when installing the gasket, make sure that the ridge side is facing away from the light housing.

A  Answered on 5/5/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Alex V.

Donald, While the bulb will physically fit inside of your light housing, you will still need to confirm what voltage you currently have (120v or 12v). The PL5814 is a 120v bulb and will not work with a 12v fixture. We also recommend replacing the lens gasket when you replace the bulb.

Will this light work with a UL wet niche W-733766 Hayward? It says to use for niche model SP0600(U), SP0604C and SP0607(U)

Yes this bulb will work with the light fixture shown in your photo, you will just need to double check your voltage to make sure your light is 120V, normally this is written on the face of your current light bulb.
