What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.
Reply
What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.

Hi Earl, I am showing that the JWPAS5F-2A4U is a 1-1/2 HP pump and would need our 1-1/2 HP JWPA Replacement Motor. When replacing your motor I would strongly recommend replacing your JWPA Shaft Seal as many times if you use your old shaft seal it will not mate up properly with the new motor and leaking will occur.

Hi Dan, This BN25 Thru Bolt motor is the correct replacement motor for the JWPA5EL2A2 pump. I will also recommend replacing the Shaft Seal OEM (37400-0027S) or Generic (PSR 201) and the Volute O-ring (5000-4053).
Reply
I need to replace my 12 year old JWPA5EL series 1 HP motor on 27 ft round, and I see the BN25 is the choice. 1) Would there be any gain in upgrading to the 1.5 HP motor w/same impeller? 2) Now, the shaft seal leaks, psi reads 14-15 (9-11 normal and I would clean cartridge @ 12), and water flow is pretty much abysmal. Is this attributable to the motor, impeller, leaking seal, or all? Note, I verified no restrictions to flow in the plumbing.
Reply
Hi Keith, There are no benefits upgrading to a 1.5 hp motor if you keep the same impeller. A leaking shaft seal does not lead to high filter pressure. You will have to replace the motor BN25, Shaft Seal and Volute O-ring along with the cartridge.

Hello, Larry. Unfortunately, this motor is only 115V. It would be the correct replacement motor using part number 7-177894-24 or 177894 for those whom are 115V only. The BN35V1 is the only dual voltage Thru-Bolt motor I have been able to locate. Using this motor with your existing impeller will be okay, because you have not decreased the size of the motor. Don't forget to replace the shaft seal any time your replace the motor or impeller.

Hi there,
I often find myself trying to find a replacement pump/motor for the Sta-rite LT 1/6hp, 115v, 1-Spd - LT1/6L. I understand that it has been discontinued, but I have not yet been able to find ANY volute/wet end that would discharge on the same side, and thus make it to so that ym customer does NOT have to change his plumbing around. I believe the volute has been discontinued, but does noone make a compatible one?
Please help me if you can.

The Gecko Alliance Circmaster 1/5 HP - 02593000-2010 and see if you can make plumbing changes to make it work for your application.

is this the correct pump to replace my burnt up pump.
Yes, the Century 1.0 HP Thru-Bolt 48Y Motor - BN25V1 is the correct motor for your pump. The amps confirm it, since the manufacturer put 1.5SPL horsepower on the label, which is not a standard term for anything. We recommend replacing the motor shaft seal when replacing the motor to ensure a leak-free installation.

Hi Kathy, the BN25V1 motor is the perfect replacement for the one in the picture. We do not have a Tune-Up Kit for your Hayward Power-Flo LX pump, so we recommend purchasing a new motor shaft seal and a new housing o-ring for a leak-free installation.

Hi - I have a Century 7-193004-20, s/n 04415J2, dual voltage 115/230 with an Aquatechnix PES90-11 housing. The BN25V1 is 115v. What motor is compatible?
Hi Mike, the BN25 motor will not work for your pump (the mounting flange will get in the way), and the original motor has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The best option for you is this BV91 motor. Since this is a 115-volt motor, remove the additional power wire if you are using 220 volts and replace the breaker with a single-pole breaker. We also recommend replacing the shaft seal and the casing o-ring when you replace the motor.
