How many hours per day should I run my pump?
Reply
There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

What is the difference between this variable speed and the Intelliflo VF please? Thx.
Reply
The main difference is on the high speed capabilities of the pump, the Intelliflo can ramp all the way up to 3 HP where the SuperFlo can go up to 1-1/2 HP. For most pools the 3 HP is overkill and you really never need to go above 1-1/2 HP. If you have a standard pool 25,000 gallons or less and no crazy water features then the SuperFlo would be fine.

What are the stats on this pump? HP etc. Does it come in a 1 HP max?Thx.

You may view the stats on this SuperFlo VS within the SuperFlo VS Data Sheet. The SuperFlo VS is only available in a 1-1/2 HP max HP.

I recently upgraded from old 1HP pump to Pentair SuperFlo VS Variable Speed 1.5HP 115/208-230v. My in-ground pool (~15,000 gallons) has Hayward C12002 Star-Clear 120sf filter. Pump runs from 12am to 8am at step 3 (2200 RPM).
Each time the pump starts up (12am), the return jets blow out dirt and cartridge filter fiber. This seems to only happen then. Not a problem during quick clean. What do you think is the problem and how should I go about fixing it (already tried cellulose fiber)? THX!
Reply
Good Afternoon Chris, Sounds like you need a new filter element. How long has it been since you replaced your element. The cellulose fiber could be your problem if your using to much once the filter is clogged. You will have blow back. If the filter element is old replace it. If it is not old clean it and quit using the cellulose.

Hi Jose, Unfortunately, there is not a drop in replacement pump for your MPRA6E-147L pump. You do have two options... Option #1 is to replace your pump with the 1.65 HP PureLine Prime Variable Speed Pump which would require some re-plumbing. The other option would be to replace your motor with the Century 1.65 HP Variable Speed Motor a Dyna Glas 1.5 HP Impeller and a Dyna Glas Seal kit. The second option would continue you to use your current pump housing so no re-plumbing would be required.

Can I replace my pentair WFE-28 with the Pentair Superflo VS
Reply
Hi, Robin. It's possible based on your pools Total Dynamic Head (TDH) and the required flow rate..
Reply
No way for me to figure that out ... it’s a 15,000 gallon In ground pool with a connected hot tub. I think the pipe is 2 inch.
Hi Robin, In normal pool applications the Total Dynamic Head will be around 50' based on this number the SuperFlo VS will be outputting 70 GPM on the high speed where your WhisperFlo WFE-28 would be outputting about 120 GPM at 50' of head. For general pool filtration the 70 GPM should be more than enough for a 15,000-gallon pool, the only thing that would be a question mark is the spa jets. You may have the higher HP on your pool so that you can adequately power your spa jets. Depending on the type of spa jets you have determines your flow needs. Spa jets normally need between 6 GPM - 20 GPM based on the model. Let's say you had 10 jets that require 10 GPM each then you would need a pump that could output a 100 GPM and the 70 gpm of the SuperFlo VS would not be adequate. I hope this helps.

Hello, I will need the full model number from the Jandy pump wet-end to correctly suggest a replacement VS pump. The change from single speed to a VS pump should be reviewed by a professional first to verify the reduced flow rates of the VS pump will be a sufficient change for the significant cost to operate at lower speeds. We offer Variable Speed Pool Pump Buying Guide http://www.inyopools.com/blog/variable-speed-pool-pump-buying-guide-2/ for some help, however, knowing the current model is definitely a plus to best recommend for the transition to a VS pump.

The SuperFlo VS Variable Speed Pump 115/230V - 342001 most likely will not be strong enough to provide adequate flow to the features mentioned. If you could provide the current pump model number that is very helpful to suggest a variable speed pump for the transition. There different types of pumps on the market designed to provide certain flow rates and types of flow. The IntelliFlo i1 Variable Speed Pump - 011059 may be a better choice to review for this type of application, however, it is best to also verify the maximum flow rates on the filter before ordering a pump.

The SuperFlo VS Variable Speed Pump 115/230V - 342001 is not suggested to transition to from a Challenger. The Challenger is a heavier duty-specialty pump. Your motor number confirmed to have a total HP of 1.25 and voltage options of 230 or 115V. The Waterway Power Defender 165 Variable Speed Pool Pump 1.65 HP 230V - PD-VSC165 is the pump I recommend for proper flow rates, this pump only operates with 208-230 Volts. If you have 110/115-120V you will need to contact an electrician to have them run the line for 208 or 230V.

Is this pump sufficient or should I go with the 011018? Do you see any interface/programming issues; pump to Aquarite? Recommendations? Thanks!

Yes, the SuperFlo VS Variable Speed Pump 115/230V - 342001 can be installed at 35-40' TDH with the Clean & Clear RP Cartridge Filter 150 sqft. - 160355 and with the use of a W3AQR9. An external timer is needed for the salt system. It will not be wired directly to the pump. http://www.inyopools.com/Blog/psc-ep-90-need-timer-salt-system/

Hello - I have a Hayward superpump with 1.5" piping. Can I replace it with this? I am hoping to avoid the electrical swap out as the Hayward is 115v and so is this unit. Thanks.

I have a Sta-Rite Dyna-Glas single speed pump that just died today after 18 years. 25K in-ground pool. (1.5 HP, 115/230, ports are 2" internal NPT ) Looking for a variable speed pump...worried about so many pumps being back-ordered. Suggestions please?

We have this pump in stock. If you are replacing an existing pump you want to make sure that your pool filter can handle the GPM of the pump. You can use the performance curve on the pump page to get the proper GPM. Your Filter should have a GPM rating.

Hello William. The Pentair SuperFlo VS 1.5 Variable Speed Pump Is a compatible replacement for the Pentair VS 3050 if your solar heating panels are installed on a single-story roof. If the solar heating panels are installed on a two-story roof then the Pentair IntelliFlo would be the appropriate replacement. The SuperFlo VS comes with union connectors for 1.5" or 2.0" plumbing. Hello Jim. The Pentair Poop Products Superflo VS 1.5 HP Variable Speed Pump would be an excellent replacement. Thank you for contacting Inyo Pools, According to Pentair tech department as the pump ages, it struggles to keep the programming.

I have a Century 165 VSP attached to an old system. See the attached pix as reference. The system is 15yrs old and the VSP is about six yrs old and is rusting badly. Rather than replacing the VSP motor, I thought it best to replace the entire system. Can you suggest a replacement? The pool is about 13k gallons and has a waterfall which requires me to run the VSM at 1800RPMs. Hope this helps/

Hello Thomas. The Pentair Pool Products SuperFlo VS 1.5 HP (2.2THP) model EC-342001 would be an excellent variable speed pump to replace the current system. Pentair SuperFlo® VS 1.5 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump - EC-342001 At lower RPMs the SuperFlo still has the ability to support pool and waterfall circulation. SuperFlo's ease of programming will facilitate adjusting water flow to meet requirements.

How to use timer to change the running time?

Hello. The Pentair SuperFlo VS Pool Pump has an internal clock - the time is displayed on the LCD screen. The daily run time/speed/duration programming is based on the clock setting making it necessary to set the clock first. I currently have this pump Pentair SuperFlo Variable Speed. I'm looking to find an inground DE Filter compatible with this pump. My pool is 16,000 gallons. What do you recommend?
Reply
Hello Stephanie. The FNS® Plus 36 DE Filter with the 1 1/2" Multiport Valve or 2" Multiport Valve (depending on plumbing size) are compatible with a 16K gallon pool and the SuperFlo VS. The Hayward ProGrid DE Filter 36 Sq Ft with the Vari-Flo Valve 1 1/2" or Vari-Flo 2" are also compatible. Combining comparable equipment from different manufacturers does not negatively impact their performance or pool water circulation.

Need to replace a Pentair superflo 1.5 hp pump. We have a 7000 gal. Inground Fiberglass pool, sand dollar sd80 sand filter, and propane heater. One main drain, two returns, one skimmer. Please recommend the best two or three pumps sized for our pool. Thanks

Hello Robert. The Department of Energy Energy Conservation Standards for Dedicated Purpose Pool Pumps, enacted July 2021, discontinued the manufacturing/marketing of single-speed inground pool pumps in the United States in lieu of variable speed pool pumps. Inventories of single speed and dual speed pool pumps have become increasingly scarce. The Pentair SuperFlo® VS 1.5 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump - EC-342001 would be an excellent drop-in replacement. The Hayward Super Pump VS Variable Speed Pump 230V - W3SP2603VSP is a compatible variable speed replacement. The Pentair WhisperFlo 1HP High Performance Pool Pump - EC-015583 (single speed) has very similar performance data to the SuperFlo 1.5HP.

Replacing an old single speed 1.5hp Hayward Super Pump on 33k gal inground pool approx 40’tdh. Is this pump a good choice? Also would it be able to handle a modest spa added in future? Thanks
Reply
Hello Erik. Comparing the Performance Data @ 40 ft TDH for the Hayward Super Pump @ 3450 RPM - 78GPM and Pentair SuperFlo VS @ 3450 RPM - 83GPM the two pumps are very similar. The SuperFlo VS is an excellent replacement variable speed pump for the Hayward Super Pump. The SuperFlo VS would have the ability to accommodate a spa with a spillover feature. The volume of the spillover would be determined by the pump's RPMs. Pentair SuperFlo® VS Hayward Super Pump Reference Performance Data - Product Detail Section
