I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
Reply
Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

I am replacing my pump and it's currently got 1.5" piping. Is there a way I can get this pump (with the 2" piping) to work with it?
Reply
This pump is only available in 2" ports however If you have 1.5" pipe it is not a problem to go up to the 2" ports on this pump and this can be accomplished by the purchase of two standard pipe fittings which can be purchased at your local hardware store. The problem would occur if you had 2" pipe reducing down to 1.5" ports as this causes a bottleneck, however going from 1.5" pipe up to 2" ports does not cause any issues.

Can you help me find replacement seals for this Pentair Whisperflo pump?
Reply
We have 2 different tune-up kits for the Pentair Whisperflo. The first one is for a standard pools and the second one is for saltwater pools. The saltwater tune-up kit comes with a heavy duty shaft seal and can be used on all Pentair Whisperflo pumps.

Is Up Rated ok or is Full Rated better? Would a energy efficient 1 horse power Full Rate be better than a 1.5 horse power Up Rated??

Hello Eddie. We get this question a lot. Full and Up Rated motors were the industries first attempt at making motors more efficient. This was before 2 speed and variable speed arrived. This is a link to and explanation of How To Understand True Pump Horsepower - Up Rated vs Full Rated. I believe it will answer all of your questions.

How many GPM does this pump output, at a 40ft head of water?
Reply
Hi Lisa, At 40' of head the Whisperflo WFE-4 will output 100 Gallons Per Minute (GPM). The WFE-4 is represented as the black line on the pump curve on this page.

I want to replace the motor on this specific PUMP WFE-4. Can you please refer me to the correct replacement motor. (salt chlorination pool)
THANK YOU!

Hi Roy, You would require the WFE4 Replacement Motor along with the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit for Salt Pools.

Is there an on/off switch?
Reply
This pump does not have an on/off switch. We would suggest a T104 Pool Timer for turning your pool pump on and off.

We have an above ground, 10-12,000 gal. pool. Need an energy efficient replacement pump. Can we use this one for above ground, and is it available in a 110 power cord plug-in?
Reply
Hi Stephen this pump could be used on an above ground pool but would require 2" hard plumbing and I honestly think this pump would be overkill for your pool. This pump does not come with a 110v plugin cord but you could purchase one seperatly or use your current cord. For your pool I would suggest a 1 HP Dual Speed Above Ground Pool Pump which will cost much less to operate than this pump and would be more well suited for your applicaiton. Also the dual speed above ground pool pump comes with a cord.

what is the difference between the WFE-4 and WFE-24
Reply
Jude - The actual or total HP ]THP] of a motor in equal to its stated HP x its Service Factor (SF). Although the stated HP for both WFE-4 and WFE-24 is 1 HP their actual or THP is: WFE-4 = 1 HP x 1.65 [SF] or 1.65 THP; WFE-24 = 1 HP x 1.25 [SF] or 1.25 THP. Bottom line: WFE-24 ihas 0.4 HP less than WFE-4.

I bought a house with a pool. It came with the WFE-4. The motor has gone out. Can I replace the single speed motor with a variable speed one or do I need an entirely new pump? If so, which motor do you recommend?
Reply
Hello Brandon, you can covert your single speed motor to the ECM16SQU variable speed motor. Also remember it is wise to change all the orings and seals when you change the motor. That will be part number GOKIT32 or if you have salt you would want to use GOKIT32SALT

How long is the warranty if you install it yourself. I have seen where the 1 year
warranty is only good if "Professionally" installed.
Reply
Hi Nick, The Pentair Whisperflo Pumps comes with a 1 year warranty if installed by a qualified installer and 60 days if not.

We currently have the 1HP WFE-4 pump motor. It has been recommended we consider replacing with a variable speed motor to have better efficiency. Does this make any sense and would it be cost effective? We were told it would save approx. $30-$40/ month
Reply
Hi Ron, You can switch to the V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange Variable Speed Motor (ECM16SQU) which will save on operating cost. The savings will vary depending on use, but switching to this motor will save you money. If you do replace your current motor, we also recommend getting the Pentair/Purex Whisperflo Tune Up Kit p/n GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT depending on method of sanitizer.

Can I put a 2-hp motor in a WFE-4 pump?
Reply
Heather, if you decided to go with a 2 HP Whisperflo Motor then you would also need to replace your impeller with a 2 HP Whisperflo Impeller and a Whisperflo Tune Up Kit. You will also want to make sure your filter can handle the increased flow of the pump, normally there will be a label on the side of your filter that gives a max flow rating and you want to make sure the 2 HP pump does not exceed this. Finally on a 2 HP pump you will need at least 2" plumbing and 2.5" would be ideal.

I have a 1H.P. pentare pump, WFE-4 on a 220 breaker.Three wires running to the pump,2 black and a ground.Do I attach only one wire to L1 on the back of the pump or one to L1 and L2 plus grounding of course. My pump runs at 100 GPM, to much for a 24 inch dia. sand filter isn't it or not.I think the filter has a G.m.p. of 48 gallons. Thanks Tom

Hi Tom, To wire the motor you have you will place one of the black wire on L1 and the other on L2 and the Ground. If your filter flow rate is 48 gpm, then yes, your pump is too big.

We just put in a new swimming pool three months ago and have been running a new 1 hp with whisper flow 24 - 7.
Our electric bill went from $150 to $450. Is there anyway to make this pump draw less electricity. One of the biggest selling points on this pump is that it is efficient? $300 per month is not efficient.
Do you have any suggestions as to how I can lower the electricity bill?
Reply
Hi Jim, Running a single speed pump 24-7 is costly, you may want to look into getting a dual or variable speed pump or motor. Its will allow you to operate the pump at different speeds to save on operating cost.

I cant start the pump what I have to do
Reply
There can be many reasons your pump has malfunctioned. I would start by making sure the breaker has not been tripped. You may need to contact a local repair technician to repair the pump or possibly the manufacturer to assist on the phone with troubleshooting. The manufacturer's contact number is 1-800-831-7133.

Can I get this WFE-24 unit with a variable speed motor
Reply
If you are looking to purchase the entire pump, the WhisperFlo only comes in single speed or dual speed. If you are looking for a replacement motor, that part number would be ECM16SQU. If you currently have a 1HP motor, you will need to upgrade to impeller as well if you upgrade to this variable speed motor.

I need a timer for this pump:Whisperflow-EE 1 HP- 2 speed WFDS-4 230 V so that I can turn it off and on. also I need a chloride generator that will work for my 11K gallon pool.
Thanks

You could go with the T106R for the timer and the IC20 for your salt system. Otherwise, you could go with the IntelliTouch with the chlorinator and you would be able to control your pump, salt system, lights, whatever other features you have. That is just an option. Let me know if you would like more information on that and I can send you a quote of the details and price.
