I have a Hayward Super pump with a Century centurion motor Part # 10-164303-23 for my In ground pool. The motor runs hot and the pump was very loud and has stopped pumping water. Is the PureLine Prime Pool Pump 1 Hp a compatible direct replacement for my pump / motor combo? The current motor is 230 /115 Volt and SF 7 Amp motor. The pureline prime lists to be a 6 amp motor; will this be a problem for swap out?
Reply
Hi Ken, Yes the 1 HP PureLine Prime is a direct replacement for the 1 HP Hayward Super Pump you listed. The motor on the PureLine Prime can be wired either 115V or 230V and when wired 230V it draws 6 amps. This would not be a problem if your current motor draws 7 amps, it will just mean that the new pump will be costing you less to operate as it uses less energy.

Is there a power cord?
Reply
Hello Laurie, Unfortunately this motor does not come with a power cord. It will need to be hard wired to use as a 230v connection or you will need to purchase a 3-prong cord to use as a 115v connection.

I have a 1.5 hp pump at this time, me pool is in ground gunite approx. 30,000 gal.
The Current plumbing is 1.5 inches. I see this pump has a higher head and water flow then what I have now. Do you think this pump will work with my size plumbing and pool ?
I wish I could give more info on the old pump but everything on it is unreadable.
Reply
Hi Bob, If you have had a 1.5 HP pump on your pool with 1.5" plumbing then you would be fine with this pump as it has the same flow rating as the majority of 1.5 HP pumps on the market.

I have a Hayward Super Pump 3/4 hp with 1.5" water lines and ports. If I change to the PureLine 1 hp with 2" ports will that be a problem?
Reply
Hi Don, If you are going from 1.5" pipe up to 2" ports that will not be a problem. The issue comes into play when you go from 2" plumbing down to 1.5" ports. You should also be fine with going from a 3/4 HP up to a 1 HP as in most cases the flow differences are not that significant. If you like you could email us the size of your pool along with the make and model of your filter so we can double check, but you should be just fine with the 1 HP.

Can you recommend a power cord to run a 115v connection? It seems to be set up for spade style connections. Thanks

I have a Whisperflo WF-24 Pump. Would this unit be a direct replacement for it?
Thanks
Ryan
Reply
Hi Ryan, as far as power goes the PureLine Prime would be comparable to the Whisperflo. The Prime wouldn't be classified as a drop in replacement to the Whisperflo as the plumbing ports are in a slightly different location meaning you would have a little bit of re-plumbing.

What size pump should I get for a pool that is approximately 23000 gallons of water?
Reply
Hi Ron, To find out what size pump would be sufficient for your pool you will need to calculate the feet of head and desire turn-over rate. All this info can be found in our How To: Size A Pool Pump guide.
Reply
My pump went out recently and I'm trying to determine what to get. We replaced our filter about 6 months ago as well (Hayward - 96 GPM). My in-ground pool GPM is 22.3, and the Average Feet of Head is 19.6. Would this pump be sufficient?
Reply
Hi Spencer, With a feet of head at let's say 20 this pump will produce a flow rate of 68 gpm which will be sufficient for your pool.

Hi Jessie, If you replace your current pump with the PureLine Prime pump you will have to redo your plumbing.

I had a Hayward super pump that runs a in pool spa. It was not hooked to the filter.can I go with a less expensive pump?
Reply
If there is nothing wrong with the pump housing I would just replace the motor and seals, especially if it's an older super pump. The older super pumps are probably in the top three pumps out there. If you have a leak or crack in your current pump housing then the PureLine Prime would be a good replacement and you won't have to change the plumbing. The new super pumps only have 1.5" ports where the older models have 2" ports. The PureLine Prime has 2" ports and would directly replace your current super pump if replacing the entire unit is what you decide to do.

Redneck Rep, Good morning. We do not carry that particular pump. If you would like to replace the motor on it we can help you with that. We would just need the model on the motor. If you wanted to replace the entire pump that pump would be a good replacement you would need to change the plumbing.

I currently have a Purex WF-4 and would like a replacement pump. I am looking at your Pureline Model PL2601. Would that be the correct replacement for my pump? Please let me know so I can get one ordered. Thank you
Reply
Hi Michael, The WF-4 Whisperflo is equivalent to a 1.5 HP PL2602 Pureline Prime the reason being is that your WF-4 Whisperflo uses a full rated motor and the PureLine Prime uses and uprated motor. The full rate motor has a higher service factor at 1.65 and the uprated PureLine Prime has a lower service factor of 1.0. When you multiply the service factor by your HP you get the true hp meaning your WF-4 has a true HP of 1HP x 1.65 SF = True HP of 1.65 HP where the 1.5 HP prime has a true HP of 1.5HP x 1.0 SF = True HP of 1.5 HP. With all of that being said I would highly recommend the PureLine Prime pump it is a great pump and the 1.5 HP would work just fine for you.

I have an older Northstar pump that I believe is 1.5 hp. Im thinking about replacing with a pureline pump. I replaced the motor on mine last year and it is screaming this year. Im going to run it long enough to get the pool clear ( I just opened it up). My biggest issue is that the pump is about 50 feet from the pool. I need a pump that will handle the distance. any advice?
Reply
Hi Tracy for your pool we would suggest a 2 HP PureLine Prime Pump as a suitable replacement for the 1.5 HP Hayward Northstar. The ports are not in the exact same location so you will have some re-plumbing.

How do I know how many feet of head I have in my pool?. My filter flow rate is 62 GPM and I have 1 1/2 " piping
Reply
Hi Riad, A very rough estimate for feet of head is to take the average distance of pipe on your suction side. For example if you have 30' of pipe going from your pump to your main drain and 40' of pipe going to skimmer # 1 and 50' of pipe to skimmer #2 then you have roughly 40' of head (30' + 40' + 50' = 120' / 3 = 40' of head). In this example the PL2601 outputs 50 GPM at 40' of head so we would suggest going up the the 1.5 HP PL2602 PureLine Prime which outputs 60 GPM at 40' of head. For a very detailed way to determine feet of head then read our Article on How to Determine Feet of Head.

Yes, these pumps have had a very good track record. We really can only speculate what the issue was that could cause the motor to fail in three years. Technically there can be multiple reasons. The motor on these pumps is a genuine A.O. Smith Century motor just like the original Haywards have as well. Please call in and maybe we can look into some other options for you.

The Hayward Tristar series is technically the direct replacement pump however, as long as the total horsepower of another pump match that of your Northstar then you can use one. We would just need to confirm your current motor model or part number in order to confirm the match. Unfortunately, the pictures you have provided do not clearly show that information.

You would actually be losing approximately .25 horspeower so unless you know that would suffice based on your total dynamic head of your pool and you do not want to go with a variable speed then we would recommend something like the Pentair Superflo model 340038.
