I would like to replace my Hayward super pump 1.5 HP single speed with a 2 speed Hayward super pump, same HP. You mentioned, we can purchase a toggle switch or a timer. How do you make the electrical connections? I currently have a combination 220 and 110 v outlets by my pump. I just plug my 3 prong cord from the super pump to my outlet, which is connected to my regular timer which is located in my garage approx. 100 ft. away from the pump, filter & gas heater.

Hi Del, the hayward super pump 1.5 SP2610X152S includes "Hi/Lo" switch on the back of the motor so you would still need to do it manual unless you upgrade to a newer timer or automantion system

According to the product description of this 1.5 HP super pump, 2 speed replacement motor, it is shipped LESS HI/LOW SWITCH. This means there is no Hi/LO switch? So, how can I manually switch it to Hi or Lo, Joe S? Will this motor fit in my old 1.5 HP Hayward super pump housing? Thanks.
Reply
Hi Del, You are correct this motor does not have a Hi/Lo switch and is only controlled through an outside timer purchased separately. If you want a manual toggle switch for the Hi/Lo then you would need the complete hayward super pump 1.5 HP SP2610X152S which includes the "Hi/Lo" switch on the back of the motor for manual switching of speeds. If you just want to replace the motor then we highly recommend the dual speed motor with integrated digital timer as the installation and wiring is so much easier than the manual switch. The digital timer allows you to manually switch between speeds or you can program the timer to run a different speeds throughout the day. Also the digital timer dual speed motor is less expensive than going with the dual speed motor and then purchasing a separate timer.

Hi, I am trying to replace a Hayward motor w/ the following specifications:
A.O. Smith Century Two Speed 1081 Pool & Spa
P/N 7-177106-01 HP 1.5 - 2.5 Code G SP1615Z2BC
SF1.3 RPM 3450/1725 AMPS 9.1/3.4
It is controlled with an Blue Haven (Goldline Aqua Logic) controller. Can you help me out with everything I need, i.e correct motor, timer??, replacement seals, gaskets, etc? Thank you, Dave S.
Reply
Hi Dave, The motor on this page would be the correct replacement motor based on the information you supplied. The controller you already have would be fine to control this motor unless the controller has gone bad. As far as the tune up kit goes could you reply back to the email which was sent to you with a couple photos of your pump, this would allow us to recommend the proper tune up kit.

Hi Doug, The A.O. Smith 1-1/2 HP Round Flange Dual Speed Full Rate Motor (STS1152R) will be the correct Dual Speed for the Hayward SP3015EEAZ pump. I would recommend getting a Hayward Super II Pump Tune Up Kit (GOKIT2) and a Intermatic Dual Speed Pump Timer (T106R) if you do not have a controller.

What specific capacitor on this unit? The fact that the high speed does not work but the low speed does work on this dual speed could be the capacitor atop the motor? Please shed some light

Hi Jose, We do not have the specs of the capacitors for the STS1152 Dual Speed motor. You will have to get the specs off of the run capacitor to find the correct replacement.

My impeller broke (original pump install in 2005,) this will be my second motor replacement for this Hayward dual speed Super II pump. Which impeller do I use with the STS1152R? The original 3010c states it for a 1 1/2 hp up rated or 1 hp full rated motor and this new motor is full rated at 1 1/2 hp. From looking on your site, the 3015c looks to be rated for a 1 1/2 hp pump. Thanks.

I would need your pump model to confirm but I am showing Impeller, Sp3015-c, Hayward (spx3015c) as the correct part. If your pump is a sp3016 than you would need Hayward (spx3016c)

Hi, Pat.The UST1152 single speed motor is the direct replacement for model # C48L2N134B1. If you would like to convert to a dual speed motor here are your options; the STS1102 in addition to the End Cover Switch Assembly (1011431-001) or the T106R Timer or the B975T motors.

I need a replacement for a C48L2N36 Hayward / AO Smith superpump
It is two speed 1.5 and .25 hp 220 volt
Also is there an alternate which is 2 HP which will fit?
It is for an swim spa I might consider upping it a half horsepower.
So what models have the same flange ?
Thanks !
Tim
Reply
Hi, Tim. The STS1102R is the correct replacement for your current motor. The STS1152R would be the step up from the motor to the 2 HP since these motors are considered Full Rate. Due to a higher service factor, full rate motors have a higher total hp that what they're rated for. If you do go with the STS1152R motor you will need to change the impeller with p/n SPX2615C or the STS1202VR1 motor will require p/n SPX1621C (impeller) and SPX1616B (Diffuser) along with the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT.

I have a 3 year old AO Smith SP1615Z2MC motor that completely rusted out the top cover. I see there are protective pump covers - is this the solution to the problem or is it just a Band-Aid fix to have a protective pump cover? My original pump motor lasted 15 years but it didn't have a top cover. Is this just a poor design and I should look for a different motor design?
Reply
Hi. The Protective Motor Cover will prevent rusting that is caused by water pouring down on the motor. There is nothing wrong with the design of the motor.

I have a 1hp variable speed hayward pool pump that has gone bad and would like to upgrade with a 1 1/2hp variable speed. Would this motor fit? Also, I have a controller that switches speeds, so there is no need for manual switch, correct? Thank you
Reply
Hi Mark, if you have the Hayward Super Pump or Super II pump then you would need the variable speed replacement motor listed here - 1.65 HP Round Flange Variable Speed Pool Motor. For this motor you will need a timer to power the motor on and off and then all the timer functions and RPM control is done directly on the controller on the motor.

I have a Hayward Super Pump with a Hayward Century single-speed motor (model C48L2N134B1). Twice overnight the motor has completely stopped (wall power switch still in the on position), so I'm assuming it's overheating. (It will start working again after 5 hours or so.) I'd like to replace it with a dual-speed motor. Is model STS1152R a good match? What else do I need to change to two speeds? I don't currently have a timer, but I'm happy to control a dual-speed manually.

My suggestion would be the B2975T Dual Speed Replacement Motor with Timer I love this motor as it has a digital timer built right into the top of the motor which makes installation very simple. The B2975T is a 1 HP Full Rate motor which is identical to your 1.5 HP up rate motor. I would also suggest a Hayward Super Pump Seal Kit when you do your replacement.

Hi, Don. You can use the Century B129 or the ST1102 motor with the SP3015EEAZ. If you would like to convert your pump to dual speed, you can use this STS1152 motor. Whichever motor you choose I will recommend that you get the Super II Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT2 or GOKIT2SALT.

I would like to replace the motor with 2 speed. Is there any reason to spend the few dollars and do the easy, but likely tricky to fit plumbing and change the pump?
Reply
Jat, If the pump housing is still in good shape, you can simply replace the motor and seals. Please note that the 2-speed motor will only run on 230v. You will also need to purchase a 2 speed switch or 2-speed timer to control the high and low speed.

Can you help explain the difference between this motor and the Part #: 5388X? These come up as replacements for Hayward/Century SP1615Z2MC/Part 7-177107-04, but my current motor lists HP as 2.0/.33. Hi, Rob. The difference between these two motor is the physical size which will include the design. Also, the amp ratings, PART # 5388X is slightly more energy efficient. However, both motor has a Total HP (THP) of 1.95.

A 21 month old SP2610X15 that obviously from the get-go, had a poorly installed seal. I bought this motor a couple of years ago. It has been running great until a few weeks ago. when I run it in low it runs fine. when I run it on high it runs for a while and shuts off. it is not tripping any breakers but it is very hot. when it cools down it comes back on. any ideas on where to start? my old motor lasted over 10 years. thanks for your help. Joe
Reply
Most likely Loose connections in the wires somewhere between the breaker and the motor connections. Voltage is dropping and the motor is not able to operate at full power.

I have one of these motors that is about 5 years old. It recently started failing to start in low speed. In high speed it turns on and runs fine, in low speed the centrifugal switch just arcs and the motor tries to run but won't (it turns and sparks and just keeps doing that). Any iodeas?
Reply
The most common issue which would cause this would be a bad capacitor. We show this motor has both a Run Capacitor and a Start Capacitor so these would be the two items we would suggest replacing or testing.
Reply
Thanks, I have replaced the run and am waiting for a new start to come in.
Reply
Thanks Steve, let us know how it goes.
Reply
I have tried replacing both the start and run capacitors and still have the same issue. The pump will start and run if it started in the high speed position, switching to low or trying to start in low cause the pump to start turning and as the centrifugal switch starts to open it oscillates between open and closed and arcs until it trips the breaker. Any ideas?

Hi Trevor, yes this is the correct replacement motor for your motor part number 177653. It is also recommended to replace the seals when replacing a motor. For your Hayward Super Pump series, the seal kit for a chlorine swimming pool is the GOKIT3, and for a saltwater pool it is the GOKIT3SALT.
Reply
In order to switch between low and high speeds, one must manually toggle, correct?
Reply
Hi Dan, yes you can use a manual toggle switch, but can also use a dual speed timer which would need to be wired to a standard timer. You can also use a dual-speed control on an automation control panel. Those are also used to control your entire equipment for the swimming pool.

The Motor Bearing, Generic 6304, 20mm Id, 52mm Od - NA-6304-LL and Motor Bearing, Generic 6203, 17mm Id, 40mm Od - RBL-6203-LL are the bearings to replace the 6304V and NSK6203V. The Tune Up Kit Hayward MaxFlo - GOKIT1 can be used for the pump seals, if you have a salt system the PS3868 (Saltwater Pools) should be ordered with the kit to sub out the standard chlorine shaft seal. The motor is a full rated 1.5HP that means the total HP is 2.25HP. You mentioned you have the max-rated 1.5 Super II, which has a lower total HP of 1.5. Hi Steve, yes, this is one correct replacement motor for the motor part number 177062 but the direct replacement is the 5388X. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. There is no actual Hayward Super pump II so could you send us a few photos of your pump so we can suggest the proper seal kit? If so then please take a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos or quickest provide them using our live online chat feature. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation for your seal kit.

Hello Keith. The Century Motors model SP1610Z2MCS, 7-177653-03 is a 1.5 HP Up Rate Dual Speed Motor (per the photo attached). The Century 1.5 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1152 is a more comparable replacement motor than the Century 2.0 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1202. The 2.0 HP UST1202 doesn't provide improved circulation (flow GPM) without an impeller change Impeller 2.0 THP - SPX2615C It is possible to change out the existing motor to either of these replacements. The Tune Up Kit Hayward Super Pump - GOKIT3 contains the necessary parts to complete the motor change.

Hello Robert. The Century 1.5 HP Round Flange 56J Dual Speed Full Rate Motor - STS1152R is compatible with the Blue Haven/Hayward Super II Pump. A Flow Rating (GPM) is specific to the manufacturer/model of the pump and not a rating associated with a motor. However, the Hayward Super II SP3015X202AZ Performance Data can be used as a reference in this instance. Attached please find the Hayward Super II Pump 2 HP Dual Speed - SP3015X202AZ product page.
