Can the light be changed without draining the pool?
Reply
Yes you can replace the bulb in your pool light with this LED bulb without needing to drain your pool water. You will first need to turn off power to the pool light at your breaker then go to the pool light and remove the pilot screw which is located on the face ring of your light. Once the pilot screw is removed this will allow you to bring your entire light fixture up on to your pool deck where you can then replace the bulb. The replacing of the bulb is as simple as unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in the new bulb. I would also suggest replacing your lights lens gasket when replacing the bulb, the two most popular would be the Hayward Astrolite Lens Gasket and the Pentair Amerlite Lens Gasket. We also have a great Video on How to Replace a Swimming Pool Light Bulb which will walk you through the process.

is there a remote control to stop the changing colors or does it cycle the different colors constantly?
Reply
The light would be controlled through a standard light switch or your pool control system. Flipping your light switch on and off relatively quickly will cycle the light to the next color or next light show. There are 16 modes, 7 modes are fixed colors and 9 modes are rotating color shows.
Reply
Can the light be stopped on one particular color? I tried downloading the owners manual and there seems to be a bad link
Reply
Yes the light can be stopped on a color there are 7 fixed colors white, red, green, blue, gold, cyan and violet. You would cycle to the fixed colors by flipping your pool light switch relatively quickly. In addition to the fixed colors there are 9 color shows..... Evening Sea (slow animation of blue and red), Evening rivers (slow animation of green and red), Riviera (slow animation of blue and green, Rainbow (slow animation of all colors), River of Colors (slow animation of all colors followed by Four Seasons), Disco (fast animation followed by Rainbow) and Party (Fast animation followed by River of Colors).

Can these lights be used to cycle colors when used on a timer and if you can when the timer goes off and turns back on will it be the color you had it on previously or will it change.

Yes the Pure Colors Bulb can be used to cycle colors with a timer and it does have memory so if the light is turned off for more than 20 seconds then the next time the light is turned on the light will remember the last color show it was on.
Reply
I believe I have an amerilite pool light bur how would I know for sure? Also how would I know if it's 12V or 120V? Thanks You!
Reply
The best bet would be to remove the light fixture from the niche in the wall of the pool. To do this you will turn off the breaker to the light then get in the swimming pool and remove the pilot screw at the top of the light face ring. This will then free the light from the wall of the pool and you can bring the light fixture up onto your deck. There should be a label on the light housing which will give you the manufacture and model # of your light. If this information has worn off then you can check your dimensions against the Pentair Amerilite Dimensions or the Hayward Astrolite Dimensions and if they match up then this bulb will fit. The voltage information should be on the light housing but if it has worn off then you can remove the bulb from inside the light fixture and the voltage information should be right on the light bulb.

My current bulb 300 watts seems to turn off every half hour as if it is overheating and than comes back on 20 minutes later. The GFI switch does not trip so I don't think anything is getting wet. Does the lower wattage mean it will produce less heat and consume less power? thank you

Hi Mike the lower wattage does mean that it produces less heat, the light also draws less amps meaning it costs less to operate. The issues you describe are common with needing to replace the complete light fixture.

I currently have a 120v color logic light (50' cable) that failed. It seems like replacing it with a fixture and replacement bulb is much more cost effective than another color logic. Can you recommend a fixture that would fit in the niche and the brightest color led bulb? Is it possible to buy the fixture without the incandescent bulb? How hard is it to successfully reseal the fixture after changing the bulb? Thanks!

Hi JT, Unfortunately, the ColorLogic does not have a replaceable bulb and this is one of the things I don't like about that light. I would suggest replacing the complete light fixture with the PureLine PureColors 120V Light Fixture w/ 50' Cord the PureColors does have a replaceable bulb so if the light bulb ever goes out you don't have to replace the complete fixture. The PureColors light fixture will fit in your Hayward Niche. If you have multiple lights then I would suggest replacing them all with the PureColors so they synchronize together. Hi Ash, We actually brought in a SP0570 light which should be the same as the SP0540 and the PL5809 did work on the SP0570 so I'm fairly confident the PL5809 will work on the Hayward SP0540 even though our website says the contrary. This PL5811 PureColors 120V LED Bulb will definitely work on the SP0540 but it has a few less LED's so the PL5809 will be brighter. If you want to try the PL5809 and it does not fit then you can return at no charge to you, if you do try the PL5809 then if you could report back to us if it works then that would allow us to help others with this light.

Thank you for the response, does the led light come with a remote to change the colors and also which is best seal gasket for the LED PL 5809 bulb.
Reply
Hi Bill the PureColors Bulb does not come with a remote control, you would use your standard light switch to cycle between the color shows. By simply flipping the switch you cycle through the colors, the bulb also has memory which is nice. The memory works as follows, if you find your favorite color show and the bulb is on that show for more than 15 seconds then the next time you power on the bulb it will start in that color show. For your American products light, I think this American Products Light Lens Gasket is the best.

I have a pentair p/n 78457100 with 500w 120v. I saw your video on colorsplash, using my light switch (which is fine, I don't need anything fancier). Then I looked at the price. But it seems you guys are recommending pureline, which seems to have one for $160. Is 35w equivalent to 500w, and what's the difference between colorsplash and pureline to justify the big price difference?
Reply
Hi, Randolph. The PureLine 35 watts LED bulb is equivalent to a 300 watt incandescent bulb. The ColorSplash bulbs were one of the first of it kind and still around. It is a great product.

I have a 500W Incandescent that i want to replace, preferably with an LED color changing. What wattage shall i look for to mimic the amount of light i was getting with the 500W? On your website I see up to 35W replacement LEDs but I'm worried it won't be bright enough to illuminate the whole pool. Thank you.
Reply
Hi, The brightness of a light is determined on the lumen rating and it is difficult to compare the brightness of a color compared to white light (i.e. comparing the brightness of red compared to the brightness of white). With this being said the best bet is to compare the lumen rating of white on the incandescent light the lumen rating of the LED on white. The standard lumen rating of a 500 watt incandescent light is 4,500 lumens where the 35 watt LED is about 2,800 lumens, so the LED will be a bit less bright. I have seen both styles of lights and I have not been able to see a significant decrease in brightness in the LED.

Looking to replace my 12 yr old 300W 120V incandescent bulb with a multi color LED. Is this a good choice? Thanks in advance!
This is an addendum to my first email.
I neglected to ask about our remote. We have a 12 yr old GoldLine remote that is the only way to turn on the light. Would this bulb still work? Replacing 300 W 120V incandescent R-40. Thanks
Hi Scott, Yes this bulb does work your remote, you will simply power the light on and off through the remote relatively quickly to cycle through the color shows. The nice thing is that the bulb has memory, meaning that once the bulb is off for more than 15 seconds then the next time the light gets powered on it will turn in the last color show the light was set to (i.e. your favorite color show).

Hi, I have an american products light niche, model # m-172803 from the late 80's and need to update the bulbs to led. I would like to purchase single color led bulbs in blue if possible. The pool is 30 x 50 and has 2 light niches, deep end is 12' deep. The label on light housing is missing the wattage, we can tell it should be 120volt. Which led bulbs would you suggest, and what gaskets should I order? 2 pictures of housing below, thanks for your help.

I chatted with someone a bit ago and got a bulb replacement number (PL5809). I called the Jandy folks and they recommended that the 'light engine' be replaced and not just the bulb. It worries me if they're saying I shouldn't just replace the bulb. Or course they would like for consumers to buy more stuff. Just want to make sure it's OK to just replace the bulb with the recommended PL5809. And it's easy to replace the bulb so that the unit remains water tight? Just making sure!

Mark, no, you cycle through the colors on the LED Pool Bulb Color Changing 120V 35W - PL5809 by relaying power on and off to the device. Anytime you turn the bulb off and on it will change to a different color or light show. At this time, there are no products in our inventory with that functionality.
