I just bought a variable speed motor from you guys and I'm installing it on a Dura Glas pump. It's a 1.65 v-green, variable from 600 to 3450 rpm. What impeller should I be using?

Can this motor be installed on a 2 HP Pentair Whisperflo pump?
Reply
Yes, it can be used on a 2HP Whisperflo but you would have to change the pump impeller. The 2HP impeller is too heavy for the ECM16SQU. The impeller that you would need is Pentair part number 073128 (5074-27B).

I would like to install this motor on my square flange Pentair 3/4 HP pump. From what I can see, it will fit and I have the right impeller. Is this correct? Along with the shaft seal, is there anything else I should look at or change while I am in there?

Hello Rod - The ECM16SQU will work with your pump and impeller. Besides the shaft seal, we would recommend replacing the diffuser o-ring and housing gasket.

Yes this variable speed motor would work on your 1 HP Sta-Rite Dynaglas. If you wanted to take advantage of the higher speeds of this motor then I would suggest upgrading to a 1-1/2 HP Dynaglas Impeller and a 1-1/2 HP Dynaglas Diffuser. Also when replacing your motor we would suggest a Dynaglas Shaft Seal.

Hello, will this motor fit the sta-rite Max-e-pro P6E6C-204L?
Reply
Yes this motor will fit your Max-e-pro P6E6C-204L pump. One thing to consider is that your pump is 1/2 HP and this motor can go up to 1.65 HP so to get the ability to use the HP above 1/2 HP you would need to upgrade your impeller and we would also suggest a tune up kit. Both of these items can be found on the Sta Rite Max E Pro Exploded Parts Diagram.

Hi, Bill. Swimming Pool Motors are usually classified under 56-frame (wider diameter) or 48-frame (slimmer diameter). As a follow up to my earlier question, if we install a solar system on a second story roof (9, 4x8 panels - total 288sf), would this pump (or any other vsp) be a waste of money? Specifically, if it ran at slower speeds to save energy, are those slower speeds (lower HP) enough to transport the pool water through all those collectors way up on the second story roof? Or is better to stick with a standard single speed pump motor?
Reply
Hi, John. It is best recommended to use at least a 2.0HP pump to supply sufficient amount of flow to the panels. When sizing a pump that is 2.0HP or greater it is required to have 2" or larger PVC. If you are thinking of converting to Variable Speed Pump I would suggest reviewing other options. When operating Solar Panels, you would set the equipment to operate at the higher speed. When the Solar Panels are not in use you can program the pump to operate at lower speeds. Operating Solar Panel with Variable Speed equipment is best used with an Automation System. 2. I would like to see a Amps vs RMP chart of this motor. But I checked online and could not find this type of chart.
3. Is this motor a magnet-driven motor like Pentair Itelliflo or just a direct driven motor?
Reply
Hi Bin, The ECM16SQU VS Motor will replace the 7-177475-20 motor. If your impeller and diffuser are in good condition you can reuse them. If not then you will need the following parts: Impeller - 073128, Diffuser - 072927, GOKIT32 and or GOKIT32SALT. We do not have the RPM vs RMP data on this motor. This motor does have the same permanent magnet design like the Pentair Intelliflo pump.

Hi John, It would less costly if you purchase an entire VS pump versus buying the motor and pump parts. If you do nit have 220 volt power you will have to upgrade your electrical to 220 volts. The EasyFit PNT 1.65HP Variable Speed Pump, or Raypak Variable Speed Pool Pump are good options.

I'm pretty confused (born that way). Good morning Paul, No you wouldn't be able to use your old impeller with this pump and if you have a 3hp impeller this pump would not be a good replacement. The max flow on this pump would only be half of your old pump and probably wouldn't even have enough operating pressure to create proper flow. How old is your current pump it may still be under warranty. What is the total hp on your current pump and I will find you a suitable replacement.

Yes, the ECM16SQU would be a great replacement variable speed motor for your pump. You do not need the tune up kit if you have replaced them in the past few years, but it is required to replace the shaft seal when you do a motor installation. That would be part number 5057-07.

Hello Jason, yes this motor would work for you, but to find your seal kit we would need to know what kind of model pump you have Sta-Rite: Max-E-Glas, Max-E-Glas II, Dura-Glas, Dura-Glas II, Dyna-Glas, Dyna-Max. Pentair: Whisperflo, Challenger, Pinnacle?

I have a Haywood SP2607X10 pool pump. can I convert this to a VS system with this motor and drive?
Reply
Yes you can use a VS motor on this pump housing. You can use either the ECM16CU or ECM27CU but just keep in mind that these have extra horse power to what was originally on that pump so you would need to dial them down as to not cause too much high pressure spikes.

I have an EOS pool controller. I called Inyo Pools today and the guy I spoke with said I could use this VS pump with my controller by using a CAT 5 cable. I took a look at the EOS controller and do not see an input for a CAT 5 cable at all.
Can I still use this VS pump with my whisperflow WFE4 and benefit from the VS without connecting it to my EOS system?

Yes, that variable speed motor will still work with your WhisperFlo without hooking it up to your automation system. You are able to control it manually from the control on the top of the motor.

Hello Bryan- The ECM16SQU 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor Square Flange would be the correct replacement variable speed motor to the QC1102. Please note that whenever you change out a motor on your pump, that we highly recommend that you replace the seals. We would need to know the make and model of your pump to determine the correct replacement seals.

Yes, I just need the model of either your motor or your complete pump. If you do not know, please attach a picture of your complete pump so I can identify what you have and find a suitable variable speed motor.

Will this fit on a Hayward Ecostar? The motor died and my pool is only 13,500 gallons and 3hp (2.7 century) seems a bit much. Would I need to change the impeller as well for the lower HP?

I would like to consider switching to a variable speed motor. Can you please tell me what would work in this situation. Current motor -serial: 24814J2 part: -F56AB33A01-
HP: 2.2, SF: 1.00, HZ:60 RPM: 3450 Volts: 208-230, AMPS: SF 9.6-8.8 The other part of the pump has this
info Model # BPA451V1 SER# 24814J2ML050341292. Thank you! Linda

Your WhisperFlo has a total horsepower of 2.2 so I would recommend the ECM27SQU because the 1.65HP variable speed motor has less total horsepower. With the ECM27SQU you can adjust the RPM's to a lower setting if needed but you do not want to decrease horsepower unless you know your system will be able to run efficiently at a decreased flow rate. Whatever motor you chose you will want a seal kit to go along with it, that is GOKIT32.
Reply
Is this the right upgrade for an AO Smith SQ1152 motor?
Reply
The total horsepower on your current motor is 2.2 so you would need to figure out if you want to decrease or increase your total horsepower. The ECM16SQU has a total horsepower of 1.65 and the ECM27SQU has a total horsepower of 2.7.

If you have the copper cone in between the seal plate and the impeller then you would go with the GOKIT6, if you do not have the cone then you would go with the GOKIT54. Either way the GOKIT54 will work if you remove the cone if you still have the cone in your pump.

Hi Zman, Going the Vgreen route you would need this Vgreen Motor at $399, Super Pump Seal Kit $37.95 and 1.5 HP Impeller $48.99 for a total of $485.94. The other option is going with a complete new PL2605 Pureline Prime 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pump $599 I would go with the complete new pump.

Hi, Ross. The ECM16SQU VS Motor can be used as a replacement for the HSQ165 Motor. You will not have to replace the impeller or diffuser if they're in good condition. The vs motor requires 230 volts so the wire would be the same if your current motor is wired for 230 volts. You would need the Max-E-Glas II / DuraGlas II Tune Up Kit - GOKIT38.

Reply
This would be a drop in replacement for your Pentair 7-177449-03, however, we would suggest upgrading your impeller to a 1.5 HP uprated impeller to take advantage of the higher HP range of this motor. If you could reply back to this email with the model of your Pentair Pump then we could suggest the proper impeller and seal kit. The most popular Pentair Pumps are the Whisperflo, Challenger and Super Flo.

The gpm rating varies between complete pump models and are not just based on the motors. For example, if you click here you can view the Hayward Super Pump gpm rating in the details. Once you confirm the front pump housing model that you have then look up its pump curve with the hp rating that the VS motor has.

Currently need a motor for my StaRite pump #P2RA5F-182L, w/ motor #5KC39UN6086X 1.5HP, 115/230, 56Y FR. Will this ECM16SQU motor work as replacement, and what other items should be also be replaced?
Reply
Hello, you can go with the ECM16SQU. Along with this, I would recommend getting the gokit54 to replace all of your seals. Please be advised that this seal kit is designed for pumps manufactured in or after 1998, so if yours is older you will need the gokit6.

Hello Tom, yes the 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor Square Flange would be the replacement for your motor. For the seals and gaskets, Do you have information on the front half of your pump? I would need the manufacturer and model which is usually located on a sticker or plate on the plastic housing of the pump. https://www.inyopools.com/Blog/pool-parts-101-the-difference-between-a-pump-and-a-motor

I have a Centurion B2854 sn 01516ch part # 0-f56aa40a01-24 pool motor, single speed 1.5 hp. Will this variable speed replacement fit my pump?
Reply
Yes, this variable speed motor is a replacement for yours. Just keep in mind that it isn't as wide as your current one so may not rest on your pump base and also it has the control panel on the motor itself so be aware in case your pump housing extends over the motor.

I have a Pentair WFE-8, 2HP. Can I use this motor to replace it? I have a 26500-gallon pool/spa. Thanks.
Reply
Hello, you could not use this motor on your WFE-8. However, you could use the ECM27SQU. Please be advised that this motor has a smaller bore than what your current motor is, so to account for this you must place something underneath the motor so that it is not dangling in the air. Along with this I would recommend getting the GOKIT32 or the GOKIT32SALT if you have a salt system.

How long does the ECM16SQU retain its settings (both the clock and programming) after a power failure, and when power returns what state is the motor in - for example, will it automatically resume its programming?
Reply
The motor should retain it's settings for at least 24 hours after power is lost. Once power is restored, it should run at the Step 1 program.

I have a PENTAIR WHISPERFLOW 1.5 HP pump and the motor is making noise (maybe bearings?). Wondering if I can upgrade the unit to a variable speed motor complete with the SCR programming feature. Can this be done, what is all I need to get to replace the motor unit?
Thanks,
Carlos
Reply
Hi Carlos, You could upgrade your motor to variable speed and this is the correct replacement motor for your 1.5 HP Whisperflo Pump as long as the SF rating on your motor label is not higher than 1.1. If you do have an SF rating like 1.5 then you would need the 2.7 HP Variable Speed Replacement Motor. In either case, you will also need a Whisperflo Tune Up Kit. I'm not sure what the SCR feature is that you mentioned? Is it possible you mean SVRS?

Hello, I have a Pentair Challenger pump with a Centurion 1.5hp (SF 1.1) motor. The pump seems fine but the bearings are shot on the motor and I'm looking to replace it with a variable speed setup for energy efficiency and quiet operation. My question is, am I better off getting just the motor (looking at this one) or the combo with the pump for a couple hundred more? Local “experts” have advised against doing the motor only, but it seems that the reviews and track record are good...

Can the digital instruction & programing module be turned around in a different position as the one shown indicates in the way I have to mount it to my impeller I would have to read it upside down which obviously would not be the easiest way to program or operate the variable pump.

Hi, Ron. Unfortunately, the controller cannot be rotated. You can upgrade the interface using the V-Green 270 User Interface - 2520652-001 and the User Interface Offboard Mounting Kit - 2512723-001.

I currently have a single speed Pentair Whisperflo 1hp, 1.25 Service Factor, 3450 RPM, Frame: P56. 40' +/- of head. No extra features such as waterfall or hot tub. FNS 48 DE Filter. Pool is roughly 21,000 gallons with 1.5" PVC plumbing. Is the ECM16SQU large enough to get the desired 1~1.5 turnovers a day with enough flow at the lowest speeds? I am on a time of use plan and this pump would need to run at the lowest speed for approximately 10 hours from 2pm to 8pm andother times at higher RPM's.
Reply
Hi, Brian K. Based on the info provided, this ECM16SQU motor will work. The lowest RPM that you will be able to operate the motor at will be 2450 RPM with approximately 20-25 GPM. Operating the pump from 2 pm to 8 pm is only 6 hours. To turnover your pool in 10 hours you will need a flow rate of 35 GPM, which will be about 3000 RPM's.

I have a "1.65 HP Variable Speed Pool Pump Motor" and it is starting to make a HIGH-PITCH noise.
The noise sounds like it is coming from the impeller area or
possible the bearing on the impeller shaft coming out of the motor.
I am having trouble getting a pool service person out to check the problem out.
My question is: "Has anyone else had this type of problem and if so then what is the actual problem?".
Reply
Mosty commonly the screeching sound coming from this area is either the motor bearings failing or for some reason or another, the impeller has begun grinding against the diffuser. It is common enough but not terribly.

My single speed motor just blew up so am looking at replacing it with this. Multi-meter shows my line voltage at 250 volts. I'm no electrician but I was expecting to see 110 + 110 (or at the most 115 +115). Since its only rated to 230 volts i'm worried I might fry it. Is it normal to see standard mains voltage so high?
Reply
Hi, Glyn. The voltage that you're registering is on the high side. Motors are able to handle +/- 10% of the rated voltage. If the voltage is too high, you will get a Fault error. I would recommend that you get an electrician to see if the voltage can be reduced.

You would need to change the impeller and we would recommend keeping a minimum of 2 hp hence the 2.7 variable speed motor because that was likely what the builder had calculated as what your pool system needed.

Thanks. Do I need any other parts to install motor?

It is highly recommended to replace the seals and gaskets as well but you will need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to in order to cross-reference that kit. If you are not sure of that information you can always email us images of that housing to upload@inyopools.com so we can try and assist you with that.

The two-speed pump requires one relay to turn the pump on and off and the second relay is used to switch between high and low speeds. When replacing your UQS1152R 1.65 HP Dual Speed Hayward Tri Star Replacement Motor you will also want to replace your Hayward Tri Star Shaft Seal.

I recently purchased this VS motor for my WF-28 pump, as per INYO recommendation, to replace my old SS motor. I am having a problem with the impeller binding up on the motor shaft when the unit tries to run. The motor runs for about 5 secs then stops. The impeller is torqued so tightly it takes me holding the impeller while someone else uses the 5/16th allen with a torque bar on the motor to break it free. Once the impeller is loose, the motor spins freely. What am I missing? Images to come.

Hi, Todd. This V-Green 1.65 is too small to use with the impeller of the WF-28. The impeller will need to be replaced with P/N 073128.

Hi, I've had this exact motor for 3 seasons, starting the 4th season now. Just today, the pump started over 2 hours early. The internal 24 hour timer has always worked perfectly, but for some reason it didn't today. This is a concern as I have a booster pump in series on a mechanical timer for my Polaris which requires the main pump to be on. Any idea on why this might have occurred and how I can make sure that it doesn't happen again? There were no power outages either. Thank you
Reply
Hi, Tony. This motor will only run when power from the external timer is applied. So if it starts pre-maturely, then the issue will be the timer, not the motor.
Reply
I determined the motor started prematurely due to the outside temperature falling below 39 degrees.. The motor has an anti-freeze setting that turns the motor on when the temp falls below a preset to prevent freeze ups. And my motor timer is disabled since this motor has its own internal timer.
Reply
I posed a question earlier today regarding the pump starting prior to the normal 24 hour timer. In reviewing the manual, I noticed that the motor has a 'freeze protection' mode. Our temps dropped to below 39 degrees last night and assuming that's why the motor started. Thanks -
Reply
In the event that the outside air temperature drops below a set threshold, the V-Green 165 will automatically turn on (assuming the START button has been pressed) and circulate the pool water. The Freeze Protection will run according to the following conditions (utilizing the factory default settings): Freeze Protection turn ON temperature = 39°F Freeze Protection Duration = 8 Hours

Absolutely! To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

See attached. Waterway Econo flo 2-speed hybrid ECONOHA-210. My LCD went bad and I want to replace with variable speed for a little more low speed power and better interface with the V Green 270 UI. Generally my pipe & housing seals are fine and replace regularly. I just read you should replace seals between the new motor and old housing when you add a new motor, shaft seal, etc. Is this correct? Pointing me in the direction of those types of seals would be helpful. Thank you.
Hi Tim, Thanks for the photos those are helpful! Yes we would suggest replacing the shaft seal and gaskets. Here is a link to the Parts Diagram for the Waterway Econo FLO ECONOHA-210 When replacing your motor we would suggest replacing the following parts Key #6 Shaft Seal, Key #5 Face Plate Gasket and Key #9 Diffuser Gasket. I hope this helps.

I just purchased a V-green 165 variable speed motor from you. My question is, for how many hours should I run the pump? (I have a 15,000 gallon pool). What would be a good timer program for my application? BTW, I live in a mild climate, in N/W California.
Reply
Ronald, the programming of the V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM16SQU will vary based on an individual's situation and is kind of a trial and error process most of the time. I suggest reading our article "Best Setup For Variable Speed Pool Pumps" which will give you tips on how to set up your variable speed pool pump to achieve the greatest performance and energy savings. That will give you a good foundation for the trial and error process I referred to previously.

Have 1.5 hp century see photo will the vgreen 1.65hp work ecm16squ I have a 30000gal pool
So due to the total horsepower of your pump you will actually need motor model ECM27SQU.
Reply
Will the impeller work that I currently have photos attached
Hi Scott, That motor information helps a lot. Your pump has a true HP of 2.2 HP so if you stayed with the same impeller you would need to go the 2.7 HP motor and if you wanted to go to the 1.65 HP then you would need to replace your impeller with this. 1.5 HP Uprated Challenger Impeller
Reply
This or the 2.7? I have a Whisperflo WFDS-26 2-speed. Uprated 1.5/.25 1.10 sf. 2 inch ports.

Hi, Steve. This ECM16SQU will operate the Whisperflo WFDS-26 pump. You will also need the Whisperflo Tune Up Kit GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.

This motor will mount up the Pentair Whisperflo series pool pumps. You may need to make sure that seal plate is sitting correctly but this motor is compatible.

need to double check my research. I have Sta-Rite system MAX-E-Glas II, with pump model P4EA6E-186L (1HP). Since I live in California, I need to upgrade to a variable speed pump. Am I correct that the PART # ECM16SQU is the correct replacement motor, and PART # GOKIT38 would sill be the correct replacement seal kit.
Hi David, Thank you for the photos those are quite helpful. Everything you stated is correct and you will need the V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM16SQU and the GOKIT38 Seal Kit.

My current motor is a 56J frame, 1HP, single speed. My housing is Hayward SPX1600AA super series, square flange. I want to upgrade to a varible speed motor. Will this fit my housing? The frame number is different. Do you have a VS motor that will fit?
Reply
Hi. This ECM16SQU motor will not fit, you will need the ECM16CU - 1.65 HP 56J Variable Speed Motor. You will also need to get the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit - GOKIT3 or GOKIT3SALT.

I see a couple of responses on here for the STA-RITE PHK2RA models. I have a PHK2E6E-102L pump. I am not sure what the difference is between the E and the RA models but they seem to have a different flow profile. For my PHK2E6E-102L pump is this motor still an appropriate match for the stock impeller? Thanks
Reply
Hello - the 'E' version of the StaRite Super Max means it the energy efficient (EE) version; whereas, the RA version is the standard efficiency motor. The ECM16SQU will be a correct match for your PHK2E6E-102L.

Is thie V-Green 165 variable speed pool pump energy star rated? Thanks, Mike

Only whole pumps are listed as being Energy Star certified. But the Pureline Prime 1.65 VS uses the V-Green 1.65, and it is Energy Star rated.

Hello - It looks like this is the correct motor to replace the one on my waterway pool pump. My motor works but the all of the buttons on the control board have stopped working. Can you purchase the control unit separately and if not can you confirm that this replacement will work?
Hi, Brad. Unfortunately, the current interface cannot be replaced. However, you can use the V-Green 270 User Interface - 2520652-001 or the VLink - VL100 to controller the motor since it still runs.
Reply
So if I go with the VL-100 it would completely bypass the existing interface that is attached to the pump instead of working in conjunction with it. After reading up on the issue I'm having I'm thinking water has gotten into the existing interface.

Hi - I want to use this to replace a QC 1072, .75HP. I understand it's a drop-in replacement... but what seal kit do I need? It's on a Sta-Rite MOD P6E6D - 2051 CODE 1MO5R (may be 1HO5R).
Also - we will be installing solar heating on the roof. Will this pump be able to handle the additional flow required to pump up to roof? Thanks!
Reply
Hi, CB. You are able to use this ECM16SQU as a replacement along with the Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Tune Up Kit - GOKIT79. As for solar, you may need to increase the impeller and the diffuser to match if you need motor water flow.
Reply
So I purchased the VGreen 165 (208v) and replaced my older QC 1072 (120v) ... and it sure seems like the VGreen motor is slightly louder than the QC 1072, even at the same or slightly lower rpms. It's kind of a med/hi pitch whirring/whine. Does this sound right?

I have an SP3207EE and am considering this motor instead of the typical one-speed replacement. Since this is somewhat higher rated at max speed, would there be any value in many swapping the impeller for the SPX3210C? I'm happy NOT to swap it if it won't help, but I don't want a mismatched setup either. Thanks!
Reply
Hi, Eric. You will not need to replacement impeller if the water flow was sufficient using the SPX3207C impeller. Only if you want to increase the water flow, then you will want to replace the impeller with SPX3210C, you will have to make sure you filter is large enough.

Hi Michael, yes the V-Green 1.65 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM16SQU would be the correct motor replacement for the Whisperfli. We would also recommend changing out the seals and gaskets which would be a GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT.
Reply
Is this the right variable speed replacement for this pump and single speed motor?
Yes, the ECM16SQU is a direct replacement for the 3/4 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2852
Reply
Anything else to get? Tune up kit? Upgraded impeller?
Reply
You really do not need to upgrade your impeller unless you have to get full power out of the upgraded total horsepower motor. Also, for a chlorine pool, the seal kit is the GOKIT32 and for a saltwater pool, the seal kit is the GOKIT32SALT.

Hello, You would have to go with the larger vsp motor. The eco star only comes in 3 HP and only has a 3hp impeller. Impellers are rated at the horse-power. This would be the motor we would recommend. http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00000017069223.htm

The ECM16SQU Variable Speed motor listed on this page is a Square Flange Motor and is not compatible with your pump also that motor is only 1.65 HP and your current motor has a true HP of 2.2 HP so you will require a 2.7 HP replacement, so you would require the round flange 2.7 motor. Hi, You would do all of the programming for the speeds on the V-Green directly on the controller of the V-Green motor and then the Aqua Plus can be set to turn the V-Green on and off and once turned on the programming settings from the V-Green would take over from there. If you wanted to change the speed of the pump that cannot be done from the Aqua Plus and that would be done directly on the V-Green controller.

Hi. Please confirm the ECU16SQU is the right replacement for the Stealth Pump and motor (pic attached) and advise whether an impeller upgrade is recommended. Please also advise the correct seal kit. Note the pool has SWCG.

Hi Christopher, for us to suggest the proper seal kit could you send a photo of a wide shot of your complete pool pump to show the pipes going in and out of the pump? Also the model number and the serial number of the pump? You do not necessarily need to upgrade the impeller unless you need to get the full strength out of the motor. If it has higher horsepower and you have not added any new features to the swimming pool then you may not need the entire motor strength. To supply this photo simply click the reply link below and upload your photo or quickest provide them using our live online chat feature. Yes this would be a suitable replacement to your Superflo VS. However, if you have an indoor control system that controls your pool equipment then you will get less readout on the indoor control system. If you don't have an indoor control system then all is good.

I am looking to upgrade to a VS pump and am wondering if I should change out the motor and impeller or replace entirely. My current motor is a 1HP Century on Hayward housing into a DE filter (2420). The motor is very loud and I believe it is undersized for my system which is a 30,000 gal pool. Takes a solid 5 minutes to prime each startup. Photos attached. It appears that the motor is a replacement and I am unsure of its age - I am not the original owner. The pool is about 20 years old.
Hi Jonathan, Yes you can upgrade the motor on your Hayward Super Pump to this 1.65 HP Variable Speed Motor If you wanted to take advantage of the higher speeds of this motor then I would suggest upgrading to this 1-1/2 HP Super Pump Impeller and you will need this Hayward Super Pump Seal Kit when you replace your motor. Hi Jesse, you do not necessarily need to replace the impeller and diffuser unless you know that you will need to utilize the additional horsepower the motor has. If you do, then the impeller part number is 5057-08A, and the diffuser is part number 5057-09A.

Hi Doug, you don't have to upgrade the impeller but if you know that you will need all of the motor capacity then yes the impeller part number 5020-092 would be correct. You would also need to upgrade the diffuser being part number 5020-096.

I replaced my Jandy stealth single speed pump with a Jandy epump variable speed pump just under 3 years ago. The epump motor has since stopped working. I believe the stealth was 1.5 hp while the epump is definitely 2.7 hp. I am not sure why the pool company increased the hp. If i originally had 1.5 hp can I go back to 1.5 hp and should I? I have read that the higher hp can damage my pool equipment. I need to verify all of this understanding with previous photos.
Reply
Hi Max, We would suggest going back to the 1.5 HP however if the pool company replaced the impeller to a 2.7 HP impeller when they replaced the motor then you will need to replace your impeller with the 1.5 HP impeller. You would require this 1.65 Variable Speed Motor and this 1.5 HP Impeller Kit Please note if you have an automated control system like the Jandy AquaLink then you would not be able to control the speeds of the pump from your indoor controller. All of the programming is done on the on-board controller of the motor. The automation system would just power the pump on and off and the programming you set on the motor controller would take over from there. When replacing your motor you will also need this Jandy Stealth Shaft Seal.

I currently have a STA-RITE Model MPFA6E-146 with a Century HSQ125 motor with 48Y mounting. I am considering using the V-Green 085-156 variable speed motor. Is this a direct replacement. I don't see myself using the higher speed settings and may want to forego the 1.5 hp impeller upgrade.
Will the V-Green be a bolt on replacement?
Thanks

Hi.
I have a Challenger CHII-N1-2A pump, with a Century B855 motor. My pool is 18K gal. The water feature and pool cleaner have their own pumps.
Will this VS motor work with my Challenger pump or do I need to get the 2.7HP one? That seems like too much HP.
If I get this 1.65 VS motor, will I need a new impeller and diffuser?
Thanks.
Reply
Hi Ashish, the correct variable speed replacement motor for the motor catalog number B855 is the ECM27SQU. You can dial down the RPM on this motor if need be and do not need to change the impeller and diffuser as you should not need the maximum 2.7 hp from the motor. You will also need a Pentair Challenger Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

I just ordered this motor and GOKIT32. I am replacing Century Motor B2661 3/4 HP. My pump is the WhisperFlo WFE-3 3/4 HP. Do I have to replace the impeller and diffuser or can I keep the existing ones. Thanks.

Hi Edward, most often the impeller and diffuser can be used again unless they have been badly worn, cracked, or heat warped.

I have an older Pentair Pinnacle (part # 342351) pump for a 10,000 gallon saltwater pool. I'd like to upgrade the motor to a variable speed but only saw info on the newer Superflo pumps. First question, can I use this V-Green 1.65hp motor w/ my current pump? Second question, I assume I'd have to upgrade the impeller, diffuser and shaft seal? If so, are these the correct part #'s... Diffuser: 5003-10; Impeller: 5002-05CA; Heavy Duty Shaft Seal: 5250-210; also the Tune Up Kit: GOKIT78. Thanks!
Hi KC, yes this would be the correct variable speed motor. You do not necessarily need to replace the diffuser and impeller unless you need to get the full 1.6 hp out of the variable speed motor. If so, then yes this is the correct diffuser and you would not need another impeller. The seal kit GOKIT24 has all of the seals and gaskets needed.

Hello Ernest. Some programming notes; Please be certain the total time of programming for Speed and Duration 1-3 does not exceed 24 hours. The V-Green 1.65 programming cycle is 24hours, then repeats itself. To adjust the start time of the 24-hour cycle, start the motor at the desired time of day. Hi Jeff, You will have 2 options, Option #1 would be to replace with the exact same motor and controller you currently have which would be this Hayward Power-end Assembly for SP23520VSP MaxFlo VS I would suggest this route if you are using a Hayward indoor control system like the Prologic or Aqualogic as you can control all the speeds for the pump from the indoor controller. If you are not using one of these indoor controllers then the ECM16SQU motor on this page would work just fine. For either option, you will also need this Hayward Max Flo Shaft Seal.

Hi Rob, Yes this is the proper variable speed replacement motor for your WFE-4 pump. Unfortunately we do not carry the almond version, however the only difference is the color of the motor. You will need this Whisperflo Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We have put together this Video on How to Replace a Variable Speed Pool Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

I had a Vgreen 270 that had the bearings fail after warranty expired. I am replacing it with a Vgreen 165 and want to use the user interface from the 270 that is already wall mounted but I can’t find any instructions on how to install it. Is it just a matter of plugging the user interface into the Jack on the 165 and program the interface or is there additional settings on the 165?

Hello Harold. According to the manufacturer, Century, the User Interface from the V-Green model 270 is not transferable to the V-Green model 165. Hi Robert, the V-Green 1.65 HP Motor - ECM16SQU will be a perfect variable-speed replacement for your B2847V1. There is no need to replace anything other than the motor shaft seal and the motor o-rings when replacing the motor unless, of course, you notice something is damaged when you service it. Hi Joshua, your old motor has a horsepower rating of 1.5 with a service factor of 1.6 so it is 2.4 total horsepower (this article on Are All Motors Created Equal? explains it better than I can), so you would need this V-Green 2.7 HP Square Flange 48Y Variable Speed Motor - ECM27SQU. The ECM16SQU will be a perfect upgrade to your Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro 1 HP Up Rate Standard - P6RA6E205L. You can really save on your electric bill when you set up your variable-speed motor correctly. Don't forget to order a Tune Up Kit for Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro to ensure a leak-free installation.

Hi Don, a variable-speed motor will save you a lot on your electric bill when it is set up properly. Your Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro has a 1-1/2HP motor but with a service factor of 1.5 so the total HP (click here for the explanation) is actually 2.25. You will need this V-Green 2.7 HP Variable Speed Motor - ECM27SQU and the GoKit79 for the seals. We do not have a saltwater version of that kit, so order the Heavy Duty(Saltwater Pools) Shaft Seal PS-3868 in addition to the GoKit.
Reply
Thanks that is great information. I checked in my notes from my pool service they recommended whenever the time comes to replace that motor it could be a 3/4 hp motor ( don’t know about the SF). Does that make sense or change the variable speed motor recommendation?
Reply
If the total HP on the motor is 2.25THP as shown in the images, it is best recommended to replace it with the ECM27SQU if you are seeking the most energy-efficient way to operate the circulation pump. The motor has the technology to circulate the water based on the weight of the impeller from 0.5THP to 2.70THP. If you only reduced to a 3/4THP motor you will run the risk of not having enough pump for priming purposes and circulation using the single speed 3/4HP motor and you will require changing the impeller and diffuser to meet the needs of the lower HP single speed motor.

Is this motor a suitable replacement for a Century ST1152? It’s attached to a Hayward SP2610X15 pump. Any references for seal or upgrade kits would be great as well. Thanks!
Hello Jon. The Century Motors 1.65HP (1.65 total horsepower, THP) ECM16SQU by itself would not be a suitable replacement for the Century Motors ST1152 (2.20 total horsepower). The Hayward Super Pump VS Motor Upgrade Kit - 1.65HP - MKIT3VS16 includes the necessary impeller replacement, shaft seal, and gaskets for the Hayward Super Pump SP2610X15. If your pool circulation system has roof-mounted solar heating panels, water fountains, or other features you may consider the Hayward Super Pump VS Motor Upgrade Kit - 2.7HP - MKIT3VS27. The MKIT3VS27 would be more capable of matching the water flow volume of the SP2610X15 with the ST1152.

Hello, unfortunately this would not be the variable speed motor replacement. It would actually be the ECM27SQU which is currently not in stock however you can add yourself to a list to be notified when it is. The direct single speed replacement motor is the model B849. Will this be a good unit to replace the original marathon 5SME29DFT001 RB003 currently installed? It's not moving much water in a 30k gallon in ground. Currently it keeps cycling and sounds like the bearings are square. Does this have similar power requirements?

Hi, We bought 2 replacement pump motors from you a few years ago that are still working great, but I want to replace the filter pump motor with a variable speed pump motor. I will leave the in ground cleaning motor as a single stage. The motors that we got were '1 HP Standard Motor - Full Rate (B2848) according to our receipt.
Is this the correct motor-and what tune up kit do I need? I believe that I have an extra kit (from another supplier) but it can't hurt to have another available. Thanks
Hello Bruce, yes this variable speed motor is compatible to replace your current motor model B2848. The correct seal kit for the Pentair Whisperflo pool pump in a standard chlorine pool is the GOKIT32 and the tune up kit best for a saltwater pool is the GOKIT32SALT.

Hi, is there a version of this that runs on 115V? I'm trying to replace a Dura-Glas C48L2PA105 single speed. Thanks!

Hello Jordan, the option for a variable speed motor replacement for your motor model C48L2PA105 is the EVQ225. We also recommend replacing the seals and gaskets when replacing a pool pump motor. Please click here to view your seal kit options. Yours will depend on whether your swimming pool is a chlorine or saltwater pool and the pump year of manufacturer. Pre 98 models have a copper cone around the shaft seal and after 98 does not as a tip.

Can I replace my current SuperFlo high performance pump motor (Model SF-N1-1A / Part # 340038) with a more energy efficient variable speed motor? If so, what are my choices and what else would I need?
Reply
Hello, You would be able to replace your current motor with either the ECM16SQU or the EVQ165; these are higher HP motors, but because they are variable-speed, you can throttle down the RPMs as needed. To use these motors, you would need to replace the impeller and also replace the seals on your pump-- to replace those components, you would want to purchase Pentair Impeller for Challenger 1 HP Full Rate 1.5 HP Up Rate- 355074 and the Pentair SuperFlo, Sta-Rite SuperMax Saltwater Seal Kit - Model GOKIT78SALT.

I have Super Max 1.5 HP Pump - PHK2RA6F103L pump, but its motor was replaced with a Century HP 1.0, Service Factor 1.25, CAT B2853 motor. The motor has gone bad and makes loud noises (looks like has salt buildup on exterior. I switched to saltwater a year ago), so I want to replace the motor with this V-Green 165 motor and get the GOKIT78SALT.
Do I need to change the impeller & diffuser?
And for future reference, which impeller & diffuser does the V-Green 165 need?
Reply
You would want to replace the impeller to protect against potential overheating, and the impeller and diffuser you will need will be dependent on your pump housing. For your pump, you would want to purchase the Pentair Impeller for Challenger 1 HP Full Rate 1.5 HP Up Rate- 355074 and the Diffuser for Pentair PacFab Sta-Rite SuperFlo, SuperMax, Pinnacle Pool and Spa Pump, 1.5-2.0HP - 355618.
