Can the light be changed without draining the pool?
Reply
Yes you can replace the bulb in your pool light with this LED bulb without needing to drain your pool water. You will first need to turn off power to the pool light at your breaker then go to the pool light and remove the pilot screw which is located on the face ring of your light. Once the pilot screw is removed this will allow you to bring your entire light fixture up on to your pool deck where you can then replace the bulb. The replacing of the bulb is as simple as unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in the new bulb. I would also suggest replacing your lights lens gasket when replacing the bulb, the two most popular would be the Hayward Astrolite Lens Gasket and the Pentair Amerlite Lens Gasket. We also have a great Video on How to Replace a Swimming Pool Light Bulb which will walk you through the process.

is there a remote control to stop the changing colors or does it cycle the different colors constantly?
Reply
The light would be controlled through a standard light switch or your pool control system. Flipping your light switch on and off relatively quickly will cycle the light to the next color or next light show. There are 16 modes, 7 modes are fixed colors and 9 modes are rotating color shows.
Reply
Can the light be stopped on one particular color? I tried downloading the owners manual and there seems to be a bad link
Reply
Yes the light can be stopped on a color there are 7 fixed colors white, red, green, blue, gold, cyan and violet. You would cycle to the fixed colors by flipping your pool light switch relatively quickly. In addition to the fixed colors there are 9 color shows..... Evening Sea (slow animation of blue and red), Evening rivers (slow animation of green and red), Riviera (slow animation of blue and green, Rainbow (slow animation of all colors), River of Colors (slow animation of all colors followed by Four Seasons), Disco (fast animation followed by Rainbow) and Party (Fast animation followed by River of Colors).

What is the correct wattage for lighting equivelent to the existing 12V 300W bulb?
Reply
Hi Dane, I would suggest the 12V 35 Watt Pure Colors LED Pool Bulb as an equivalent replacement to a 12V 300 Watt Bulb.
Reply
What is the proper wattage of LED bulb for a 16' x 32' pool, we currently have a 12 Volt Hayward Astrolite.
Reply
For a 16' x 32' Pool I would suggest the 35 Watt Bulb, since you have a 12V pool light currently you would require the 12 Volt 35 Watt Pure Colors LED Pool Bulb
Reply
Would this be the proper bulb to replace a 12v 100 watt bulb
Reply
Hi RC, If your bulb is a screw in style bulb and the bulb measures roughly 5 inches to 6 inches wide then this would be the correct replacement for a 12V 100 watt bulb. If you have a smaller 100 watt spa light which has a bulb that measures roughly 2-1/2 inches across then this would not be the correct light. A few other measurements which may help.... normally this bulb goes into a pool light fixture where the face ring of the pool light fixture measures roughly 10 inches across. If you have a spa light fixture where the face ring measures roughly 5 inches across then this would not be the correct bulb. I hope that helps!

How do you change the colors and light show effects? Does it come with a remote control or an app you can control with your phone?
Reply
Hi Deanna, The changing of the colors is done by simply turning the power on and off to the light, normally the pool light is tied to a light switch so it is just a matter of flipping the light switch on and off to cycle to the next color or color show. There is not an app available at this time to control the bulb through a phone.
Reply
Would this type of bulb be sufficient to supply fiberoptic cable for lighting inyo waterfall feature.?
Reply
Hi Mike Unfortunately this would not be the correct item to light up a waterfall, since waterfalls are located above the waterline and this item is located underneath the water. If you pointed this bulb up towards the waterline the light dispersement stops at the waterline, we would suggest a LED Waterfall which has the LED lighting integrated into the waterfall.

How can I find out which bulb is for my pool?
Reply
Hello- To find out which light is right for your pool, you will need to find the model of the light that you currently have installed, as well as find out what voltage that light uses.
Reply
Can these lights be used to cycle colors when used on a timer and if you can when the timer goes off and turns back on will it be the color you had it on previously or will it change.
Reply
Yes the Pure Colors Bulb can be used to cycle colors with a timer and it does have memory so if the light is turned off for more than 20 seconds then the next time the light is turned on the light will remember the last color show it was on.
Reply
currently have a 500 watt light. I would like to replace it with a color changing light. I see you have a 35 watt led color changing light. Would this be suitable for a replacement?
Reply
Hi Charles, As long as your current bulb is a screw in style bulb and not a clip in style bulb then yes the PureColors 120 Volt 35 Watt LED bulb would be a suitable replacement.
Reply
I believe I have an amerilite pool light bur how would I know for sure? Also how would I know if it's 12V or 120V? Thanks You!
Reply
The best bet would be to remove the light fixture from the niche in the wall of the pool. To do this you will turn off the breaker to the light then get in the swimming pool and remove the pilot screw at the top of the light face ring. This will then free the light from the wall of the pool and you can bring the light fixture up onto your deck. There should be a label on the light housing which will give you the manufacture and model # of your light. If this information has worn off then you can check your dimensions against the Pentair Amerilite Dimensions or the Hayward Astrolite Dimensions and if they match up then this bulb will fit. The voltage information should be on the light housing but if it has worn off then you can remove the bulb from inside the light fixture and the voltage information should be right on the light bulb.

I want the Color LED bulb and wondering if your product will work for me.

Hi Victor if you have a 500W Bulb then it would be 120V and you would require the 120V PureColors LED Bulb and it will work with your Hayward Light We also suggest replacing your Hayward Lens Gasket when replacing your bulb.

Sorry this is probably a stupid question, I just just purchased a new home in Kissimmee and it has a pool with white light I would like to change it to the a color changing light but some told me I would need a transformer. My white bulb is still working so can't say what bulb I have at the moment. Yvonne
Reply
Hi Yvonne, The easiest way to tell which which voltage you have is to remove the bulb from your fixture and the voltage should be noted on the light bulb itself. We have a Guide on How to Replace a Pool Light Bulb that will show you how to do this. Also if you have a 12V light you should see a transformer which looks like the PX300 Transformer. If you have 120V lighting then you will not have a transformer and would require the 120V Pure Colors LED Bulb.
Reply
Thank you for your previous reply, I now have a note of the pool and spa bulbs the pool one has 300w R40 and the spa has par 16 60w. What colored LED bulbs would be the best to use? Also we have noticed sometimes when we put the switch to turn the light on it doesn't always go on and have to turn it off and on we have check there doesn't seem to be in loose wires in beside the switch any ideas? Thank you Yvonne
Reply
Hi Yvonne, Were you able to find the voltage on your light is 12V or 120V? If it is 120V then you can try the old bulb in a standard light fixture to see if you get the intermittent light turning on? If you don't get this issue on the household light fixture then you may need to replace your complete light fixture.

What is the wattage equivalent of this bulb compared to standard bulbs?

I have a 110 volt underground wire from the electrical box to the junction box by the pool deck. The light casing and wire connect at the junction box. Where does the voltage convert from 110v to 12v? I'm concerned that 110v current is "in the water" so to speak and could be a shock hazard. I recently moved to a home with a pool. The light is sitting outside the pool because when installed, you get a mild current sensation in front of the light. Hoping a 12v light might solve the issue. Thanks!
Reply
Ron, if the light is properly bonded than you should have no issues with a 120v light. Based on what you said about the sensation felt in front of the light I suspect that light is not bonded correctly. To be on the safe side and avoid the hazard I would suggest going with a 12v fixture. Keep in mind if your current is 120v then you will need a transformer.

I have a Hayward SP0590SL30 (100w, 12v, R20)
What LED color changing bulb do you recommend and what gasket do I need?
Reply
Brian, for your Spa Astrolite II 100W 12 Volt 30' Cord(DS) - SP0590SL30 we suggest you use the LED Spa Bulb Color Changing 12V 5W - PL5816. The correct lens gasket would be the Hayward Astrolite II SP590 Series Lens Gasket (spx0590g).

I have a American Products 300W, 12 Volts, R-40 bulb, it says series 7883XX, 7843XX,
What Led Color changing bulb can I use
I forgot to mention that I have a big pool approximately 10x30' with 2 lights will this still be bright enough or would (2) 35W be sufficient
Reply
My pool light is a Pentair Amerlite SS version. I know it is a 12v light bulb but it doesn’t say what wattage uses so I cannot compare it to an 18W or 35W LED bulb.
Also, according to this pics what type of gasket seems to be already installed (OEM or generic)? Should I buy the generic regardless? Thanks.
Baed on the image that looks to be an OEM as those are usually cream colored for Pentair. So for a pool light we would recommend an 18 watt for a smaller swimming pool and the 35 watt for a mid to large sized one adding a bit more lumens.

Thanks for the response. My pool is a kidney shape and it is 12,000 gallons. Is that considered small or medium?

You're very welcome and at that size, I would say just under medium so I would say use the 35-watt bulb.

I have the Pentair Amerilite P/N 99360000 pool light and would like to order an LED replacement light asap :) Can you tell me which one, which voltage and do I need a gasket kit or any accessories ?

Hi, Misty. Unfortunately, the info you provided is not sufficient to determine the voltage of your fixture. You will need to confirm if you have a transformer (12V) or not (120V). You will also need to replace the Lens Gasket - 79101600 (OEM), PL5851 (Generic), LPL-G-P (Heavy Duty).

Can these lights be used on an aboveground pool, assuming I'm willing to put holes in the side ?
Reply
Hi Jeff, unfortunately, this light is not compatible with an above ground swimming pool as the light fixture needs to be completely submerged. However, the Pentair Aqualuminator pool light model 98600000 is designed for an above ground swimming pool.

Will this bulb work with SP0591SL fixture?
This bulb does not fit in the SP0591 by Hayward. You will need this 120V LED Color Splash Bulb for the SP0591 light.

Is there a cheaper alternative to buying a replacement bulb for a Hayward ColorLogic ? I mean $700 to $900 for a light is , well, crazy. Thank you.

Hi William, you can also use a J & J Colorsplash LED pool light as long as your niche is a compatible model. Please see this datasheet to view the compatible niche models. Your niche should have the model marked on the inside of it.

I would like the 35watt. My pool is over 20,000 gallons. Does it make a difference for the 18watt?

Hi if you want to go with a brighter bulb then you could go with this Color Splash 12V 23W LED Bulb it will be a little brighter than the 18W but not by much. The 18W will be more than adequate for your size pool.

Hi Dennis, you have the Poolstar light which we, unfortunately, do not carry an LED bulb for that series however you can use a new complete Pentair Amerite and use an LED bulb with it or use the Pentair Intellibrite light.
