I have a Hayward Supper II single speed 1 1/2 HP pump. What do I need to consider to replace the single speed motor with a dual speed motor?
Reply
Check the SF on the old and new motor. The product of the SF and HP has to match. If your old motor has a SF of 1.0, its actual HP is 1.5 (1.5 HP x 1.0 SF). If that's true you should replace it with 1 HP dual speed motor (STS1102). With a SF of 1.5, its actual HP is 1.5 (1.0 HP x 1.5 SF). Also be aware that you will have to buy a hi/lo switch. It is not provided with the motor.

Will the AO Smith UCT1152 cost less to run than the UST1152?
Reply
Yes, the UCT1152 will cost less to operate compared to the standard UST1152. Depending on how the motor is cared for, it should last several years. When replacing the motor, I would recommend buying a tune up kit based on your pump model and age.

I want to upgrade my Hayward Super Pump motor from 1 hp to 1 1/2 hp. Will the UST1152 replacement motor fit the SP2607X10 1hp pool pump?
Reply
Yes, the UST1152 would be the correct 1.5HP motor for the Super Pump. If you upgrade the motor, you will need to upgrade the impeller. Part number SPX2610C (5110-10DA) would be the correct impeller for the 1.5HP Super Pump.

My current motor is a 1.5 hp model K48m2n123. Can I use this(C48L2N134) or do I need to replace it with UST1202. Also do I need any additional parts?
Reply
Hello Joe - You would not want to use the C48L2N134. Your current impeller is too heavy for the C48L2N134. The UST1202 would be the correct replacement motor. We would recommend replacing the shaft seal and o-rings. The UST1202 is used on several pumps. You will need to determine the make and model of your pump. Once you have determined the make and model you can find the replacement parts on our Pump Parts page.

Will this pump be the replacement for a C48L2N134B3? I see it listed below but want to make sure. If so what is the deal with the different numbers?

Yes that is correct. This motor UST1152 is the replacement for the C48L2N134B3 you had mentioned.

My pump was leaking so I replaced all the seals but it still leaks. The shaft was pitted from the corrosion would that be the cause of the continued leaking? If it is then does the motor have to be replaced?
Reply
MIke - A severely pitted shaft could cause the motor to leak. If it's not the seals or seal plate, it could be the damaged motor shaft.

Is a new pump seal included with the motor?
Reply
I see that this is the replacement motor for my C48L2N134B1. Now, I just read an entry where a gent asked if the replace motor came with a replace "seal" and the answer was "no". For my motor, does you replace come with one or is a seal even necessary, I don't know? Is it highly recommended? Or is it a Must. And if not included in your Motor, and needed, the Part # and do you carry, is it in stock, and your price? Thanks!
Reply
Seals do not come with any replacement motors. Replacing the shaft seal is highly recommended. Lastly we would need the model of the rest of the front plastic model of the pump that the motor mounts to in order to locate the part number and price of the seal.

Hi Tim, Yes this would be the direct replacement for the EUST1152. We do carry the seals but we would need to know the model of your pump to let you know which seal you need. The most popular pump that this motor goes onto is the Hayward Super Pump.

I installed a new 1 1/2 hp pump over the weekend.
Yesterday evening the pump stopped pumping water but the motor was still running just fine.
I believe the impeller must have fallen off. Is there a tightening spec for how tight to screw on the impeller?
Reply
Steven, The impeller is threaded onto the shaft. The impeller should be threaded on hand tight. Overtightening will cause damage to the motor and impeller.

I have a Hayward Pump (SP2615X20) with a Emerson motor (EB796), Cover (SP2600B), Impeller (unknown P/N), Seal plate (SP 2600E5), Motor Plate ( (SP1600F3). I need a new motor (UST 1152), seal and impeller - what parts do I need? What about if I step up to a 2 HP motor (UST 1202)?
Reply
Hi Doug, Your Emerson EB796 motor is a 1-1/2 HP Full Rate Motor which is equivalent to the Up Rated 2 HP UST1202 Motor so you would need the UST1202 2 HP motor. The part # of SP2615X20 indicates that your pump is a 2 HP uprated pump so at some point your motor must have been replaced with a 1-1/2 HP full rate motor which is not a big deal since it is the exact same as a 2 HP uprate motor. For your motor replacement I would suggest the Hayward Super Pump Tune Up Kit which includes all the seals and gaskets for your pump. I would also suggest the 2 HP Up Rated Hayward Super Pump Impeller. The ordering of the Motor, Tune Up Kit and Impeller should get you all squared away.

John- The sp2607x10 is a 1 HP pump which would require a UST1102 . If you decide to go up in horsepower you would need to change your impeller to a SPX2610C (5110-10a). I would also recommend changing the shaft seal which is part SPX1600Z2 or getting the tuneup kit GOKIT3.

Scott - It may well be the start capacitor especially if you can hear it humming while it is attempting to start. Or it may have failed all together. The start capacitor for the UST1152 motor is 5270-14. Please note that capacitors store an electric charge and should be handled with the utmost caution and care. Is the replacement motors new or rebuilt. Is it pretty easy to put a new motor onto your pump. I have no current leaks will I need a shaft seal when I swap motors?

These motors are new. We always recommend a seal kit be purchased when replacing the motor. We would need the model of the front pump housing that the motor is bolted to in order to cross reference the kit.

I have an AO Smith ST1152, 3450 RPM 1.5 HP motor. I replaced the capacitor on it a couple of days ago to start it. It is extremely noisy now and I suspect bearings. My motor has the external capacitor on it like the A.O. Smith Round Flange 1 1/2 HP Full Rate Motor. Will the this motor replace the one with external cap? The nomenclature plate seems to have the same specs. I am a commercial HVAC tech and may just replace bearings and seals if available.

I was told that a SF 1.3 was more energy efficient than an SF 1.0. Is that true?
Reply
The SF (or service factor) when multiplied by the HP (or horsepower) will determine the true HP of your motor, but has no bearing on efficiency per say. For example, if you have a 1.5HP motor with a 1.0SF, you have a true 1.5HP motor. If you have a 1.5HP motor with a 1.1SF, you have a true 1.65 motor.

The only seal that comes with it is the water slinger that is on the shaft of the motor. You would need to get a tune up kit if you wanted to seals and gaskets. Hello Tony- Based off the part number you provided c48k2n143b1, the correct motor for you is the A.O. Smith 1 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor - UST1102. Using the Century 1.5 HP Round Flange Up Rate Motor (C48L2N134) Formerly A.O. Smith - UST1152 without changing the impeller or checking if your filter can handle the added flow could damage your filter and/or motor.

The pump is leaking. There is a rubber band type seal between the motor and pump housing. It's difficult to get seated properly and water started coming out down below. After talking with a friend in the business we followed his suggestion of applying silicone and it still leaks. The spring loaded ceramic seal provided for the original inner seal but wouldn't fit due to the i.d. of the metal ring. We used the original spring loaded ceramic seal (it has no metal ring). Suggestions? Thanks.

I would recommend replacing all of the seals and gaskets and inspect the pump parts for any damage such as cracks or warping. In order to cross reference the correct seal kit for your pump you will need the front pump housing model name or number that the motor bolts to. If you cannot locate that information then you can send a few images of that housing to our support request page.

I bought the 1hp version of this motor from you last year and now it stops running and is super hot in under 30 mins. Would the 1.5 hp version run better? The 1hp version even when new would always shut off constantly on hot days. Never had this issue with any previous pumps that were installed. 1 lasted 7 years.
Reply
Hi Joe, you wouldn't happen to have the motor information from the motor you replaced? By chance you could have replaced a 1 HP full rate motor with a 1 HP uprate motor which would have overworked the new motor. I would suggest going with the 1.5 HP replacement as the motor will be under less stress and should last longer.

I'm replacing a Hayward 1HP pump. Is it ok to upgrade to this pump? Will it make much difference?
Reply
Hi, Jamie. If your goal is to increase the water flow you'll need to replace the impeller of the pump. If you do not change the impeller and increase the motor the water flow will not increase. It will only make a difference if you change the pump's impeller.

Just bought a new motor. I couldn't get the motor mount plate off the old pump so I bought a new one. I used all other old parts. Put it together. Its leaking. Not between the pump House n motor mount. Looks like between the shaft seal n motor mount. Where do I go wrong?
Reply
A number of things may have gone wrong but most often it is due to a seal or gasket being, bad or dirty. Sometimes it is the condition of them over time and other times one could have somehow gotten compromised during installation. We would recommend inspecting all seals and gaskets. Inspect the housings and parts and go back over installation process.

Igor, If the housing is still in good shape, you can replace the motor and seals. Century makes the Hayward motor. The gold color is Hayward's trademark color. The replacement motors can not be the same color. The only difference between the 2 motors is the color. The motor model number we have listed, is a partial one. There are many different variations on the model number. You should be able to find your exact model number in the alternate part numbers list.

I have a Hayward Super II Pump with this motor. It's old and the motor is rusted out...could be 20 years or more! The past week the water flow has been steadily decreasing, and now flow starts out at 50% of what it used to be and drops more and more as it runs. I checked all my lines for air leaks and replaced the pump gaskets, and no matter what source in and water out valves I switch to it's still very slow. Could the motor old and tired, losing power as it runs and not keeping the RPMS up?

It is possible that the motor is having issues with RPM's but that doesn't happen too often. It is also possible there is a pump priming issue. Please view the results here to view a few how-to guides to try and assist in locating other options as to what may be causing your issue.

Hi, Bruce. The next size up will be the UST1202. To achieve an increase in water flow, you will also have to replace the impeller and the diffuser and or other parts depending on the type of pump you have. It can cause filtration and other problems if your system cannot handle the increased water flow. You can use Inyo's How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool, How To Size a Pool Filter and How To Measure Total Dynamic Head With Gauges guides to assist you in confirming if a 2 hp pump will meet and not exceed your pool needs.

I received the A.O. Smith 1.5 HP Round Flange 56J Up Rate Motor - UST1152 motor to replace my pump motor. The new motor came with a rubber thread protector on the shaft threads as well as a rubber washer/gasket on the shaft. Those gaskets are referred to as slingers that sit on the shaft of the motor against the face of it, and do not need to be removed.

I just asked the other day about replacing my 1.5 hp pool motor, and you mentioned that I should also purchase a GoKit2salt. Although I do indeed have a salt water pool, the cost of the GoKit2salt is about twice the cost of the GoKit2, so I guess my question is: Do I need to purchase the GoKit2salt, or can I get by with the GoKit2. The pool pump housing is a Hayward Super Pump II.

We do always suggest a Seal Kit when replacing a motor. To determine the proper seal kit we will need to know your pump make and model information, common pump names would be Hayward Super Pump, Hayward Super II, Hayward Max Flo, etc.. To supply this information click the reply link below, also if you could send a few photos those are always helpful as well. If you send photos then take a close up shot of the motor label as well as a wide shot of the complete pump to include the pipes going in and out of the pump. To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos. Once we get any of this information we can make the proper recommendation.

Did replace 1-1/2HP Century C48L2N134B1, which is SP1610Z1M, with UST1152 1-1/2HP up rated motor had big problem with shaft being too long; when first put together impeller was grinding against the entrance of diffuser and seal did not seat correctly, spring notcompressed enough, so there was a water leak through the bottom drain slot. I assume the Century UST1152 motor was put together incorrectly since it's supposed to be a clear replacement for the Sp1610; is that correct???

Yes, you could upgrade to a higher horsepower, but that is not a guarantee it will fix your issue. You may be having a voltage issue that is causing premature failures of your motors. You may also want to check the part number of your pump impeller to confirm you have been buying the correct horsepower motors.

Do you have information on the front half of your pump? The best place to find your pump model information is on the pump housing tag. Pool pump manufacturers label each housing with make and model information as well as serial numbers. The pump model number is the golden ticket to finding the proper tune up kit, so we will want to find that most of all. The tag is usually placed on the side of the strainer basket or near the discharge port for easy access. Model number formats vary depending on the manufacture but should be marked clearly.

If the impeller or diffuser are severely worn, cracked or broken then yes I would recommend replacing these however, if not then they should be okay. Hi Larry, in some cases when a system isn't properly sized correctly and there is not enough flow, or when features are added to a system is it a good idea to upgrade the motor but most often keeping the same one is wisest. I have this motor and it won't start, just hums when turned on. My motor has a an external piece on the housing that I don't see in the picture. (see photo) One of the replies says this motor doesn't have a start capacitor, but the UCT1152 does have an external capacitor. Is that what I'm seeing on mine? If so could that be the issue causing the humming? This motor is just barely 2 years old. I really hope I don't have to replace it again. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Hi David, The UST1152 or the UCT1152 are not the correct replacement motors for the motor and pump in your photos. You would require this B2854 1.5 HP 56Y Replacement Motor Normally a humming sound indicates a bad capacitor. We have put together this guide which will show you How to Test for a Bad Capacitor if you do determine it is a bad capacitor then follow this guide here on How to Select the Proper Replacement Capacitor. If you do decide to replace the entire motor then you will need this Jandy PHPM Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Hi Mark, yes this is a compatible single-speed replacement motor for your motor model UCT1152 however it is the UCT1152 that is the direct replacement. Also, for the Hayward Super pump series, there are two seal kits. The GOKIT3 for a chlorine swimming pool and the GOKIT3SALT for a saltwater pool.

Hello- looking to replace my pool motor. It’s a century 7-184949-22. Picture attached. Any help is appreciated!
Looking to replace motor. Will this motor be compatible?
I go through a pump about every 4 years. The pool is 26,000 gallons. The pump is a Hayward Super Pump 1.5 HP. Should I move to a 2 HP motor.
If so, can I do so keeping everything else the same.
Hi Larry, if you were to go up in horsepower we would recommend going with a variable speed model so you would not be stuck with a high HP if the suction and water pressure ended up too much for your system. Here is a guide that we put together called "How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool" that may assist.

Yes, you could put a 2HP 2-speed motor on your Hayward Super Pump. The 2HP 2-speed motor is model STS1202. You can use your existing 1.5HP impeller and diffuser. However, if you want to upgrade those parts to take full advantage of the increase in flow, you'd need the 2HP parts. The impeller would be part number 5110-10F and the diffuser would be part number 5110-09EA.

Hello Weldy. Your current 2-speed motor has a total horsepower (THP) of 1.95. THP = HP X SF Information from your motor plate: 1.5HP X 1.3SF = 1.95. The correct single-speed motor replacement is the Century Motors 2.2 THP motor model UST1202. A slight increase in THP is acceptable. It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, seal plate gasket, and diffuser o-ring be replaced at the same time. I realize that i have cut back on actual horsepower,,,,but does this matter?
I used same original impeller.....will this present a problem with flow or overworking the motor.....motor is extremely hot after a few min or run time.

Yes, this will cause an issue. You need to use the proper HP motor that is the same as the HP rating of your pump. Just like you said the impeller and some of the other internals of the pump are made for the HP motor. I typically recommend if you want to decrease or increase your HP just swap out the entire pump. If you do not your pool pump motor will burn out.

My current motor on my Hayward Max Flo SP2810X15 is a ST1152. Your website says the replacement motor is a UST1152. Is there any difference or would it make a difference if I purchased the UST1152? I am not sure why we purchased the one we currently have. I did notice the Max load Amps are different and the SF. I am thinking that this current pump did not last as long as the previous ones.

Hello Craig. The Century Motors 1.5 HP Full Rate Motor model ST1152 has a total horsepower (THP) of 2.25. The Century Motors 1.5 HP Up Rte Motor model UST1152 has a THP of 1.5. The correct replacement for your ST1152 is another ST1152. The pump's impeller is mated to the THP of the motor. The impeller size determines the gallons per minute (GPM) the pump is capable of circulating. Reducing THP and using the same impeller places additional operational stress on the motor, shortening its life span. which would be the impeller for this motor?

Hello Matias. The pump impeller is specific to the Manufacture/Model of the pump and not the motor. Please provide pump Manufacturer/Model information and a recommendation can be made. This information is generally located on the pump housing. If this information is no longer visible or can't be found, please provide several photos of the entire pump inclusive of the intake and discharge plumbing to assist in identification.
